Sounds real good Semtex. I can't wait to install my BERK HFC's. I didn't have time this weekend. To much yard work to start on. It's just that time of year. But I did install Jim Wolf Popchargers since that only took about an hour. Those with HFC's and my Nismo exhaust. Should sound good and clean. Maybe next weekend.

Although, this will pass emission, here in California, you'll fail visual inspection. :shakes head:
Semtex... your Z sounds amazing! Are you considering in dyno tuning it? |

I don't think he's talking about the police pulling you over for aftermarket parts. He's talking about getting the car inspected....they'll go over the car visually to make sure all the parts are oem.
I had an inspector hassle me over my high-flow cats on the truck. In the end though he passed me, because he said he couldn't prove anything. |
Hmm...interesting. I guess they really are brutal out in CA huh? In GA they just hook up a cable to your OBDII plug and check for any recent CELs. As long as you don't have any, you're good to go! They don't look under the car or anything.
|
Thank you GA! hey Semtex you were supposed to call me lol I had the camera sitting in the car the past few days! Ohhh I am also going over to Forged this weekend to meet up with sharif :D we are going to test fit volks in a bunch of different offsets as well as get a baseline dyno :D You can tag along if you would like hehe ;)

that and living CA is turning out to be a problem with the mods i want to do to my 370z. |
Extended Drive Video
I took another video from the inside. I used a different camera this time -- one that doesn't have that annoying high-pitched hum. This one's a longer one; I just kept it rolling from the time I left my driveway to when I return.

Honestly, there were a few times when it sounded like a V-8. Sounds good bro..
|
OK, I like the Stillen now. Sounds GREAT!
Thanks very much for taking the time to upload. I would give you more rep but it wont let me. |
Can someone tell me if I'm hearing drone in this latest video, or is it just because the camera is in the back near the exhaust? Sounds awesome during acceleration!
|
not bad at all..get a dyno of thecar now :)

Hey, Semtex. Thanks for the great write up. Ordered the exhaust and cats yesterday. Can't wait to get them on.

Cool. I think you'll be pleased with the results.

Semtex, is the sound getting louder with age???

Boy that's a a tease if I have ever read one.....:ugh2: |
Mike (bullitt5897) and I met up with Sharif over at Forged Performance yesterday and did some dyno runs on his Dyno Dynamics dyno. For those of you unfamiliar with Dyno Dynamics, it is often referred to as the 'heartbreaker' dyno, because its numbers come in lower then even Mustang dynos! Anyway, Mike's 370Z is still bone stock, whereas I've already put the Stillen exhaust and Berk HFCs on mine, as you all know. Other than that, our cars are identical -- Touring w/Sport Pkg., 6MT transmissions. Mike's bone stock Z pulled 254 WHP, and mine came in at 291.7 WHP! Now, I never did a baseline dyno when my car was still bone stock, so you have to take this comparison with a grain of salt. But even if you allow for a decent margin of error, I think this shows some pretty decent gain with the Stillen/Berk combo.
Mike and I have the paper dyno printouts, but we're waiting on Sharif to email soft copies to Mike. We'll post them as soon as they're ready. I also have some pics and vids that I'll post. In the meantime, I did a little research on Dyno Dynamics and found a little set of factoids, which some of you may find interesting: Interesting Dyno Factoids (Dyno Dynamics, Mustang, Dynojet) - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com) \\Interesting Dyno Factoids (Dyno Dynamics, Mustang, Dynojet) I got these from the shop that is about to dyno my M Coupe. It is consistent with what I have been told elsewhere but certainly an interesting read: 20) My car makes 300 hp but your dyno says it makes 215. What is up? Our dyno is the most accurate measurement of torque at the wheels. More accurate than most. No "interpolation" or "estimation" or "inertia factors" are applied like they are on other competitors' lesser machines. What this means is that this is the actual torque being applied at the tire. Typically, a 300hp all wheel drive car will measure in around 210-215 on our dyno. This is normal. 21) I went to a Mustang dyno and they said theirs reads low, but you say yours reads low. Is this just some trick used by tuners? The Dyno Dynamics is known throughout the industry as being the "heartbreaker" dyno - because it breaks the heart of every man that thinks he has 500 hp when he really has 350. The Dyno Dynamics reads lower than the Mustang. It reads WAY lower than a Dynojet. It reads WAY lower than a Dynapack (which actually reads too high on tip-in). The closest in numbers (at low HP) is the mustang, but using the above example, the same 300hp car was dyno'd back to back on a Dyno Dynamics 450 LowBoy (what we have) and a Mustang AWD500E (what some other guys have), and that 300hp rated car consistently read 223 on the Dyno Dynamics and 249 on the Mustang. One hour apart, exact same car, same town, same altitude, etc. 22) Why dont you just make your numbers look high to be the same as some others? Dyno correction is not a fixed amount. In other words, adding 30% at xx RPM and xx power does not translate. i.e. Using the above example, a car that makes 225 is about 1.3 to get 300. A 900hp car on this dyno is NOT making 1200hp ! Dyno numbers should be used for relative back to back comparison, and nothing else. 23) How do I compare my dyno results to others with similar setups? For Subaru owners, there are enough internet resources to compare, but essentially, Dyno Dynamics and Dynapack are the only 'consistent' numbers, and Dynapack reads very high, Dyno Dynamics very low. We can help you seek out other similar results. A great resource listing a slew of Dyno Dynamics HP baselines is available in the Gallery section at the KTR Performance Dyno Gallery Web Site. It should be noted that KTR uses atmospheric correction, which we do not use on our dyno plots. 24) How do I compare my pulls to Mustang Dyno, or a Dynojet, or a Dynapack? Every dyno is different. If you want dynojet or mustang-ish #s you have to multiply by 1.18 or so, 1.25+ for DynaPack. But remember, this is just ballpark, as it is not linear. |
never the less a 37.7 whp gain is impressive for hfcs and catback...i am real interested in seeing the cobb ap tune for us.

Wow nice job, sounds great

Wait what? 291hp ON A DD? Yeah, I think it's safe to say I'll have those by the end of next week haha.

you get a cable and a disc with osiris so you can do it from your laptop. COBB Tuning the HR - MY350Z.COM Forums i believe i will go with the osiris tuner, that will give me the flexibility i need like the diablo for the stang does... |
I had an AP for my Subaru and it was awesome. This time around, i think Osiris will do the trick.

Here's the dyno sheet, and I made a new video as well.

Sounds stupendous!

Semtex... amazing!! When I pick up my Z, I think I will do the Nismo exhaust with the Berks.
Your car sound so aggresive!!!! |
Semtex, are you going to get the headers? I am very curious to see if that will put you over 300. This kind of power from untuned mods is NUTS. Does it feel like there has been a big power increase? that kind of difference is more than noticeable with the butt dyno.
|
Well, I've got the Stillen G3 intakes scheduled to come in on Tuesday, so that'll be my next mod. I want to see what those do first. It'd be interesting if those put me over 300. And yes, I can feel a gain with the butt dyno. I didn't want to overstate it though, because you know how people can get when you talk about how you can 'feel' a gain (and rightly so).
