But doesn't perform as well as the aftermarket units either, or weigh as little. Everything's a tradeoff.

Exactly, a trade off. Some are willing to make it, some aren't.

has anyone tried a tp/y-pipe/single 3" exhaust?

I wanna hear it, any clips?

I dont have a clip, but i did it... It was LOUD, and raspy as hell... Not a clean sound. I got rid of it in about 4 weeks.

I have owned in order fastintentions , hks, magnaflow, invidia Gemini , ark and now have another fastintentions . The only one that did not have rasp , hiss and drone was the 800.00 invidia. Even with my art pipes it did not have any of these issue. I just did not like the way it sounds. Not aggressive enough for me. All the others had one of those issue. So (Tony) let your magic happen and I will buy.. I'm sure others on here will also. No pressure right????????

OK. Will do.

Similar in design like the shockwave for the 350Z?

For no hiss it would have to be true dual all the way back, ive been thinking about maybe going custom exhaust to get a nice deep aggressive non hiss exhaust

I was looking around for a good explanation of X/H-crossovers on the net, and this little paragraph from a jegs.com catalog page is a pretty decent summary:

Quote:

X-pipe and H-pipes synchronize the balance of the exhaust pulses from each bank of cylinders based on firing order which increases velocity and scavenging from each cylinder. Most people agree that X-pipes are better at improving performance than H-pipes, especially at the top end. However, H-pipes tend to have a deeper sound than x-pipe equipped vehicles and generally build power down low. These are general claims and your engine and exhaust combination could have different results.
Who knows what Motordyne will end up doing. Based on their past products, they're clearly pretty creative at airflow and resonance engineering stuff. But I wouldn't expect an isolated dual system to be the best for our cars, in terms of sound or performance.

So what can I expect with the ARK and ART Pipes? Rattle? Hiss?

you can get rid of the drone and his by going with adding too resonators to the aftermarket why pipe. Helps TONS. i have high flow cats. and full 2.8 inch exhauste from Amuse and NO HISS or DRONE> with an aggressive tune.

you did what with the y-pipe? i've got the same setup and i hiss still. no drone though.

Exhaust parts always have unique interactions with the other parts you connect to it. They affect each others sound in ways you cant fully predict without actually trying it, but you could try this as a way to help mitigate hiss or rasp.

I added two 12" Resonators to the Y-pipe. almost sounds stock with a deeper drone. and still make over 300 HP on Mustang Dyno.

Exhaust threads really make me laugh. 45% want no "drone". 45% want no "rasp". the other 10% are quite happy.
