The Stillen gen 3's were producing a good 16-18 hp on various cars. I think these would be a great addition.

Those are Stillens claims. I dont think any intake setup will add 16hp. If we are lucky we will get maximum 5-7whp.

In for an opinion after install.

semtex 01-18-2009 08:26 AM

Haven't really driven it enough since install to form much of an opinion. Initial impression is that throttle response is slightly improved. Nothing earth shattering though, not that I was expecting any huge difference. This might sound stupid, but for me, this was more a matter of principle than an expectation of real gains -- I just don't like paper filters!

but regardless of gains you are getting more airflow and they last a long time even without reoiling them

so they arnt a waste i dont think

Will look stock dude. Its stock air box with a drop in filter. Go look at a stock motor, there's your picture.

I had a drop in on my 350z before I got an AEM CAI. I liked it.

Intakes wont be any noticeable power though, just gives a louder growl out of the engine.

tvfreakazoid 01-19-2009 02:10 AM

NM i get it now LOL. Sorry newbie here and I don't know all the words yet.

I should have probably phrased my original question about whether or not it'd be a 'waste of money' a little better. I know that we get better airflow through a K&N vs. paper filters, so from that basic standpoint it's not a waste of money. What I was really trying to work through in my head, however, is how far off we are from getting a good CAI from, say, Stillen on the market. Because if we only need to wait a month or so before they release one, then it'd be a waste of money to spend $100+ on drop-in K&Ns only to take them out just a few weeks later, not to mention spending another $400+ on the CAI. On the other hand, if it's going to be like 6 months before a decent CAI will be released, then it makes more sense to go ahead and get the K&Ns. Of course, I'm guessing that none of us are clairvoyant about future release dates on this stuff, so ultimately there's no way to answer this question objectively anyway.

Well... If I had my Z now, I would get the K&N's. I would not settle on a CAI until we have a bit more tangible gains that are dyno proven. Just because the Stillen made power on the G37 doesn't mean it will make power on the Z.

Just my thinking...

^^^ LOL! That would be just enough to make up for the weight of the bubble gum you're chewing! :D

+1 Agreed. If i had my 370z now, I would keep the stock intake until there is a proven setup that works well. Everyone thought that CAI's would produce power on the 350z and most of them showed no gains and even lost power so that turned me in the other direction of going with a CAI setup. Now I have the pop charger which gives a great sound and I picked up 4whp from it. Ill just wait until there are more intake setups for the Z and people will have their car tuned with real world results.
