I am going to be dropping my car off with seb tomorrow and the intake valvetrain is all original so we will see just what the stock vvel can really do sometime next week.

The VVEL is really nice actually when you look at it's specs, you have 11.5mm of intake cam with >270Deg duration, but the car idles smooth and the torque curve is Flat from 3200-6500 rpm. The problem is none of the aftermarket ecu manufacturers have been able to step up and run it except motec(cashmoney$$).

It is also smooth, it doesn't "kick in" like vtec does

Motec you say? Im assuming you mean this thing? doesnt give much info on it.

MOTEC M600 :: ENGINE MANAGMENT :: 350Z & 370Z :: NISSAN

1slow370 10-17-2014 02:04 PM

Nah u gotta call motec u need the m800 and special ****

Edit: last i checked it was like 20k for ecu and harness to run the factory setup

I'm assuming the "special ****" is the dump truck load of cash that a Motec setup costs? :rofl2:

Are there any standalones that talk to OBD2 yet, or do you still have to have your OE ecu in there if you want to pass inspection "legally"?

If you want to do this your best bet is to use a gm hptuners setup and convert the sensors and triggers and delete vvel. Hptuner is basically a gm ecu that is what uprev wishes it was, you can control EVERYTHING.

I am a tuner for EFILive (HP Tuners direct competition) and while I agree it can do a lot I doubt you will be able to set it up to control a completely different car unless all the sensors and pickups are swapped out to GM or GM spec setups.

Yeah of course, you are gonna have to change triggers too, probably end up using the config for the gm 3.6L engine.

We need to get EFIlive or hptuners to support our platform at least then it will be a real company that actually has experience with that level of software reprogramming.

Didn't you have unequal charge times which caused issues?

1slow370 11-04-2014 03:07 PM

welll he aslo had a vsr tune which couldn't have helped at least his car didn't light on fire.

Oh yeah! The OP's issue is the unequal length manifolds...whereas my issue was unequal length/size intake piping. I've learned a lot since those days

Have I missed that much? Is VSR's reputation in the gutter? But yes...my VSR tune was horrible.

Nah they only lit one guys car on fire, the rest were all just blown motors.

Yeah, just :shakes head:

Based on some of the stuff I've heard on this forum, there is no way I would let Bobby touch any car I own.

Being 3000 miles away is close enough for me

Just in case anyone be wondering I think it was Valpozguy who had one of his new vsr P/s lines leak and start a small fire. He's the guy with the cool fire extinguisher mounted to the cross bar picture.

Edit: His motor also popped as well

They also did Infidel's GTM s/c install couldn't hook up his oil system right then seized his motor on the dyno and are now giving him a "deal" on a rebuild. His car only had a couple thousand miles and was boosted for less than a week at 9psi.

No. COSMO's engine let go on the Z1 dyno when it was getting tuned. If I knock off some college bong resin I pretty sure COSMO's problem was improperly setting up his boost controller and seeing what the EBC told him was something over 30psi. That's not possible with his setup but still something way over what a stock block should hold. Pretty sure he finally got it right but I think the damage has been done and the dyno took its toll.

They did some what I would consider dumb stuff with COSMO's built engine but they are not responsible for his motor letting go. The jury is still out on the built motor but it seems to be holding together.

ahhhhhhhh gotcha.

idk why they would crank the boost.......Z1's dyno reads 25% higher to begin with. no need to blow the guys block for numbers lol :stirthepot:

Z1 had nothing to do with the overboosting

Puckshaw's car basically put down similar power at Z1 as to Motion Lab where it got tuned.

Well that looks interesting. But am I seeing things or are you going to have to remove your alternator?

37winner 01-18-2015 03:51 PM

Everything is back in the car. The alternator did not have to be removed at all.

Im very curious to see a picture of how you managed to fit the turbo on the passenger side with that alternator right in front of the manifold's exit.

from the picture you provided with the manifold only, it seem like there isnt much space at all.

37winner 01-18-2015 11:30 PM

I'll post up a pic after the manifolds have been resurfaced. It all fits. It took a bit of creativity to get it going.

As for the manifolds being not equal, it is. It's all the same lengths.

Juan@Fontana 01-29-2015 12:43 PM

That's going to be good.
