Default Stillen Gen 3 intake causing P2096 & P2098?

1st tech post/question:
My new to me 2018 370Z came with the Stillen Gen 3 intakes, stock exhaust. On a long drive today got the Service Engine Soon lite...pulled codes....two codes, both for lean fuel, both banks.
Codes were P2096 and P2098,

Is this due to these intakes and a tune is required? Or is there something else going on here?

I did a search but did not find an answer.

Thanks

The consensus is that, between CAI, test pipes/high-low cats and cat-back exhaust, any 2 are fine without a tune, the ECM will adjust to compensate. All 3 mods OR long-tube headers alone will require a tune.
That's not to say that you can't tune a car with no mods. You will see an improvement.
It sounds to me like either something else is going on, or there are more mods than just the Gen III's...

Darn....was hoping for an easy fix.

I cleared the codes (pending & stored), but have not driven.

My scanner shows that these (P2096 & P2098) are permanent codes.
Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 1 & 2.

No other mods that I can see. Just rolled to 14,083 miles today.

Any hints/suggestions as to what to look for?

Check to make sure it has factory cats and not aftermarket cats. These codes indicate an excessive amount of oxygen coming out of the exhaust after the cat.

Ok..got under the Z...the cats and exhaust system are both OEM.

The only "thing" I did find were the hose on both Stillen intakes, up near the throttle body, that go to the valve covers (PVC system)

Anyways both rubber hoses were folded-over due to the tight turns the hoses make between the slide-on connections.

Could this be the issue?

The more I look into these two error codes, the less I understand....like...why is it only the two post cat O2 sensors reporting a lean condition? If the fuel mixture was lean I would think the pre-cat O2 sensor would report lean as well....so my thinking is that there is no un-metered air entering into the cylinders so I can stop looking for a vacuum leak.

Without a tune you'll run very lean, because the cars are programmed from the factory to be lean already, and you just added more air. It will work fine but if you want to get the full potential of your intake, get the tune.

I was getting the occasional lean code on startup before getting tuned when my only mod was the Stillen Gen 3 w/o a tune, but it would only seem to happen on cold mornings and it would clear up immediately.

Haven't gotten any codes since getting tuned though.

I agree; even though most here state that unless all three mods are done a tune is not needed....seems that my '18 is just going to run lean. I thought that the hot dry desert air of Southern Arizona would cause the ECU to remove fuel to avoid a rich mix...guess not.

At this time I am just going to live with having to clear the error codes when they appear. Once I get the CBE system ordered/installed...then I will get an EcuTek tune to take care of this.

Thanks

I used to have those intakes for almost a year and never got any of those codes until a PCV hose got bad and disconnected itself.
I would double check those lines, and check if the filters and piping is correctly fitted and snug.

I am working on both left and right side PCV hoses, especially the left side. Have ordered some 90-degree nylon hose fittings to prevent the hose from kinking. Appears it is going to be another week before I get them.

All the other connections of the Stillen Gen3 intakes are fine.

I am hoping that the kinks in the PCV hoses is causing the lean condition.

Thought I would update this thread as well.....installed Z1 Motorsports silicon PCV hose set, perfect fit. Still need to go for several drives to see if the lean condition error codes get removed.
