370Z With Stock G37 Coupe Muffler Swap

I just swapped my stock 370Z muffler with a G37 coupe muffler. The G37 muffler has the same dimensions as the 370Z muffler except for the longer tips. That means you can just bolt the muffler on without modifying anything else. The tips are about 2 inches longer on the G37, so it will be sticking out of the 370 bumper. It actually looks pretty good with the tips sticking out.

By changing the muffler, I finally got the famous VQ sound. I love that hollow, throaty, Chewbacca tone of the 350Z, G35, and G37. It's a shame that the stock 370Z muffler didn't retain that sound due to noise ordinances. Currently I'm running a non-resonated midpipe. Once I find a stock resonated midpipe, I will put a video up.

I recommend this muffler swap for anyone who wants a better sounding exhaust for cheap (~$200 installed). You have to buy the coupe version, and if its from a 2008 model make sure it had the rattle issue resolved (it was a TSB). There will be no horsepower gain with this setup. In fact, you will probably lose 2 horsepowers based on the G37 being rated as 330 hp. But it's worth it to me cuz I LOVE that old VQ sound.

I'll attach the pics for now, but my non-resonated midpipe doesn't allow you to capture the clean tone of the G37 muffler very well on video. I'll post the non-resonated version a little later just so people can compare it when I eventually get the non-resonated midpipe.

Anyone near me want to donate their stock midpipe, so that I can get this done sooner?:icon17:

Ok here's some videos that don't do it justice. Remember this is non-resonated, so it's hard to hear on video the clean G37 sound. But I can definitely hear the G37 tone live and inside the car. The non-resonated midpipe does make it sound meaner, but I prefer the clean tone.
I'll be at the 40th meet in Irvine this Saturday, so stop by if anyone wants to see/hear it. http://www.the370z.com/40th-annivers...h-members.html

I cheap way to change the exhaust tone of the Z, can't hear the vids in class but I'm on the fence about the way the tips stick out.

Welder quoted me about $100-150 to cut and reweld the tips so that they don't stick out. So, it is an option to have it flushed if you don't mind paying for it. I'm fine with the look for now, but in the future I might make them Hellaflush.

for that price I can live with it, it doesn't look all that bad, next up change the suffocating mid piping
