Hindsight is always 20/20. From these rough finish and poor casting pictures, would it not have been cheaper to create a two piece CNC cut manifold? I have an engineering buddy in manufacturing who said the cost of molds are expensive even in China. I would expect a better looking/performing product given the price of the product, the quality of the mold, and the quality of the aluminum used. Throw this product in front of a GTR crowd, AMG, or RS crowd and you'd be laughed at.

Doesn't seem to be doing that well in front of the 370Z crowd at this point either.

Patrick, the piece quality is pretty "rough". Even if you were to get it powder coated, it requires a good amount of prepping. The one I receive has lots of dings at least.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psvb45ts4z.jpg

Also, the from what I can see, the insides weren't even cleaned up. There are left over aluminum flaps right by the intake inlets.

What's up with the quality control with Altered Atmospher.... I mean AAM Competition? If any of those flaps break down, then yes that is going into your motor and ruining it. :shakes head:

Received my intake. Upon closer inspection I cannot find any fault with the quality. It does look stunning. It's relatively light weight too: 5785 gramshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ee6bf5e4ca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...502d6f43db.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f4c895165e.jpg

That looks much better than the previous pics. Do you think they're cleaning them up a little more before shipping now?

Looks good!! As it should :) mine is still getting the cleaning/polishing treatment.

JARblue 02-28-2017 01:45 PM

No wonder they charge $600 to powdercoat it - that's a lot of work to go from that rough piece posted earlier to a finished product like that one. Looks good though.

Also, i should give credit where it's due. The red ceramic coating and carbon inserts were free of charge for the very long wait. I do appreciate this.
Thanks Patrick@AAM and Adrian@Torqen

2 little things would of make this thing better...

1) The machining on the engine side should not be scratched up. I'm assuming you received it that way. If I'm buying something new I want to see nice fresh machine marks with no scratches. They could easily put a piece of tape on that surface before removing from the mill to protect it and keep it perfect.

2) The port matching should be better. You've already have it chucked on the mill. I'm assuming they put the bolt holes in it at that time. Why not finish the runners and make them more port-matched.

The red powder coat looks really good!

Nico-derm 03-01-2017 09:17 AM

Red does look good, would much rather see the CF inserts embedded into the PC rather then glued on top... glued on strips seems cheap and will be prone to peeling IMO

Kris9884 03-01-2017 12:44 PM

Well a couple of them look great, guess its luck of the draw..

I'd bet folding money that they're taking a little more time to cleanup casting flash and stuff after the response in this thread. :rofl2:

Agree. AAM should be looking at selling (or have it included) a polished option.

The beauty is in. The fact that the EVAP valve?, or whatever it is that's mounted at the back end of the plenum, is laterally offset by 38mm in my RHD, and now at this LHD-design plenum, stretches the plug harness to its very limit, plus, the attached vac line needed to be cut short by 38mm.

The MAP sensor location is also not OEM but here the harness reaches just fine once some stock tape is removed and the harness slightly re-routed. Apart from that all fits fine.

Finally, the two front breather hoses needa be shortened cos the barbed fittings are non-stock location. But no drama at all.

Noteworthy, one flange bolt is virtually inaccessible and a PITA to torque down because there's too little head room for a torque wrench with 1/4" extension bar plus swivel joint with socket with a 6mm bit, which is needed for these M8 Allen-bolts. One could get a 6mm Allen key in position but then there'd be no way of measuring torqe and the key would still interfere with the two vac&coolant hard lines, so they'd have to be removed. In the end I placed a 6mm bit into this one bolt and cumbersomely hand-tightened it with a 1/4" spanner that sloted onto the bit sideways.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b61ff90f1.jpg

PS: the brass fittings were a tad tricky at first. I re-tapped all threads and all was good. (Probably cause of the ceramic coating). No biggy for me, I had all the tools. I applied PTFE tape to the threads for better seal. Didnt want to use liquid thread sealant in case I want to make use of the currently blanked spare vac ports in the future.

Bottom line, take some time and it's a simple enough DIY job.

So how does the car feel after installing it? Although, of course, a dyno would be best...

I havent got the chance to fire up the car yet. Im currently finishing off the installation of Torqen S coilovers with Stanceparts Air Cups. And with a baby I only get a couple of hours on weekends to indulge in garage time. Plus, the space confinement in my garage (see above) makes even a body turn-round an acrobatic act each time

The polishing was done by Synergy Composites in Indianapolis. With respect to the throttle bodies and port matching, I recommend you reach out to EPS Tuning, they are very quick at responding msg's and their customer service is top-notch! I'm very sure they will take care of you.

NorthStyle 03-31-2017 01:47 PM

Just wondering, why not have them port-matched at Synergy since you had the manifold there being polished? I had him port match my upper/lower manifolds along with the billet adapter for the EPS TBs to the upper intake manifold.

There is lots of news in this debacle of a thread that you obviously didn't read. I doubt they're actually going to post evidence of power loss from a product they had to take pre-orders for to R&D the damn thing...
