Exhaust Exhaust Exhaust - Which one?

Hi All,

I'm from Sydney, Australia and I recently purchased a 370Z Roadster and to be honest....the exhaust note is not very good. For a car of it's power and status (sports car) it definently needs to be a little louder!

I am looking for an Exhaust which delivers decent performance gains (doesn't have to be the biggest gains) but does not have an annoying drone - I basically want to give it a factory performance exhaust note under acceleration. Whilst cruising I dont want it to annoy the **** out of me however I do want it to sound a little sportier so I am open for it to be a little louder on crusing at normal speeds as well but not mind blowing as I do drive a roadster with a soft top roof.

The setups I am looking at are: (please feel free to tell me to check out other systems too!)

Stillen CBE - no HCF (I heard that with HCF it drones + way too loud)
Nismo CBE - with Berk HCF (Listening to the video clips it sounds great but not sure about droning when crusiing?)

Does the droning exist with the Nismo + Berk HCF or Stillen with no HCF setup?

Any feedback or advise would be greatly appreciated. If anyone can also provide me with a few links of where to buy these in the US or Australia that would be great as well as I want to do something in the next few days! Happy to ship from US to AU if needed.

I have the Berk CBE with the Berk HFC's. I have zero drone at highway speeds.
From what I've heard from others, the Nismo exhaust is even quieter then the Berk.

You could also try adding just the HFC's and see if that gives you the sound that you are looking for. I had just the HFC'S to start with as I was waiting for my CBE to arrive and It made a nice difference in the sound.

Take a look at this thread if youd like. The mods should be listed. My Z is the black with Fast Intentions and HFCs. The other has a Stillen exhaust with no HFC's.

You have a nice setup! I think the Stillen without HCF might be the go for me, otherwise it will be too loud... Keep the feedback coming guys.

F.I. (Fast Intentions) ftw. Read their threads, no one has as many satisfied customers.

Plus, F.I. Gives you the only option in full length headers.

wheee! 01-06-2011 04:25 PM

Fast Intentions is very nice, but he wants a more 'tame' version of exhaust. Hence the HKS HI-Power with the resonation chambers to kill drone....

kielbasa16 01-06-2011 04:30 PM

Im very happy with Fast Intentions as are many other customers, however given your preferences I think I would recommend Stillen. I was quite impressed with how it sounds and as others have said it even looks almost stock (just make sure your tips align nicely). It also has proven gains among the top exhausts.

Drone is subjective...

I have the LTH's and 18" Res and I have no 'drone'?? At least, not that I notice at least?

If he wanted a tame exhaust, and if he liked the looks of F.I.'s then all he could do is just the F.I. CBE with 18" Res and SS cans and he'd have a good balance of performance increase, with the tame tone.

It's once you increase the flows in the Cats/headers... thats where the volume starts to increase.

But the HKS does look very good. I wish they had a version that didn't have the blue'd tips... Then they'd have my attention. :icon08:

I don't disagree with you on the FI in regards to performance, but it is definitely more aggressive side by side comparison with the HKS. I know what you mean about the blue tips too... it was the only part holding me back at first. I have gotten used to them I suppose!

I'd recommend the Stillen CBE + Berk HFC.
Very nice gains, looks somewhat stock other than the 4.5'' tips and a very pleasant sound that makes you smile.

Also HKS-HI Power is lowered car friendly...

gkmaniac 01-06-2011 06:52 PM

Does the Stillen without HFC have any drone? I'm also looking in to HKS but the blue tips are kind of putting me off a little...

GoGo370z 01-06-2011 07:54 PM

ARK has the polished version which I have. GT haus and HKS are all 1800+ exhaust compared to other brands which are at a more reasonable range.

I have my ARK lowered on KW V3's. No scrapes yet in the mean street of LA

I have no shame recommending our system. We have sold over 260 systems in just over 18 months! I can deliver a system to you that will take your stock exhaust note and make it deeper, smoother and fuller. We are able to achieve this without (re-defining) the way your car sounds! I have a small number of customers with roadsters and have received zero complaints of drone.

My recommendation is as follows:

1) Leave the stock cats on the car.
2) Go with our 18" resonated x pipe and stainless steel mufflers.

I feel in the end you will be able to achieve what you are going for. You will also maximize your performance with our system. I have sold close to (25) 370Z systems to customers all over Australia. I am sure there has to be someone close to you for a test in person.

Here is a direct link to our exhaust page: http://www.fastintentions.com/produc...products_id=14

If you have any questions regarding our exhaust products please feel free to ask...

Thank you, Tony

Tony is right, his system is very nice and might be less expensive than the HKS. Two of my friends have the F.I. systems on their Z's and they love them. Both of them, however, have bottomed them out on the roads here in Alberta and have scratches and dents. It does sit lower on the car than the HKS. As for looks and sound though, they are killer! Not a LOT more aggressive than the HKS, but different. And I like the tips on the F.I. WAY better!

Having said that, my system with the BERK HFC's and the HKS is very efficient and I have free'd up a tonne of horsepower. I will have to dyno it this year to find out how much more. With an HFC and the exhaust, I still think my sound is less aggressive under full throttle than the F.I., yet still has amazing tone and depth in normal driving. No rasp and no drone. Sorry Tony!, but the drone of the F.I. (with HFC's or test pipes) at highway speeds is too much for me to take. I have ridden in my friends Z and the difference is HUGE.

:bowrofl: same thing here in Germany :( I can't wait to get back to the lower 48!

It finally got warm enough here for me to take the Z out for a drive. I still have factory tires and Germany has laws that require M+S tires when there is ice or snow out.

I know... I was there in December 08 for the big snow! Still had fun on the autobahn!

Did you miss the Christmas eve snow?? It is in the 50s now! It has all melted off. I don't know where it came from but I bet it wont last long :shakes head:

I was home this year for Christmas but I had friends stuck in Frankfurt an extra night trying to get home. They didn't fly Lufthansa so they were able to get a flight on Air Canada easier.
