Price for long tube header install?

Hey guys im planning on ordering the long tube headers from fast intentions but i need an idea of a reasonable price for installation. Titan motorsports quoted me $800 to $1000 which i think is too much. Thanks

doublea2527 02-28-2011 10:23 AM

Yeah I would say that is too much. It all depends on the hourly rate they are charging you. And I wouldnt see it taking more then 3 hours. I'm getting my exhaust installed at $97/hour. I would shop around.

Then you must have no idea what it takes to install LTH's. $800 ish sounds about right, let alone having to remove the steering shaft linkage its very tight and is a real pain to do. Just go with Test Pipes.

It is not totally unreasonable. Look, I invented them and have more experience installing them than anyone else. I charge 6.5-8 hours to install them. My shop labor rate is $80 per hour. You have no control over any other shops labor rate but just make sure they are not charging you for 10 hours or something like that.

What I can tell you is that Marty and the guys over at Titan do good work.

As we get closer to summer and good weather, my lead times grow. As of today I am 5-8 weeks out on building and shipping headers. With that being said, if you want them do not wait too long.

I will await your response...

Thank you, Tony

Sounds right to me. Headers are a PITA. I done some on my 350 (not long tube) and never again wiil I do this. I was ready to cut my head off. Plus the gains were very small. But long tubes are alot better. I did love the sound though.

NYBladeZ 02-28-2011 11:26 AM

The gains are pretty good with the LTH's but as mentioned above, installation is a biotch. It is going to run you at a minimum $600 and this is not a part you want just any joe schmo to install. Why the procedure is straightforward a meticulous installer will save you future headaches.

Shenouda 02-28-2011 12:02 PM

thanks guys...i called central florida turbo and they said they can do it for $500. I dont know how good of a shop they are though. Anybody heard of them or know if they do good work.

SPOHN 02-28-2011 12:05 PM

Good deal for you. They might not know what there in for though. But headers are straight forward job, just a tight area to work in.

NYBladeZ 02-28-2011 12:17 PM

The one thing that screwed me over was that the thread on my 02 sensors was screwed up so and they needed to be replaced. Other then that you should be ok, $500 sounds good.

As long as you have a lift you do not have to remove the steering shaft you can work around it and get the headers in.

That price of $800 is up there a little bit I would say $500-$600 tops for the job.

Have you had them done??? From what I have heard and seen you need to take off the steering linkage. And if you dont put it back on the same exact way the TCS gets all screwed up or some crap.

Just have to mark it before removal. Then reinstall and line up the marks.

Vegitto-kun 02-28-2011 03:31 PM

I paid about 300-350 bucks for the install.

it took tom about 10-11 hours because of problems with the demon bolt and a sensor not wanting to come out.

you have to take the steering shaft out whether the car is on the lift or on the ground.

I havent had them done on my car but I helped my partner install the FI long tubes on another forum members car who is a friend of mines.I had headers on my 350z as well I removed the AC compressor to get them in on that car instead of messing with the steering linkage where also about to put the Stillen headers on my friends G37 once I am done with my supercharger install.

I worked around it on my 350. Only time I removed it was when I installed my turbo kit.

Thanks I am glad somebodyb agrees with me on this.

NewYorkJon34 02-28-2011 05:29 PM

I was quoted no more than $500, but I'm curious how long it's going to take to install?

It taks 4-6 to do the job

NYBladeZ 02-28-2011 05:44 PM

you don't need to take off the steering linkage, its just a really cramped install, your shop will charge you $500 due to the pain in the *** factor.

NewYorkJon34 02-28-2011 05:46 PM

Oh, that's not too bad. I'm wondering if only the people installing these themselves are the ones having the trouble.

VaGntlmn 02-28-2011 06:02 PM

I was going to get Stillen Ceramic coated headers installed (not even the LTH), but the shop told me $650 to install them, AND there's a possibility that the O2 sensors could be damaged when they are removed and that they are $425 by themselves!!!
I'm rethinking this mod.

NYBladeZ 02-28-2011 06:05 PM

Sensors are expensive because the Z34 has 4 of them. 2 read afr and 2 for emissions. They go for $135ish on courtesy parts nissan.

NewYorkJon34 02-28-2011 06:48 PM

Jnaut, I'm not sure which version of the F.I exhaust you have but how does the header/exhaust combo sound?

tranceformer 02-28-2011 06:54 PM

^it's LOUD. It sounds awesome when on the gas pedal is pushed to the floor but its definitely LOUD. :icon17:

Take it from me, I've been in and around that car plenty.

but tom took them off for the police checkup I had to do and put them back on for free.

They are going off forever during the amuse kit install.

I have the CF too. if you are combining with LTH it will still be loud though less than me.

I do notice a power increase. Me and Tom both find that the car revs faster and smoother now.

but it still needs to be tuned so yeah.
