TOP SPEED CBE - Review

UPDATE #1 Silencer out pics and idle vid post 36
As usual look out for drive by videos
Dyno data etc.
Will update as new material arises, trying to get in for the dyno this week- Dam booked solid, next week I hope.

Mods right now.
K&N drop ins
Ebay Y pipe
TS CBE

My entire set up cost $<600 bucks

Got this for a good price, fast shipping, Ebay special from this guy. ( Again, no benefit to me, this is purely for information purposes)
Nissan 370Z 09-10 Top Speed Catback Exhaust System - eBay (item 370480189219 end time Mar-01-11 14:49:29 PST)

Ordered last Friday, got it today via UPS, the guy is in Texas as am I, but none the less shipped same day as I bought so Kudos there, also very easy to deal with, nice guy.

Packaged very nicely, all intact.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...Z/IMG_7749.jpg

Very secure.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...Z/IMG_7750.jpg

As expected, pretty nice, decent quality. All parts here, one small niggle, not massive but this is a fair review, 1 of the silencer bolts was missing, I have spares..;)
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...Z/IMG_7752.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...Z/IMG_7751.jpg

Weighed the individual componants prior to install.

Stock mid pipe 16.72 lbs
Stock muffler 26.62 lbs

TS Mid 9.9 lbs
TS muffler 18.7 lbs

Total weight saving of 14.74, not to shabby for a CBE section.

Install went really easy, everything fit etc, supplied bolts are good enough but I swapped them out for some of my own which are about 10mm longer as I like to get a good bit of nut on:icon17: Hand tools - 45mins top.

I have centered the mufflers today but am going to do the final allignment in a couple of days when all hangers have re settled and its found its 'hang spot'.
I have choosen to run initially with the silencers in place.

Heres the start up / idle / rev up in garage.

I gave it a spin around the block and was quite impressed, a real nice sound with ZERO hiss at all.

Wife took the car out shopping, txt me and said it sounds so good, I cant believe I just put the window down to hear it...lol great stuff.

All in all I am very happy, sound delicious

Updates posted as they come.
Cheers

younter 02-15-2011 08:21 PM

Doesn't sound crazy loud at all.. sound good..are these stainless steel?

Kastley85891 02-15-2011 08:23 PM

Ya SS, I do have the silencers in, not really sure how much difference with em out, I will remove later on and see.

younter 02-15-2011 08:30 PM

:iagree: Thanks for the review..

cotizi 02-15-2011 09:14 PM

any idea of stock y-pipe weight vs e-bay? i didn't get a chance to weigh mine. ALSO for everyone's use: don't use cardboard to "temporarily" keep the exhaust from rattling against the x-brace. it will combust. yeah....

Thanks for the review Kast. I got real close to getting this CBE with the resonator, but I chicken out. Let us know how the final alignment goes. Still have not mounted the Y pipe yet. I'm waiting for a Tanabe CBE to show up at the door.

ThoriumHotdog 02-15-2011 09:42 PM

Looks pretty good and sounds smooth with the silencers. Definitely in for dyno/video/audio without the silencers. :)

Kastley85891 02-15-2011 09:48 PM

Thx guys, I am happy enough, Wife is happy so makes me double please ;-)

As for the Y pipe weight, I posted up in my Y piep thread to get some one to weigh the next new one prior to install.

Think the biggest weight saving from headers back is obviously gonna be TP's in place of stock cats, but interested to see this full CBE against a stocker.

COTIZI - Ill keep an eye on the possible rattle, I will space out the mid hanger with some washers if it crops up , nice on the flames... lol

younter 02-15-2011 10:01 PM

I saw there is a test pipe for that...
Nissan 370Z Z34 G37 VQ37 08-10 Exhaust Test Pipe Pipes on eBay.ca (item 230526393014 end time 13-Mar-11 21:49:37 EDT)

The price is decent..have no idea about the sound and stuff..

also, has anyone seen this exhaust?

looks like it...:happydance:

TongMan 02-16-2011 02:23 AM

It doesn't come with a replacement y-pipe, so it's not a full catback. It's just the midpipe and mufflers.

younter 02-16-2011 02:31 AM

yes..but you can get tanabe Y pipe

G37sHKS 02-16-2011 07:09 AM

Hello brother,

gratz on you new catback.

atl370z 02-16-2011 07:50 AM

I am currently running the same exact setup as yours(k&n drop ins, ebay y pipe and top speed CBE) and I am putting down 296whp & 247tq vs 279whp & 236 stock on dyno jet. Good luck on the dynos man! :tiphat:

Yep bargain set up, I am going to get >300 WHP on this thing for as little out lay as possible, my baseline was nearly identical to yours so interesting.

Did your silencers make much difference?

I got my TS from a fellow member here and it didn't come with silencers.
Honostly, the sound without the silencers is awesome.
Btw, another bargain set up is the HPS tubes($110)! It'll help you get it over the 300whp mark!

RockStarKick 02-16-2011 12:12 PM

Wow look at how much shipping.. Is.. Total will be around 900.. Just spend the extra and get something name brand..

Yes,

Let us know what you put down if you add HFC's or TP's. Also, is that SAE or STD correction?

Hm, good question! I dynoed at Z1 motorsports, I am not sure if their's SAE or STD correction though.

Kastley85891 02-16-2011 02:53 PM

My total exhuast setup cost 540 to my door - hard to beat I feel, especially if the numbers back it up, we will see. If I can do close to 300 WHP on my usual dyno it will be awesome value for money, **** I only paid 60 bucks for my drop ins...

Jordo! 02-16-2011 03:21 PM

I'm just really curious to see how the order that different mods are added affects the gain they offer.

Seems like everything offers diminishing returns when added second, third, etc as compared to the gain for the same mod when added first. Must be the limits of optimal VE start to get acheived at that point.

Be interesting to see if VVEL tuning makes a difference with that -- it definitely should, and I think it's the main reason whey Nismos always put down a little more than a similarly modded regular Z, even with a tune.

Kastley85891 02-16-2011 03:23 PM

I agree dude, seems to always get to the sameish power levels but in random order of mod.
Thats why I do all the chopping and changing, I am reluctant to drop big bucks for little gain, when I can I will go FI and be done with it. Until that day , this keeps me playing.

TongMan 02-16-2011 04:44 PM

So $540 for the TS mid+muffler. How much for the y-pipe? Total?

xgrudgex 02-16-2011 04:59 PM

Any chance on getting a vid without silencers?

fairladyZ34 02-16-2011 06:59 PM

Id ditch the silencers, gives the tips a weird look

Machine 02-16-2011 07:03 PM

Any cabin drone with this setup?

Not a TP Y, its identical to the Y in my 'cheap Y thread' I paid 80 shipped for my Y and 460 Shipped for my mid and muffler, 60 for my drop ins, now thats bargain motoring right there.
