How can you LOSE with this mod?!

We have officially been downgraded from sports-car enthusiasts to ricers because of the actions of a few in this thread.

Okay so granted it's a pretty cheap and/or ricey mod, but nobody is going to DIE from this. The place they are putting the washers is like a foot from where the regular exhaust dumps out...ever heard of diffusion of gases? Thats why you can sit inches behind your car with it running and it will never kill you.

I can probably confirm this, seeing as my exhaust on my Camaro was fully dumped RIGHT below my drivers seat lol. I certainly didnt pass out...

Man...you guys are rough. What's so bad about what these guys are doing? A couple members here have done the muffler delete and nobody had anything bad to say about them. All these guys are doing is a partial muffler delete. We all know it's not a performance mod, but WHO CARES??? You guys should use the time that you're spending picking on these guys and use it to make fun of the dude that's running stetched tires and a -12 degree rear camber.

Oh my god...I was wondering how the hell this thread got to 5 pages and so finally i had to come in to check it out and WOW. I really hope no one gets air of this on other forums.

Now lets wait for a Japanese company to come out with titanium exhaust spacers and charge $1200 for them.

In all seriousness though, I've been wondering -- is this kind of thing really all that uncommon? Like if I were to go acquaint myself with the Mustang community, or the Camaro community, or even the STi or EVO communities, would I find that there are guys over there doing this as well? Or are we really now at risk of being laughing stocks if people on other cars' forums catch wind of this?

1) The leak is small.
2) It is worse to remove your cats/install LTH/ or do a full delete
3) Catalytic converters were made for a reason. Google it.

Why do you care so much about what other people think about what I have done to "disgrace" the 370z community?

Car sounds good.. are there any hp gains? (someone should dyno out of curiosity) maybe maybe not.. The facts are that I am happy. I didn't spend 1k+ for an exhaust system. I have no regrets. The end :)

I was actually trying to defend you by suggesting that there are probably people with other cars who have done the same thing, so there's no reason be concerned that what you've done will single out the 370z community for embarrassment. But then you went and admitted to everyone that you've disgraced the community, choosing instead to advance the argument that nobody should care because hey, you're happy, and as long as you're happy that's all that matters, right? Never mind that your happiness may come at the expense of the reputation of the rest of the community. Who cares? It's all about your personal happiness. I don't know you, so in all seriousness, I don't want to judge you because I actually get the impression from some of your posts that I might enjoy hanging out with you in person. You just seem like the kind of easy-going type of person that I enjoy hanging with. But I gotta tell you, just for the sake of your awareness, that your "I'm happy and that's all that matters" attitude really makes you come off sounding like a bit of a selfish douche. No, they don't do this. I was on a Subaru forum for a long time and I had a lot of evo friends, it would have been as bad there as it is here. Not that I genuinely care if people in other forums say or don't say, its just that this is something to be expected from the '98CivicVtecpowa.com or from a crew member of the infamous Icy Hot Stuntaz. Its the same as drilling holes in your muffler.

Sure there is. I mean, just look at the stereotype that gets applied to the Honda Civic tuner community, or the Camaro community for that matter. Like it or not, communities get judged, and they earn their reputations through the actions of their members. Now, as for whether or not we should actually care, I guess that's debatable. Personally, I'm inclined to say no, we shouldn't care. There will always be haters. Why lose sleep over it? But I could see an argument for the other side too. If the 370z community develops a reputation for street racing, just as a hypothetical example, then guess what happens? We all pay the price for that reputation by way of increased harassment from people wanting to race us when we're just trying to mind our own business, not to mention increased harassment from cops out to nail street racers. Again, that's just a hypothetical example. But I think it illustrates how a community's reputation can easily impact all its members, including those individuals who did nothing to contribute to that reputation.

I think you're blowing this way out of proportion. The dude is a poor teenager and put some washers between bolts on his exhaust. He didn't chop it off, he didn't drill holes in it, he put some washers between bolts. completely reversible in a matter of minutes. Yes all it does is make the car louder, but so does running open headers and this is much less labor intensive. It's not like he rusted his whole hood or is slammed to the ground on cut springs running 215's on stock rims with -10* camber.

Hey does anybody know if this "might" get any HP gains? Seeing as aftermarket exhaust usually free up the flow more.. I'm most likely wrong, but I was just wondering. :)

I did notice, however, when I shift from 1st to 2nd during aggressive acceleration with the VDC on.. the tire chirps. It didn't do that when it was stock. :o

That's just you changing your driving pattern, the tires could still be chirped from 1st to 2nd when stock.

I must say I'm amused. Gunzero, great way to find out how loud you want your exhaust to be. I will probably still buy an CBE, but for now I am enjoying the new exhaust note. In the end, the average car buff would not GAF about whether you spent 6 bucks or 1200. It sounds better than stock.
