The issue with HFC & I believe RTP is they will break down and could clog the exhaust where stock cats, LTH, and TP do not have this issue. LTH & TP are just straight pipes & stock cats versus HFC have better heat control that do not break down as quickly.

I remember a few places talking about making better HFC that can withstand the heat of boost, but nothing ever materialized from it that I remember.

Over the past couple years I've run 3 different exhaust setups while running the same FI resontated test Pipes. Tanabe, Amuse, MXP. I'm still GTM Stg1.

Tanabe Touring Medallion, Amuse R1 Titan both use Y-pipes. MXP is true dual. I've never done dyno tests to prove my theory but i swear the Y-pipe exhausts felt faster. Felt like the car got into boost quicker and just felt more responsive.. Just my anecdotal 2 cents..

Nice numbers man , must be happy you can drive it finally and thaw only the base tune? You squeeze some more out with a custom tune .great work!

kentmo280z 04-01-2015 04:57 AM

Thanks my friend , was hoping for a little more hp. I did not realize that I could not tune with the cable that came with the kit. So , those numbers are with the canned tune by GTM. Everything looks safe as far as the timing and a/f so I may not get a custom tune unless i have an emissions issue. Custom tune plus license = lotta $$$ for only a few more hp.
Unless someone can convince me othewise. :)

Chuck33079 04-01-2015 07:49 AM

Sams tunes are garbage. You really, really need a custom tune. It'll be safer and you'll make more power. It goes from felling like a NA car with aftermarket FI to feeling like a factory boosted car.

kentmo280z 04-01-2015 08:29 AM

Damn good argument!!

Merv 04-01-2015 08:29 AM

Those are some nice numbers to start out with. Glad to see it all coming together for you.
@chuck. What do you think he could gain from a solid tune on stage 1,another 30/20?

Depends on the tune and the tuner. Depends on his comfort level. There's always more power in it if you take out some fuel and add in some timing. Also, Sam doesn't usually adjust the fan duty cycles or the throttle maps. He also failed to turn off a few codes that pop up when the engine sees positive pressure in the manifold. The really noticeable difference is going to be in part throttle driving. It's easy to tune WOT.

theDreamer 04-01-2015 09:06 AM

Yeah, Sam's tune are very conservative to keep you in the safe range. I was at 400whp with Sam's tune and was working on a custom tune last year when my clutch was slipping so we were losing power above 6k but was confident we were going to see more than 400 if I got the clutch fixed and then finish the tune.

A custom tune will allow you to unlock a little more HP as Chuck mentioned but it is the other parameters that you see the real benefit. Better cooling from fan speed adjusted, better throttle map, etc.

Just a quick question. For the bypass valve, is there a way to quiet that down? I know it's operating correctly but it makes my car sound like it's running bad.

kentmo280z 04-06-2015 06:32 AM

That valve is annoying as hell.. I just put a softer spring in it,$40.00...( for a spring)..... helped some, but the flutter is still there.
Wondering if others who have this valve (plumb back) have the same issue?

Voice59 04-06-2015 06:39 AM

Yeah, the flutter and just the blowing sound is ridiculous! There has to be a way to quiet it down. I've seen plenty of supercharged cars that don't sound the way ours do. Of course they're not GTM made kits, but there has to be some kind of work around for it.

kentmo280z 04-06-2015 07:30 AM

I ordered the WHITE spring, just put it in yesterday. Will let you know as I drive it more. I'm wondering why we can't use a regular
Bov rather than a blowback?

kentmo280z 04-06-2015 04:04 PM

Drove about 20 miles on the new spring. Helps a little but really not the solution.
Other than you and me, I have not heard anyone else with this issue. I expect the blow off whoosh, that does not bother me.
I read another companies description of their plumb back valve( can't remember their name) but they wrote that Nissan's tend to have the issue that we're experiencing....

Voice59 04-06-2015 04:58 PM

Ok... Damn. I'm gonna keep looking for a way to maybe silence it a bit.

kentmo280z 04-06-2015 05:03 PM

Keep me posted as i will for u....

kentmo280z 04-08-2015 02:00 PM

The white spring definitely lessens the chatter. I was cruising in 6th at about 65mph @2.5k rpm and really with minimal chatter.I could actually hear my exhaust where I could not with the flutter b4. I hear the chatter more at lower speeds in 1st n 2nd gears

Voice59 04-08-2015 03:31 PM

Oh wow. My spring isnt that bad. But then again my exhaust is slightly aggressive.

kentmo280z 04-23-2015 04:25 PM

Updates on the Super Charger setup.
Had a Stage 3 clutch installed today.
As the car was up on the rack I noticed a hairline gap where the intake pipe flange connects to the supercharger. The flange does not completely cover the opening of the supercharger. The gap is at most a 32nd inch wide and 2 inches long. So essentially, some air is being sucking into that opening. Going to apply some epoxy putty to the gap to seal it.
I'm eliminating the mocal remote oil thermostat. With the car having boost, the oil will warm up relatively quickly so, I think it's not necessary to have the 180 degree thermostat to the oil cooler lines. Plus it eliminates 4 oil line fittings that could possibly leak.
I will be adding a 7 1/2" spal fan with 190 deg fan control to the oil cooler with a vented wheel well liner to push the air through.
Also , I ordered a synapse diverter valve to eliminate the chattering turbosmart valve.
Ordered a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole position tires. ( RE -11's just a bit out of my budget)
After all that ,should be ready for the trip to Z Dayz!!!

ANMVQ 04-24-2015 01:30 PM

Nice your getting the issue ironed out I can wait to see this.

Voice59 04-24-2015 02:59 PM

Let me know if the sound diminishes any...

kentmo280z 04-24-2015 03:09 PM

Sure thing! Hope it works well! I wanna hear that sc whistle!

That's nice power! You're going to give those stock 5.0, and Srt-10 challengers a serious run with that.

ANMVQ 05-19-2015 02:56 PM

Nice man must be fun finally!

TopgunZ 05-19-2015 05:47 PM

Im am curious why you didn't swap the 8psi pulley out for a higher psi one if you decided to dyno tune. Didn't you keep the 8 just to be able to run the canned tune?

What is the highest psi pulley you can get from gtm for this s1 kit?

kentmo280z 05-19-2015 06:09 PM

Just came back from Zdayz , running the dragon and his cousins... The car performed well, lots of power. Suspension upgrades are in order...

As far as the pulley... The 84mm pulley came with the kit. As far as I know that's the smallest one GTM offers.... I'm not very versed on the different pulley sizes and boost differences that they provide.. : /
