I got a present to my son and I asked him to guess what is was,,,I gave him lots of clues but he did not figure it out,.,.I am going to post the clues here and see if anyone can figure out what it is I bought him..

I'm guessing a trip to Diamond Head/Honolulu in Hawaii. Lots of people with initials JM...

Barack Obama born in Honolulu.

I'm assuming one of the hints refers to the origin of the Star Spangled Banner—lyrics composed well after the American War for Independence, but the original song is a tavern song, so I lose the trail there.

Sounds like Hawaii to me but I can't be any more specific than that.

Okay you are all very close...Much better than any one else,,,,Hawaii is the main clue,,, but look at the second clue and that tells you specifically what it is..The gift was created by JM.....in 1959...

should be pretty easy at this point,.,.a simple internet search,,

Once some one gets it I will reveal the meaning of each clue,,,which should be obvious at that point,,,

But again let me say that you guys are much much better than anyone else..seriously,,,

The only (famous) BO's I could find that were born in Hawaii are Barack Obama (disputed heehee) and Bobo Olson, both born in Honolulu. I still have no idea about JM.

Okay here is the answer.."in 1959 two stars appeared but not in the sky" The clue here is "Oh say can you see" telling you the stars appeared on the US flag that year..which means I am referring to one of two states that entered the union that year..
I was born here is obviously Barack Obama which means I am talking about Hawaii... I made a crude play on words for the last clue..say it out loud.."How are yee" Colonial times..

Now as for the JM James Michener wrote a famous book called Hawaii which was later made into a famous movie...
