WTF is this???

Ok, i've had a few opinions as to what is flying out of my exhaust in handfuls, but i just want 100% confirmation. I have the Stillen SC, HFC, and CBE. The below is a pic of a couple of pieces of the metallic like chunks that are spewing from my exhaust pipes. I've been told it is coming from my HFC...is this true? If so, if after replacing my HFC, will the pieces that are still sitting in my muffler damage it in any way?

You just lost the hfc's!!

time to replace them before they clog up the mufflers. :(

muffler damage depends how much has been blown out.

but yeah, if it is... def need to change em' cats! Meow!

Test pipes FTW. Seem to be seeing more of this coming from HFC's.

Osiris 07-30-2011 10:04 PM

argh, that's what i thought. Time to replace them i guess...anything but Stillen. :shakes head:

Stillen isn't the only one.

damn man, sorry to hear. If it were me, I'd just opt for test pipes so as not to have a worry anymore. If you want to stick w/HFC's there's berk and F.I. etc that would be a good alternative the stillen's.

Of course, if you do decide on TP's, you may need to tqueak your tune again...

For forced induction applications, it is very important to use a catalytic converter with a metallic core instead of a ceramic core as a metal core withstands much more abuse and will not fragment upon failure.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see a HFC offered for the Z that has a metallic core, all of them are ceramic and will blow out with the higher EGTs of FI.

Ouch.............

well, these pieces that are coming out are metallic...doesn't that mean it's a metallic core?

Also, i have a friend that has a pair of test pipes that he isn't currently using. So since i have FI, will it be a problem if i don't get it tuned right away?

Almost every hfc offered for the z has a metallic core ..

Save your money and get the art pipes. Test pipes with a supercharger is going to sound like $hit ..

i have to put something on there...can't leave these HFC's on there to clog things up. If anything, the test pipes will be temporary.

um, just realized, the "ART" pipes ARE test pipes. So your statement contradicts itself.

the motordyne Art pipes are test pipes with a hemholz (sp?) resonator so they don't give that raspy, sh!tty sound that a "regular" test pipe does. Apparently, they're even better than your normal resonated TPs as well. Seem to also pick up a couple hp over all the other TPs to boot.

No way of knowing if it's safe or not to drive around w/o an updated tune to account for the TPs w/o knowing a/f ratios, but if it were me (and I'd throw your bud's tp's on asap just to get those sh!tty HFCs outta there), I'd just keep it under 4K rpms and no heavy throttle until I could get the car on the dyno and retuned. If you got tuned originally at HP logic, I believe they offer a significant discount when you come back for retunes, so hopefully you won't be out of pocket too much more $$.

^My vote.

Your buddy in the white Z was interested in the test pipe as well. When you're done with them, just sell them to him haha

OR

I believe Motordyne has some ART pipes in stock from the same batch that they shipped mine. They sell very quickly.
