Do the K&N drop in filters add anything?

I don't want actual cold air intakes but I did want to get the K&N drop in filters. Do they add any horsepower, sound, improved gas mileage? Thanks!

I've had them for a couple years now. Never noticed anything honestly.

They'll get you about 80% of the gains of a cold air intake when paired with post-MAF tubes, but I'm pretty sure the increases are from the tubes as opposed to the filters.

Some people do say they notice an improvement on the volume level, but if you have an exhaust upgrade, you wont hear it. For gas mileage, that depends on your foot. For horse power, on the butt dyno youll get about 75hp gain, for actual hp, none.

I installed some this summer and I can’t say I felt any difference in power or sound. I bought them for convenience more than anything.

There are a lot of members on the forum that run this set up.

You’ll get a good chunk of the gains as a cold air, yes, but you won’t get the throttle response of the noise. Given that both of these mods turn similar power the one that will psychologically feel stronger is the one you can hear/feel.

I have drop ins / tubes now and never noticed a difference. Used to have pop chargers for a brief time and was in love with the noise but couldn’t deal with the heat soak so I went back to tubes / stock boxes.

I have the K&N drop-in’s on stock tubes and stock exhaust, on both my z and g sedan. No difference in sound, volume or mpg, not noticeable to me anyway.
