Hawaii Chat Thread

This worked out well in my350z and decided that there should be one here. Especially since I just bought a 370

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

My car is currently in California and was deciding to have GTM install the supercharger kit (Stage 1). However, due to moving back again to Hawaii... I want to save money for new furniture, camera equipment, and other random things. Now my question is, if I purchased the supercharger kit... which shop would you guys recommend to install the package? I hear MunkyWurks and Sonics are good shops... just want to hear some of your guys opinions.

:driving:

The answer to your question...is that for the most part, from what I hear around and some experiences dealing with Sonics, yes, you heard pretty much correct.

They both deal with a different type of tuning software from what I understand though. However, you might want to go backwards. Talk to the shops first before you purchase the upgrades then that way you can see if they are comfortable and are willing to work on those software and tuning programs as well as the "package" that you are looking into purchasing.

Thanks XLR8. I already talked to Sean @ MunkyWurks earlier about the install and had a good vibe about things. My buddies have used Sonics quite a few times and hear nothing but great things as well. I might end up getting it done in Cali but that all depends on the stockmarket =P Plus both shops seem to be pretty busy with Fatlace coming back to Hawaii.

Oh and I'll getting some new filmmaking equipment (GoPro HDs, Glidecam, new dolly, etc.) and would like to do a strictly 370z video. It will revolve around a story and not just shooting cars and adding random music.

Wondering if anyone here would be interested in helping me brainstorm some ideas to get on paper... Filming will most likely be around April but I just want to get started on grabbing people's interests and ideas. Maybe even enter the video at an Indie Festival!

XLR8SN 01-19-2011 11:40 AM

Honestly...its going to be hard I think....not impossible...just a "challenge". The 370Z crowd here in Hawaii seems to be the "older" group....LOL....as if I am young myself :p. Anyhow, from what I hear on the 350Z boards...owners of 370Z's have not yet really come out to any of the "meet and greets". Myself included. Part of it is yeah.....some of us are a little out of the scene now and just tend to sit and watch from a far.

I dont know of any other 370Z owner....but from I see...a lot of them are military personal versus the "everyday" local folk here.

definitionxmk 01-19-2011 12:20 PM

I do notice that the community is a lot older, quieter, and do not really participate in the events that have been going on... I see it as most of the "younger" crowd cannot afford our cars and go with a 240sx, any Honda, or older supercar (supra/rx-7). As for military guys, I usually see them driving Chargers/Mustangs/Camaros/etc.... sure there are a select few who are into the scene and have great taste, but are too few to mention. But that can be said pretty much anywhere...

Whenever I see a 370, I usually end up seeing an older person that is happy with their "nice sports car". To date, I've only met one 370z owner on the island with a lot of dedication and knowledge with his Z. I'm hoping to meet more of you guys when I get back and hopefully start things up!

As for the video idea... I'm sure I can grab other people, especially in the other VQ community forums to start up something. Just throwing it out there!

military guy here..but grew up between here and the mainland.I think I got good taste:driving: and I am not old, just feel unmodded so I would feel out of place going to a meet, not knowing anybody and possibly be the only 370z there....I might go by the NEX this Friday I hear a lot of cars meet up there on Friday nights now, anyway welcome back to the ilse when you get here:tiphat:

XLR8SN 01-19-2011 11:32 PM

I am sure that you would not feel out of place...at least they should not treat you that way just cause you are stock. From what I see on the boards....at least the usual Z/G meet ups seem pretty mellow. The NEX ones are a larger and I think...more diverse group.

definitionxmk 01-20-2011 01:19 AM

Yeah, the people at the NEX (FRI/SAT) area seem to be a little more "F&F" than the other meets i've seen. However, you do get to see a lot of rare/famous/infamous cars on the island... The OahuZ/VQinc meets are more relaxed from what I've seen. Plus most of them are my good friends. I recommend going to those as you get to meet a lot of great people and do what we all love to do; talk about cars.

When I get back from deployment, I'll be heavily involved in the media aspect of things. So yeah... come out!

nixxer 01-20-2011 08:43 AM

I attend a few VQ Inc meets now and then just to talk story. Im usually the only 370 around, and my car is basically stock. I dont really care though, It may not be photo worthy or as flashy as the other cars there but w/e. 370s are few, and thats good in my eyes. I agree with the above posters as well that most people cant afford a 370/G37 and go for cheaper used cars(not saying our car is like, ferari status or anything). I also agree that the majority of owners are more 'mature', IE: not the show offy type bouncing of the rev limit in front of coldstone, or drag racing in front of the zippys meet spot... :ugh2: And XMK, you know im down to brainstorm ideas anyday.

Kingbaby 01-21-2011 06:23 PM

coldstone...

lmao

besides that it was a great meet and we need more of it and have rules set out that theres a time and place for the revving...

XLR8SN 01-21-2011 07:05 PM

I am surprised that the security team wasnt all over you guys like white on rice.

On a cruise...long time ago...we all pulled into the top level of the parking structure and before we could even get out of our cars...security was flooding the scene asking us to leave. Shheeezzz. We were actually all getting together to eat and we had a police officer with us as well on that day. Talk about "profiling" :p.

definitionxmk 01-22-2011 01:23 AM

Mmmm... they have been pretty relaxed the last time I was there. Bleh, I can really go for a coldstone right about now.

There are some ground rules that were laid down a long time ago, and the local security dudes usually dont bother as they are notified when the meets are, and what is and is not allowed. That night there were a few new people, and a few new people that dont know what they should/shouldnt be doing is all it takes to set off a chain reaction. At least a few of those new guys learned to *never* follow a black 370 or a legacy GT... lol. We go our own way and do our own thing before going to new spots :rofl2:

Kingbaby 01-22-2011 06:58 AM

lmao...

john was pissed...

*cough*

I beat everyone there

*cough*
