And you read me at the same point too and I dont have a tune and only had the CBE and K&Ns drop ins.

Wow I just learned a lot by reading up on this thread. I have a question then, since I will be running FI CBE w/test pipes and might do a K&N Drop in would I need a retune for that as well? I plan on most likely getting a tune anyway but I was just curious if this would also present a case to retune seeing im not actually switching the CAI.

Just dyno your car after you get all your mods in. As part of the dynoing process, they measure your AFR. (Not all places do it automatically, so you might have to ask for it.) If your AFR is in the acceptable range, then you're good to go. If it's out of whack, then you know you need a tune. There's no sense in guessing on whether or not you'll need a tune when you can actually go get your AFR measured and find out for sure. It's like trying to figure out if you need blood pressure medication without getting your BP reading checked first.

Good analogy about the blood pressure medication!

problem here is.

finding a company that does these things.

chiptuning is considered a illegal carmod so there are barely any companies that do them and god knows who is actually good

Im not sure if this means I am running lean but again when I did the K&N drop ins and the CBE my tail pipes went from having black junk on them(before the mods), to not having any black junk on them after the mods. But something changed. Im getting my Cobb today so I will do a AF reading before and after to see the changes and where Im at when at higher rpms then idle before I put the new map in. I think I went leaner than I was but thats not to say that Im too lean to hurt anything, Im sure the tune will get me some extra gains.

The maps that come with the Cobb from AA are really your best bang for the buck, for $100 you get a tune that is 90% perfect for your car. Other companies have been doing this for years, had it done on my turbo car. You can spend the big bucks for the dyno tune and probably only get an extra 5 hp out of it but you will have spent alot of money. So for you buying the Cobb and getting the tune that, no one will know that you have it and they cant say its illegal if they dont know you have it.

:iagree: VK, another option would be to get an e-tune from UpRev. You buy their software, install it onto your laptop, hook it up to your ECU via the OBDII port with the cable that they provide and take a data log. You send the log to them, they make adjustments based on that log and send you your tuned ROM file back to you, which you then upload back into your ECU via your laptop. Same principle with Cobb AP (except you use their standalone AP device rather than your own laptop). You are not SOL on this.

Wow I didn't know you could do that? Record my own data, send the logs and upload the tune MYSELF? I got so used to paying $600+ for my german cars for some goon to sit in my driver seat for 5 minutes to flash my ECU.

How much does this system from Uprev cost? Im assuming it's got to be in the $1k range?

no I dont think so, AA does it too and I think they told me like $350, you keep recording your info, send it to them, they adjust, send it back, you record info, send it in, etc... till its all right. I dont know what UpRev charges.

semtex 03-25-2010 02:34 PM

UpRev - Engine Management <-- Go to their website. You would want to get Osiris Standard ($500).

You have to buy the AP first though, don't you? And that itself is what? $500?
