I cant decide on exhaust. HELP ME please

I like the tomei exhaust and the motordyne exhaust. Can anyone give me their insight on both ?

Eclipz 07-21-2015 08:43 AM

it all depends on what you are looking for in an exhaust.

Tomei is a single exhaust. It is loud... like really loud. if you plan on changing the cats or headers, then it will be insanely loud and probably drone/rasp (you'd have to ask an actual tomei owner on this one). and some people dont like the look of a single exhaust, but looks are subjective. if you go for the cat-back, it is a few hundred cheaper than the motordyne cat-back. tomei also weighs a lot less, the cat-back system saves like 50 lbs over stock (but some will say that the weight loss is down low and towards the back so it is really no benefit when it comes to center of gravity)

I think motordyne is a very nice sounding exhaust, cant go wrong with motordyne. they have a lot of options when it comes to resonators to eliminate drone, if thats important to you.

Sorry, we can not. We all have the Fast Intentions system.

LOUD! Thats all I got to say about that.

JARblue 07-21-2015 10:08 AM

I'm going to have to agree with Fast Intentions.

I got the Tomei combo with HFC and stock headers. It's racing loud, in fact that exhaust is recommended only for off the streets, but who cares. I have isolated my trunk with dynamat, look it up here under exterior/interior subforum, and I'm content with the noise level inside the car. I'm used to how loud it is and it doesn't bother me anymore or am I going deaf? :inoutroflpuke:

p.s. stay tuned for updates in the coming week/s when I'll replace a bunch top secret stuff. :happydance:

OP, I haven't heard the two exhausts you're asking about but the best one I have heard (and now own) is the HKS Hi-Power catback. It's the exhaust Nissan should have put on the car to begin with.

MagmaRed370z 07-21-2015 01:34 PM

Fast Intentions or ARK. Both have excellent gains and sound.

MicntaeG35 07-21-2015 01:45 PM

I know there's a TON of exhaust threads bit I haveby really found the answer to what I'm looking for (or maybe I just over looked it) but which one has a deeper tone, FI or motordyne? I'm going to pair it with ART pipes

What made you gravitate to those in the first place? Not that they are bad by any means, it just might help us to give you more focused insight rather then generalities.

RomerZ 07-21-2015 02:30 PM

the youtube clips are a good reference. see if you can find anyone local with those exhausts/set ups to hear them in person. the audio quality of exhaust notes is well.. $hit. mind you they may not have the exact set-up you are going for but atleast get a reference point of what they sound like through the RPM band

good luck with your choice!

im running stillen cbe cause i'm a pansy :happydance:

I wish I could find some local guys that had these exhausts but I hardly ever see Z's around here. Ive seen one nismo and about 4 base models/roadsters. But I think I just might go with the motordyne. I ran their exhaust w/ ART pipes on my G and I loved it!

wanker 07-21-2015 04:17 PM

Go with the Motordyne. The Tomei screams "rice."

I looked up a few exhaust and these just caught my eye. I like aam short tails , Motordyne, tomei , amuse exhaust, FI is nice as well. But tomei and motordyne just seem extremely nice. Good sound, loud and seems like exhaust I would truly enjoy. I'm a very picky person.lol

But I just can't decide yet.

So you enjoy it day to day then correct? If I do the tomei I want to get the motordyne Y-pipe . I have a 2015 Z so my warranty is still on so i can't do much :/

I run a Berk Technologies exhaust and like it quite a bit. After having it 5 years on 2 different 370Zs, I am ready to change. I am ordering a Fast Intentions with 12" resonators tomorrow.

LAVA 07-21-2015 07:19 PM

Nothing looks worse than a single exhaust with dual cutouts in the rear bumper. If you go with the Tomei, please do it right and fill the extra cutout or it will be ricey for sure.

define "rice" ... tomei exhaust is very light in weight and gives the car decent power gains.. good for cars that competes and want to shave as much weight as possible to get better times.. IMO that's not rice..

OP.. these are the 2 exhaust im currently debating also and it really comes down to what you really looking for.. weight saving? looks? sound? power gains? etc.. dont let others talk you into getting the exhaust you would wanted less.. because in the end it's your car and it will cost you more money to change your mind and get the exhaust you wanted more in the first place..

essentially every decent aftermarket exhaust will give you roughly the same gains in HP/TQ.

it boils down to what do your ears get wet to

Morbid370Z 07-22-2015 07:08 AM

Fast Intentions with long tube headers gets my personal vote. <3

BC416 07-22-2015 09:44 AM

I have an FI and I love it. Sounds great and looks badass from the rear. When I was doing my exhaust research, it came down to FI and ARK. They both sound and look amazing.

A local has the shockwave with ART pipes. It's loud but not obnoxious.

+1 for no single exits on this car. Keep it dual!

nismo9132 07-22-2015 10:24 AM

I have no experience with the Tomei or Motordyne, but absolutely have to agree that Fast Intentions is awesome. Was skeptical at first, but have to admit it's the highest quality exhaust system I've ever bought.

The Tomei looks like something you'd see hanging off the back of a Honda Civic with a primer coated rear bumper and shocker sticker on the back window. Total rice.

I am in between both. I like AAM short tails also. but yeah i will make the decision off what I will like. Im the one who will have to live with it and drive it. But what exhaust do you have ?

to each and their own.. not everybody is building a show car.. for some of the people here, looks is not their first priority nor is sound..

i am currently on stock nismo exhaust.. i am leaning toward the shockwave exhaust and pair it up with the ppe long tube headers.. just because im afraid of the titanium tomei exhaust cracking on me since i have full solid suspension and motor/tans mount bushings... also the pipe by the canister hangs a little too low for my liking... but that weight saving is soooo tempting lol

if u are going for sounds.. make sure u hear it first in person or online because a tons of exhaust set up will have a lot of rasp

OP, post up in the regional section of this site. Go to a meet and check out the exhausts in person. You will get a much better idea of what you like and don't like.

Yes, I have the tomei and I'm happy with the sound/performance. Some of the downsides are scraping from time to time(fix it with clamps is what I've done),getting racing (not ricing) loud when you step on it, which can be bad if you are in the city. Also, I haven't found a rear 370z bumper suited for single exhaust - solution: fill the extra hole :)

I know what i want now. I ordered the AAM short tails. I am going to get a custom straight pipe with it. I seen a video and it is sweet!

klee370z 07-22-2015 07:51 PM

I love my FI Non-Res CBE, sounds great, looks great! I think it all comes down to personal preference. I will say that the videos on YouTube don't really do them justice. If you can find someone that already has it and listen in person, you will have a better idea what you like and don't like. Good luck!

James10694 07-23-2015 01:50 AM

I have to be honest I first thought the tomei sounded like **** until I saw some good video clips. Now I would love to hear that with my FI long tubes, screaming loud. The only thing that would stop me from getting that exhaust is the single exit and oversized muffler...
