I think bad microphone has a lot to do with the rasp but then again why use bad microphone when you're uploading an exhaust video. Anyone heard this setup in person? I will let our sponsors fill you guys in more about release dates, prices etc.

Skorch 03-16-2009 01:14 AM

Meh, mic can't account for rasp that bad. I don't like the sound of it...

LiquidZ 03-16-2009 01:00 PM

I don't think it sounds that bad. It is in development, so I feel that they will improve the sound a bit.

Good point, and we need to let Borla finish before lambasting them again—or not ;). I'd like to see their parts and layout of their system. At it stands, Stillen currently has them beat, but it's great to see the SoCal shops jump into the fray.

If you look at the G37 forums you can see that the Borla exhaust is one of the preferred exhaust now out of all of them if DB is no concern then a modified nismo from the 07-08 350z is second. Just some FYI so I think it will come along well.

welderz 03-16-2009 03:44 PM

One of the employees from borla started a thread on my350z and asked for our opinions on what we wanted. I can't link it here but it's in the 370z subforum and it's titled 370z@borlaperformance.

Alvin from Borla Performance in California. We've made terrific progress on our 370Z cat-back exhaust and although the audio/video is not perfect, we wanted to keep the 370Z community updated. We think our exhaust sounds great! We'll have this product announcement on our website next month.
Thanks for the comments and this thread. Any current/future owner comments are appreciated.

Will Borla will be adding the flex pipe, like the factory and many of the Japanese aftermarket vendors, to help prevent harmonic resonance? Thanks.

Additionally, flex couplers help isolate engine vibration to reduce stress that can lead to exhaust component damage in welds, hangars, etc. While we've specified flex couplers in many of our products, Borla R&D has engineered this 370Z cat-back exhaust without the need or added weight of flex couplers. Thanks for your interest.

Any idea what the length of the tips will be? From the video it looks like they are angled which I like will that stay? I havent seen the borla for g37 maybe have to look it up, but do you have any numbers that came from that car?

For comparison sake. I think it relates

m4a1mustang 03-17-2009 06:03 AM

Borla has always been a little raspy, even with the Mustangs.

I was a Magnaflow guy with my Mustang.... very smooth and pure. I'll be interested to hear what they come out with.

stinhambo 03-17-2009 06:43 AM

I prefer the Borla methinks.

LiquidZ 03-17-2009 12:06 PM

I have Borla Stingers on my Mustang... awesome!

Does that mean you're going to get us a better sound clip? :icon17:

JoeyD 03-19-2009 05:09 PM

I had Borla on my 350 and I think it sounded great. I also remember hearing that one of the earlier Nismo systems was a Borla design.

Yeah? and how's the famous Borla drone at cruising speed that makes you want to puke after 20 miles?

GaryTheSnail 04-18-2009 05:44 PM

Any new information on the Borla system for the 370z? I've been waiting to upgrade the exhaust system until Borla came out with their system, but I've my local performance shop hasn't heard anything about it yet. They told me I should think about going with Stillen so that they can install the headers and cat-back in one shot.

I don't have any info or update on this but I'll look around.

This is a bit off topic, but I thought I should ask. Were you driving your Z in South Jersey today? Today around 1 pm , I just randomly looked outside my window to see my Z that's parked outside on the street. I saw this White 370Z driving by and stops right next to my Z. He steps out, checks out my car, then step inside his car and drive away. Was it you? Just curious... if it wasn't you, please disregard this paragraph..

Thanks Joey! We received such positive feedback over the years for our 350z dual exhaust (relative to sound enhancements) that we approached the 370z in a similar manner.

Tuning an exhaust for sound is a real challenge because it's so subjective. One man's "drone" is another man's "symphony".

There's only one reason we were able to build something that was so widely well received and that's because we reached out to the Z community during the development process.

I just want to thank you guys for all the feedback, good and bad.

Cheers

Ditto.. I had the Borla on my 350 and it had a great sound to it both pre and post turbo...so I look forward to seeing hearing your new product!

