Intake question

As a new 370 owner, I am debating what I want to do to the car. Should I start with intake? I have called Nissan, and they are saying about $650 to put the Nizmo intake into it. Is that good? What difference will it make? (besides looking very cool!)

Do you all usually have the dealer do work for you? I'm very concerned about screwing up the warranty.

See this intake thread. It pretty much sums up. This forum likes stillen, then injen cai. Short rams do nothing except hks which does little but looks sexy.

I'm not sure that is totally accurate. I have the Nismo R intakes and I can tell you from my seat dyno that they do make a difference. What you should consider is whether your willing to remove your front bumper every time you need to clean and recharge the filters. Hope this helps. Max gains are Stillen G3 for sure.:tiphat: The Injen intakes need splash gaurds so for me thats a RED FLAG!

Stillen Gen 3 or Injen, those are all you should really consider if you are into power gains. All the others look "nice," but not worth the extra money.
Stillen:
-Take front bumper off
-Expand a little hole to slide tube through
+Top power gains
+Filters only need to be changed/recharged every 100,000 miles
+Bumper removal is 15-20 minutes the first time, but less than 10 after that. It is just getting to know where all the pop rivets and screws are.

Injen:
-Take front bumper off
-Change washer fluid container
+Solid gains (not as much as Stillen)
+Non-oiled filters so cleaning is a breeze, but again every 50,000 miles or more

Also, I was not aware of a true Nismo intake system for the 370z yet, many shops were selling the 350z Nismo intake system which sort of fits.

They don't need splash guards... not sure where you got that from.

someone can feel the difference with the Nismo intake? Find that hard to belive, slight gains are very hard to feel on a day to day basis.

:iagree: for the install, bumper removal is not necessary.
you remove the wheel, and pull the splashguard back and out of the way.

Theres no way you should wait 100,000 miles to clean and recharege a filter. Believe me I have hi performance filters in all my cars and waiting more than 30,000 and your filter will look and perform like sh!t! Give it a break, be real. If you have a garage then perhaps removing the bumper is no big deal. But I have heard a few stories from members that wish they never had removed there bumper due to realignment issues.

I know for sure that Injen not only sells them but advises on it.

:driving: Steve...You should know from spending time here, that the Butt dyno is hands down the most accurate for measuring performance enhancements!...:stirthepot:

An experienced butt can pick up mid-range gains pretty accurately, but even very experienced butts aren't going to pick up anything with the intake, as all of the gains are at the very top of the range.

Mostly what you have is psychological interference contaminating the butt-dyno's data. Aftermarket intakes make really cool noises which can translate to "power gain" even if there really isn't one.

I can say for certain that I feel nothing out of my Injens... they gained power at the very top and at around 10 whp it's so minimal and for such a brief period you can't feel it.

Exhaust on the other hand... +20 whp at mid-range is something you feel without a doubt.

:iagree: The so-called "seat dyno" is overwhelmed by that elusive subjective part of the brain that wants to believe........

Room42 12-20-2009 09:51 AM

Went looking around and the NISMO intakes are engineered for the 350, aren't they? I read somewhere that the heat shields may not fit a 370z. All third-hand info so I'll ready myself for the corrections, but if true and heat shields need to be altered or removed for the 370z, you may not even get the expected gains. Definitely agree to stick with Stillen or Injen based on the good info and experience on this forum for best performance gains. If you try the short ram, suggest a baseline dyno so that you can make sure you're getting at least equal performance to stock.

Where are you getting this information from? Taking off the bumper is easy and zero issues, please provide some information to people having problems.
