lol at the 3rd pipe, cut outs wouldn't really work for an n/a Z, I gave it serious thought but the lack of backpressure killed the idea. I can't justify making all that much noise while LOSING power, brings forth the ricer mentality.

Just borrow a drill and a 3/4 inch drill bit.

Drill & Paint:

Not sure I understand the purpose of painting this. Wasn't the pipe black to begin with? So what's the point of spray painting black paint onto a black pipe? Does drilling that little glory hole change the color somehow?

whiddles 04-24-2010 10:10 PM

the paint is to prevent it from rusting. this is funny nogood. poor greg just tries to help the people that are not rich lol

I am really happy.. Doesn't matter if I got any gains or not. It sounds delicious.
I am saving up for more important things in life. So this $20.00 mod was well worth it.

The video starts around 8 seconds :D bad editing on my part!

ddvette9 04-25-2010 11:10 AM

Good god. Sounds just as good if not better than F.I., Berk, MXP, etc. Is that really just our stock exhaust with a small opening from a washer. Wholly smokes that sounds good. Thanks for the post

Gunzero 04-25-2010 11:18 AM

Yea when i fired it up I was like WTF!!!!!!! got a bigger grin than when i got the z xdddd

OH By the way! The hisss that the VQ is famous for is gone :o

NXTAZEE 04-25-2010 11:40 AM

Gunzero 04-25-2010 11:44 AM

Between what two exhaust parts are the washers installed?

Gunzero 04-25-2010 11:55 AM

You just put them in between to space out the exhaust causing it to have a gap about 3/4''-1'' :)

I can't say for sure it would lose power, but I'm sure you can tell from my earlier comment that I think it's a pretty good chance.

I had a look under the car and I believe the washers are installed at the connection where the two pipes meet the muffler.

Yep!

Csquared 04-26-2010 02:43 AM

i did this too to tide me over till I can mod my car cause like i said before there is a 6 month period in Hong Kong where you can't mod unless you want to be taxed. cost me 1 usd for this mod. And you're wrong gases still escape out the gap. hold a piece of glass over the joint and get your friend to rev you'll see the glass fogs up. I hope the shop gave you stainless washers.

Actually small amounts of gas still escape when you're on idle too.

WAIT why would you do this? Wouldn't that let hot air in when you're sitting in traffic and when you're moving fast prevent the ram air effect that was designed with this airbox? I'm not sure but I remember when i was on myg35.com they said that for the g35 they had this design because of the ram air effect when you're going 55mph or over. Thats why so many of the aftermarket intakes feels like that lost power compared to the stock ones.

Sorry thread jacked lol.

I think it was meant as a bit of a joke to poke fun.

nogoodname 04-26-2010 08:54 AM

I saved these pics when I saw them awhile ago....lol

Not my intakes or exhaust BTW....

Gunzero 04-26-2010 09:23 AM

Yes the gas still does escape out of the gap, but it doesn't bother me because some of the gas still goes through the muffler.
When you are cruising around the wind under the car will get rid of the exhaust gases so it won't be stationary under the car. When at idle the amount coming out through the gap is insignificant. I'm not worried about fumes or anything. :)

The Z is already a nice car stock. There are more important things in life you know.
Would you spend your money on mods or spend that money for your family.