Thought I link this tread over to the370z.com site from my350z.com 370Z@Borla Performance - MY350Z.COM Forums. I really would like to see Borla come out with their system already and if they went with a X-pipe, H-pipe, or Y-pipe design.

370z4Steve 05-11-2009 04:43 PM

Anymore news about this?

Mr_Z 06-03-2009 10:57 AM

Alvin and David from Borla, and other members,

I just bought my 370Z.

I own a 350Z with Borla Catback exhaust system. It’s the best investment I have ever made on this car. Besids HP gain, the sound is deep and it “sings” all the way up. It’s quiet on the highway unless I push the car a little. It’s simply the best sounding car I have ever heard and beats any Porsche or Ferrari sound from far in my opinion. Most important, it doesn’t sound crappy like most of the after market exhaust systems. It sounds “sophisticated”, like a high end V8 and makes a lot of curious people turn their heads when I drive buy.

I am such a Borla fan that I am really impatient for it to be available. If I refer to the 350Z Borla system, I’ve been looking at the “Borla Development video” for the 370Z and I don’t think that the recorded sound does it justice…

One important thing about the Borla exhaust, the tip are inclined just like the original, giving a better “fit” overall. The tips are realy nice.

ALVINT, DAVID! PLEASE GIVE US SOME INFO ABOUT WHEN THE BORLA CAT BACK WILL HIT THE MARKET!

Thanks

Borla's reply

Hello,
I contacted Borla on May 10th and here is what they said:

"Thank you for your interest in Borla products. We are looking around 30days before the system will be released. Please check back with us around Mid July."

Can't wait!

Phimosis 06-10-2009 06:44 PM

They were saying late April, then it became early may. I talked to the engineers at Borla on may 8 and they told me it would be released the week of may 11. After a few more weeks I bought the Stillen system because the Borla still wasn't available. Now that I'm hearing July, it makes me happy because I don't have any buyers remorse.

CBRich 06-10-2009 08:08 PM

This just out: Now it's mid-August.

Kidding. But this is getting a bit old.

import111 06-10-2009 08:47 PM

I doubt I will be waiting until the Borla is released. Taking too long and I am in a hurry to put an exhaust on my Z.

LiquidZ 06-15-2009 10:10 PM

Cut them some slack guys. At least they aren't rushing it and selling us crap.

need4speed 06-16-2009 12:22 PM

Producing good sound is great. But my question is. Will this Borla exhaust be able
To match or exceed the amount of power added by the stillen exhaust. 18+ hp on stillen.
And its power most say they can feel.

The only way we will know that, is if we dyno'd the Borla unit on the same dyno, on the same day, during the same weather conditions.

need4speed 06-17-2009 07:12 AM

I wish u guys at Borla all the success with the exhaust. Cuz its never good for the consumer to have
one dominant brand.

Be wary of manufacturer claims. I have the Stillen G3 intake, headers, hi flow cats and exhaust. Together they gave me a 26hp gain.

Search this site and you will likely find a thread that has someone's dyno before and after with just ths Stillen exhaust.

As an aside, when Stillen says things like "no one has higher hp gains from their exhaust" That just means that on Stillen's dyno there was an 18 hp difference before and after. If they run it on a different day, or different part of the day when temperature is cooler or if they heat soak the car on the "before" run, it will exaggerate the difference. Every manufacturer has a vested interest in exaggerating the results. Most people only gain 5 hp or so from aftermarket exhausts, but they are testing in an unbiased manner...

need4speed 06-18-2009 12:26 AM

Wow... that's a big investment for 26hp. Stillen claims all those parts to average
An increase of 60 hp with all those add ons. But is your 26hp. WHP?
Have u clocked ur ride with the add ons? How u do in the quarter?

Phimosis 06-18-2009 12:35 AM

I haven't tracked it. Here is more info on the mods: http://www.the370z.com/tuning/4594-induction-parts-ecu-reflash-dyno-results.html Stillen parts + ECU reflash
