Confused, Annoyed And Irritated

So just got my Motordyne ART pipes this afternoon and installed it almost immediately after.

I am starting a thread because after listening to that garbage(More Below) i cannot be bothered to read through reviews etc

So i have the Akrapovic exhaust, Its not loud but its beautiful nevertheless, Had a little muscly tone to it which i kinda liked, More on the silent side but great exhaust.

So after an hour and a half that the garage guy took to install,
I start my car and take it for a spin

IT FREAKING SOUNDS LIKE A FART CAN
IS there supposed to be some break in period, Because i paid a **** lot for a fart can (+ that retarded shipping amount)

I drove it home, Parked the car and got into my other car cz it sounded ****.
Please tell me this rattle that i hear from the exhaust now is just the car saying i am learning, gimme a few days ????!!!???
I am ok with rasp or drone, But this is just garbage

/rant

i would post a video but i hate it so much that i just ran away from my car 'embarassed'.

Help ?!??!?!?!??!

Exhaust leak? Or... Yeah... That's what happens when you remove the cats

They are not resonated so their basically straight thru piping which results in rasp :ugh2:

You will need to either use resonated test pipes or a HFC

To gain some horsepower

Aw come on..so this ART is basically an expensive fart can.
i assumed test pipes wouls sound this bad.
So i went ahead and bought this overpriced fart can.
Will upload a sound clip when i can, i dont want to go near my car currently hoping she changes the sound overnight or something
*fingers crossed*

There is a break-in, and at the same time some exhausts just don't do well with test pipes of any kind

Leroydsouza 01-24-2015 03:22 PM

I really hope its break in.
I would be glad if it would be just be half as bad.

Thanks for your replies though.
I m goin to drive with the music really high fr a few days and will update this thread accordingly

Ill save the next poor soul if this gatbage continues

so what is it? making rattle noise? too much rasp? I had a rattle noise too in the beginning, but it goes away after break in.

I really hope it is. Rasp is a very decent word, This can only be described as a rattle.
When i do go over 4k rpm,Then its very evident.Well i have driven about 50 kms, I guess break in period is more than that.

You know people put cans attached to this 'just married' cars, I have never heard one of those cars, But i highly suspect it sounds exactly like this.
Attached for better reference :rofl2:

Rattling? Are you sure your midpipe isn't hitting the cross member? It could have shifted out while installing your Art pipes.

Leroydsouza 01-24-2015 11:52 PM

Well i have considered the possibility but that would mean the sound should come all the time right ?
Not when i am only flooring it

I dont think it could be bad installation (I am useless mechanically so i am not defending myself :P but the guy who does all my work is pretty good) However I will be going to check again this evening just to make sure everything is right

This just sounds so bad. I am too lazy to get a video and i would have to get a drive by to actually make you hear that ugly rubbish noise.

Zbrah 01-25-2015 12:40 AM

Actually if the mid pipe is sitting a hair above the crossmember it would rattles once the heat causes the metal pipe to expand, at least in my experience that's how it happened on my car before I had it readjusted.

Leroydsouza 01-25-2015 01:00 AM

I have no clue what a cross member is

Can you explain to me so i can explain to the garage guy to check for whatsoever it is.
Its just frustrating lol

I secretely hope that this is some break in period so i dont have to remove it. I do 'feel' power but at the cost of a fart can on my car :S

I found this.

The fiberglass packing material is coated with a varnish like substance. A silicagel spray. It helps to keep the fiberglass from floating around during the packing process. Its the same type of fiberglass and coating that is used in mufflers where it goes through a break in period. This coating goes through 3 phases. 1) fresh from the factory where it is semi-rigid. 2) When it is initially exposed to the water vapor in the exhaust gas the silicagel solidifies the fiberglass to a rigid mass and this lasts for about 1000-1500 miles before it begins to soften back up again. 3) After about 1500 miles the fiberglass begins to soften up again and go back to a soft fluffy fiberglass state again. And this is where it reaches its optimum damping charecteristics.

Through the 3 phase changes you will hear a moderate change in the sound. This is normal. After break in the sound will remain constant and attain a smooth deep burbly rumble.

Can u take a pic or post a pic of the whole exhaust minus the art pipes?
