Test pipe
 
Hi everyone, I wanted to know if there's any test pipe that won't turn the check engine light on?

It's not a guaranteed thing with any test pipes, although some come with extended O2 bungs which definitely help / delay the light coming on. Also, packing said bung with steel wool has been known to help as well.

if you do throw a CEL with their products they are great with working with customers to resolve the issue. typically it's due to improper handling of the O2 sensors during installation of the test pipes.

I ran my FI test pipes for a year prior to my tune and never had a CEL.

I have almost 35k miles running FI test pipes and CBE now and never had a CEL.

when you go for quality parts (fast intentions) then you can expect it to work as described.

Me too, ran well over 50 miles (time for the ecu to ready) and couldn't get a cel with berk test pipes. A good test pipe will have a very very hard time to throw a cel. But just reset it and it will be a long time if even ever you see it again.

When you first put the TP on, did the smell bother you?
And does it eventually go away after you break it in?

no love the smell. I smell it even more now with straight pipes. I grew up at the drag strip with my father so that raw exhaust smell, burning rubber, and race gas all seem like home to me lol

no it does not go away. the cats filter ll the poison out of the exhaust (well as best it can) for emission and safety reasons. without the cats all that comes through unfiltered. hence the smell but more so the powahhhhhh :tiphat:

I had a CEL with my Top Speed test pipes at first (after 150 miles) but I reset it, hasn't come back since. Love the sound, hiss, smell, and power :tup:

Did you install the test pipes yourself or pay a shop to install? Z1 just quoted a friend $216 for labor.................. Maybe just me, but it just seems a bit much to put on test pipes.

I had a local guy do it for $100. There's no way I was going to try the demon bolts myself after agreeing on the install price.

they are the worst. install of the TP and CBE took 10 minutes. demon bolts took 3 hours to get off.

it cost me $100 for the TP install... i got about 80 miles on FI RTP w/o CEL.

I had my FI Tp's installed a few days ago by Specialty Z and just today the CEL turned on. I will try resetting my ecu to see what happens.. $200 for the install seems about right. That's what I paid.

Same happened to me - light turned on a few days after install but hasn't come back since resetting ECU ~4-5 weeks ago.

L0L! I'm just say'n that eventually the CEL will come on no matter woot test pipe w/rear 02s installed w/no reflash IF driven for over 500 miles consecutively! That's my guesstimate....Any1 have any real world xperience w/this?

I have never had a CEL. and my only "reflash" was when I got tuned. after my installation of mine I drove it for a year or more. added my intakes and got tuned. have been driving it since then no issues even with straight pipes now I have no CEL.

i'm telling you FI test pipes are the best for sound, power, and no CEL. if it throws a CEL they work with you to fix it.

most CEL's come from people mishandling the o2 sensors and breaking them.

O 5h1+! L00K @ that?! Sum1 w/FI test pipes had their CEL lite up! LOL! Like I said, the only way to never see this BS is to have a reflash...
And the "demon bolts" aren't **** if u brake 'em within the 1st 1K miles of ur Z34....My Snap-0n 2ft, 1/2" breaker bar made quick work of 'em...had my kittens and hole OEM Xhaust off within 90'....Basically, U don't want TIME/HEAT/RUST to G4ld the "demon bolts" on more than the ~150ish p0und FT o tork the FAC sets 'em @....OEM FSM states "33 lb ft" LuLZ!

yes consecutive mileage. I DD the car except for when it's snowing. that's the only time my car doesn't get miles on it.

i'm not trying fool anyone. you'll have someone from time to time get a CEL with FI tp's, but they will sort it out. again almost every time I've seen it happen it was due to the fact the o2 sensors were not handled properly.

purchased car in LA: 1300 miles straight home to PA
va beach: 500+ each way
ZdayZ multiple times; 600 each way plus 200 or so while there
DC (few times a year): 275 each way
etc etc etc

Um nope.
I have thousands of miles on my test pipes with multiple trips over 500 miles.
Stock tune no CELs.
Also have track time on my test pipes too.

Had demon bolts on my CBE with less than 1K miles.
Had to cut of 2 bolts CBE side of the cats.
This was at my buddy's shop and he has 20+ years experience as a mechanic.
Also he specializes in Zs.

My CEL is @ least throw'n 5 codes as ov current...two for rear O2s and three on my EVAP delete....L0L! not that I'm skeered....O! N I also have 1/4 track time on my Z34 too! :eek: I find it funny that most driver's of the Z R skeered ov a little CEL lite...if u have the proper gauges, then u'll kno when ur Z is BR0K3....

I have no video. many witnesses along with BladeZ video of the run somewhere. and it was on Michelin PSS's to be exact. at capitol raceway in MD.
