The whole "HKS fanboy" statement is totally false and rather rude if you ask me. Granted, HKS intakes on the Z34 don't make really make power but we're talking about one part coming from a company that is known to make cars blistering fast around the track and have the times to prove it. Their work on the Evolutions of past and present or any other Japanese car for that matter is nothing short of amazing. The FQ400 even comes standard with HKS parts from the factory. They have the fasted Evo X in Japan currently.
If we want to go the fanboy route the same can be said about anybody who likes to load up on parts from one company because they trust them. There are people here who would use Stillen parts to the end of time, are they considered fanboys or people who like the parts they like? I say they're sticking with a brand they know to provide them with reliable parts. Knock HKS on their intakes for the Z34 because honestly they're not putting out the power that HKS is capable of making but to say that if they didn't have fanboys they would be hard pressed to sell anything is just insane. Hahaha lots of haterz in here.
I like what I bought and im not hurting for money nor am I worried about a couple HP gains from an intake. I bought it cause it looks nice and sounds good and if I get a couple of HP out of it than what ev. After 30,000 miles I will retire the car to the garage and be selling the intake and going turbo , at that point I will worry about HP gains by the masses. People are quick to make this fourm an unleasant place.

BUMP for anyone with dyno numbers on this HKS intake. One of the Vendor's mentioned in a thread that this set-up nets 8-10 whp gain???
I can't see it gaining nothing. Even replacement intake hoses and a K&N drop-in will give you a few hp (likely not even noticeable) and improved throttle response. The price is excessive though. HKS or not. Then again, there are true honda/acura enthusiasts (not ricers) who pay through the nose to have all Mugen or JUN parts on their cars and they swear by them (the quality is amazing for those manufacturers). To each his own....I just saw a thread with pics of a 370 on spinners Last edited by BLM; 03-02-2011 at 09:02 AM. |

I think some people feel the need to justify their choice of brand to satisfy their personal doubts about it. They need to feel superior to make themselves feel better by pointing out their brand choice produced more HP than yours. Which ultimately justifies why they spent the money they did....I'm just saying
And in case anyone wants to know I went with the bargain choice, HPS tubes and K&N drop-ins. It cost me a lil over $200. HP gains? I'm not sure.... EDIT: I forgot to mention the HKS intakes look awesome! I had it in my 350 DE. Last edited by elmz; 03-02-2011 at 10:39 AM. |

Quite a battle going on here~IMO SRI gives u throttle response and CAI gives u high-end hp. Name brand or not doesn't really matter as long u get what you want it from the products, it's all good brand. Some people like actual performance gains, while some people like the bling and hiss. It's all up to each individuals to judge whether or not it's worthwhile. I myself don't like doing any mod to the audio system to my car, but some people like their car sounds like a boombox. I'm not gonna call a fail on them cuz that's something they put their time and effort into. Everybody has their own taste of modding. Let's not judge or call out other fellow Z owner.
Anyway I really like how ur intake turns out. Like many said I'm little worry about the heat soaking around the filter element. Here is an idea for u~just get another same diameter pipe about 1'-2' long of the right bend, connect it with rubber silicone hose before the filter. There you got CAI with the sound u want it.

Believe it or not, the OEM set up actually works really well with high flow panel filers and smoother tubes, as it already draw in cool air from built in bumper ducts and has excellent heat shielding. There are several dynos on here that confirm solid gains for this set up. The gains are not negligible.
