What exactly are these plastic objects on both sides of the intake? Also can you remove them and just run a rubber line straight from the intake to the crank

What exactly are these plastic objects on both sides of the intake? Also can you remove them and just run a rubber line straight from the intake to the crank case?
Also from what I've seen in the past from my 350 this shouldn't be where you normally run a catch can right? That a catch can would have to be installed inline from the line that go from the crankcase to the plenum, correct? The lines I'm referring to for the catch can are in the same pics below, but are the lines in the lower part of the pics, correct? Which is on both sides. On the passenger side its the line under the plastic U shaped piece. I had a catch can on my 350 and that's how it was ran. But being our cars have dual intake on both sides I need to sort all this out. Driver Side ![]() Passenger Side ![]()
