Custom muffler.. cheap alternative?

Hi.. this sounds badass. All he did was remove the muffler and have some local guy make some custom pipes and tips. Makes me jizzz.
EDIT: OMG! spearfish25 is here in forums awesomeeeeeeeeeeee! gonna have to PM him about a possible replication XD

how much did it cost to run the pipes and tips...

sounds pretty good too...

do you have some pics of the rear you can post here...

Rogue Z 11-17-2009 09:41 PM

Funny.."Sounds Nice" haha is there any horsepower gain?

Gunzero 11-17-2009 09:41 PM

I found out he was selling this for 120$ :D
I PMd him if it was possible for his local guy to make another one for me.
@Rogue Z: I don't want to spend $1k+ on an exhaust system until I finish college :) for now I'm looking for something to make my nuts vibrate

kdo2milger 11-17-2009 09:52 PM

oh yah, that was a while back...forgot about that...

seems like it would be a good market for the z...

Gunzero 11-17-2009 09:56 PM

hell yea! we have teenagers around here who can't spend much money but would like to wake up the Z. This definately would wake it up haha

kdo2milger 11-17-2009 09:59 PM

mieneke muffler or one of those type of muffler shops should be able to do the same...

Gunzero 11-17-2009 10:06 PM

Hmm, well I'll wait for spear's response about the size of the tips, materials used, etc.. cause this soundssssssssss wooooo

spearfish25 11-17-2009 10:07 PM

Yep, that was me. I had a guy on the south side of Chicago fabricate the pipes and tips. Total cost was about $160 and 2 hours of work. The sound was intoxicating...especially the idling and low throttle 'burble'. Damn I miss that. The problem was that at 3500 to 4500 RPM, it was so loud and droning that I thought my ears would bleed.

For anyone interested, I had it done by Tom at One Stop Muffler in East Chicago. I've since swapped it for a Stillen CBE. The Stillen still sounds great but not as loud and without any drone. It's lost the race car exotic sound but still sounds great. With the custom pipes and muffler delete, anyone within 3 blocks of me would turn their head and try to see what supercar was about to pass them by :). (they were positive stares, not the pissed off stares)

Tips were SS and 4" diameter I think (slightly smaller than the 4.5" Stillen tips). The pipes for the delete were aluminum...nothing special except for a flange and the tips welded on. This car just wants to sound like a beast without anything special needing to be done to get it that way.

Total cost was $160 for 2 hours of work. Solus bought them from me...maybe he has some pics from the back. I think I pulled them off before I took any pics.

hey spear, i saw the pics in your thread, looks like he did a good job on them...

how you liken the stillen cbe?

you going to get the gen 3's too?

Gunzero 11-17-2009 10:47 PM

sooooo mad :( i hate you solus XD

Solus 11-18-2009 07:48 AM

Sorry lol.. I have been meaning to get video of it up. They are on now with test pipes... it really pisses off the gate guards in the morning going on base because they are right beside a brick building when you come in the gate so intentionally pipe them every morning because they irritate me lol.. anyways.. I have been promising spear and a couple people i would get video up.. i have one or two taken.. this weekend we are going to get a start up, take off, and drive by video and an in car video w/ windows up and down if we can... then i have to get it onto the computer, my wife is deployed and i am mildly computer retarded so it will be hell to figure it out but i will get it for you guys.. and the drone is still pretty prevalent but its betweeen 2500-3500 ish on mine.. don't know why its different.. i don't mind it though.. i kinda like it.. i am half deaf from explosions anyways

kdo2milger 11-18-2009 07:54 AM

can you do some stills too?

Gunzero 11-18-2009 08:39 AM

Kastley85891 11-18-2009 08:41 AM

Gunzero 11-18-2009 12:00 PM

Solus 11-18-2009 12:12 PM

Just unbolted the muffler put the gaskets and hangers back on and bolted it right up, no welding or anything. I will get some stills too

Gunzero 11-18-2009 12:27 PM

damnit! XD lucky you... hopefully my shop can somewhat replicate that. the sound makes me jizzz. ill buy it from you 200$!

Solus 11-18-2009 12:33 PM

no way lol.. i love the sound.. i think i am actually going to save up and buy the sunline racing midpipe :D make it even louder... you have to remember i have test pipes too so it sounds different than when spearfish had them

Kastley85891 11-18-2009 12:43 PM

Soundclips and pics a must.. I am all for a DIY project

Gunzero 11-18-2009 02:09 PM

man i'm so happy! found a professional in my town to make it for me for maximum 150$ on the quote! omg can't wait for tommorow :)

although he said he was gonna cut something, but i'll see what's up tommorow.

so you had the 4''? would something smaller not be as loud?

Solus 11-18-2009 03:52 PM

I have no idea what 4" you are talking about lol.. i have the stock headers and stock exhaust.. just took the cats off put the test pipes on then removed the muffler and put on the tips spearfish sold me

Gunzero 11-18-2009 08:27 PM

Pretty sure they are 4". You guys are making me miss the old sound. I may have to buy HFCs for my catback now :)

Gunzero 11-18-2009 10:46 PM

hehehehe your fault! should have kept it for kicks, but yea I was just about to order an invidia from lou@amp but this really is a cheap alternative. however will it still be legal? i live in texas

Solus 11-19-2009 06:22 AM

I am not 100% sure but I would be willing to bet that it is still legal in Texas. My setup isn't exactly legal here but...

Gunzero 11-19-2009 08:35 AM

well hopefully it's not louder than a harley.. god those ppl piss me off

Kinda hypocritical, dontcha think? If you choose to be loud, obnoxious and illegal, you're going to piss people off...

Exactly why I don't want it any louder or even close to being as loud as a Harley. I don't know if you bothered to watch the video, but the sound of his exhaust is nowhere near shattering a window. Ever stood by one of those Harley's?

Solus 11-19-2009 10:11 AM

well... i wouldn't say its as loud as a harley or even really close to being as loud as one but it is loud enough to set off a car alarm whilst driving down a one way street in between brick buildings lol

I'll keep it in mind, but it won't be for another couple months. Have to get through the holiday season first :)

Gunzero 11-19-2009 05:07 PM

as long as it's direct bolt on and similar sound to spear's then np.

shesha 11-19-2009 05:29 PM

Anyone know of a place in West Los Angeles that can do something like this for me??????????????????????

Gunzero 11-19-2009 05:40 PM

my local guy was all scared to do it.. my car was "too pretty" and he said he didn't want to mess it up. he was quoting me for around 400$ -.-

shesha 11-19-2009 06:07 PM

Yeah cuz The car sounds like a saturn, and I miss my g35 growl. But I cant spend $2k too change that. I was thing it harken back to my Civic days and just throw in a muffler and new tips.

Possible, without adverse effects? Suggestions?
