Trying to work out the launch with my tires. Haven't run quite full boost yet but so far 1.9 60', 11.33 @ 133.9

GaleForce 09-11-2014 07:21 PM

Holy trap!

jlo370z 09-11-2014 07:34 PM

Very Nice!! I need / want to convert to E85 asap!

Great job buddy! FINALLY, someone broke it! It took damn near 2 years. Now back that time up to solidify the record and show the time slip...for proof of course! :driving:

phunk 09-11-2014 08:00 PM

God damn it!!! Got my 1.7 60' and then my f'ing clutch went out in 2nd. You gotta be kidding me that would have been a 10 second pass all day.

phunk 09-11-2014 08:01 PM

I have like 4-5 11.3 time slips to show with like 2.0 6's and only 11psi you can probably see the boost in the gopro vids

phunk 09-11-2014 08:03 PM

Maybe the clutch is too hot. Gonna let it cool down and get a burger. Finally getting some real sick burnouts gojng and I think I can do the good 60' again

GaleForce 09-11-2014 08:14 PM

I hope the clutch is ok. This has 10s written all over it.

phunk 09-11-2014 08:28 PM

Btw the run before my clutch totally started slipping, I did 11.2 at 133 and for some reason my peak boost only hit 11.2 that time, which would be like 75hp shy of my max dyno

That pass was a 1.89 60'

MidnightBlueZ 09-11-2014 08:39 PM

You can do it!

phunk 09-11-2014 08:54 PM

Starting to think it's a clutch hydraulic issue. I notice that the clutch is starting to engage way closer to the floor now. Used to be an off/switch way at the top.

phunk 09-11-2014 09:03 PM

Maybe the csc popped and got the clutch wet? Cause the hydro is weaker since it grabs lower, but that doesn't explain the slip

KevinN 09-11-2014 09:03 PM

pulling for you to get that 10 sec pass

phunk 09-11-2014 09:14 PM

Tried twice it's over for today. Going to have to pull the trans and see what happened.

Mitco39 09-11-2014 09:16 PM

Thats so awesome Charles! Congrats!

Mike 09-11-2014 09:51 PM

******* csc probably

phunk 09-11-2014 10:07 PM

Thanks. 11.2 is pretty cool but I gotta say I'm very disappointed. That time slip didn't even make me flinch because I was still only getting started. As soon as I started to get the 60' down and turn up the boost that sucker just had enough.

When you see the videos you will see what I mean when I say this car was not going to just barely pull a 10.99999 after i 60' with all the boost. I had several mph on a few 10 second cars there, including a 10.3 vette I raced.

Oh well... I will be back! Maybe I can find a clutch sponsor!

phunk 09-11-2014 10:11 PM

On the bright side... That friggin engine and transmission and axles just held some serious abuse. Wait till you guys see how I as pounding on this thing. Finally I have evidence of my driving lol

zguynate 09-12-2014 12:19 AM

People like you Charles are the ones who push the platform and set new standards. Not only by taking a risk of crazy power on a stock block, but also by designing awesome products to help get there. Cheers to you my friend!

Thanks man!

And now that I am back at a computer I want to apologize to everyone for posting every 2 seconds like a teenage girl on facebook.

I went to the track alone and had nobody to talk to :(

Now... what to do with 9 GoPro videos that are upside down?

Mr.Squeeze 09-12-2014 01:37 AM

Wow very impressive CJ great congrats

Sounds like the CSC did give out on you same thing happened to me.

phunk 09-12-2014 01:55 AM

man these videos suck... I thought a GoPro was supposed to be high quality HD lol. Oh well, I guess you can kinda see. I will go through them and upload a couple tomorrow. I think justin got a pass or two on his cell phone video

OK this will be my data post.

60', 1/8, MPH, 1/4, MPH

2.188 / 8.067 / 102.31mph / 11.894 / 130.20mph - VIDEO HERE
first pass, i suck at everything, running 11psi. I check tire pressure and drop it a little.

1.958 / 7.677 / 103.43mph / 11.446 / 133.37mph
do everything a tad better, might have tried adding boost (going about it slowly because settings on dyno and street are different, and i dont want to go too high)

1.913 / 7.574 / 103.80mph / 11.336 / 133.90mph
same thing. think i dropped tire pressure a couple more psi

1.858 / 10.876 / 54.24mph / 18.448 / 63.06mph
i turned up the boost and made about 11.5. I also got the tires heated up a little better and it gripped more, causing me to bog. But still got better 60' that previous. Unfortunately when the boost came on the extra power was enough to light up the rear tires. I got locked out of 2nd and drove nice the rest of the way. After this pass I went into the boost controller and set the boost by speed to keep the boost level below 60mph to about 10.5psi and leave it there the rest of the night.

2.049 / 7.607 / 103.65mph / 11.308 / 133.41mph - VIDEO HERE
nothing to see here really. decent pass with crappy launch. Raced a vette. This vette and I had indentical 60' and 1/8 numbers, but his RT was .5 quicker which is why he started out ahead. For some reason he let partly off just before the 1000' otherwise i probably wouldnt have passed him... his numbers on other runs were very close to mine. Notice that I ran out of gear just before the end and didnt have time to shift into 5th. So the 28s with stock final drive was not able to keep me from topping out 4th before the end. Probably cost me a tenth.

2.045 / 7.572 / 104.61mph / 11.323 / 123.59mph
im picking up mph as i slowly bring up the boost... between my crappy 60' and a little more boost (i think i hit 11.7psi this run) i gain too much mph and i run out of 4th well before the end and attempt to get into 5th but miss and coast.

1.896 / 7.502 / 102.33mph / 11.226 / 133.78mph - VIDEO HERE
A mediocre launch, good enough to bring the ET down a little. I take too long getting into second. I see that my time hardly dropped despite the run feeling cleaner. I check the peek hold and my boost was lower on this pass. I turn up the boost a couple notches trying to get the damn thing to run my 12psi.

1.891 / 8.126 / 73.94mph / 14.828 63.04mph
This is where my clutch problem becomes obvious. The engine is just climbing to redline but the car isnt coming with starting in 2nd gear.

1.719 / 7.327 / 100.45mph / 12.708 / 66.31mph - VIDEO HERE
And this is the run that would have been it... a low 1.7 60'... my 1/8 mile time, despite slipping and staying in it, is 2 tenths faster than all my other 1/8 miles... and 2 tenths was what i needed. The better launch brought my MPH down so I should have been OK to finish in 4th. GRRRR the car just stops pulling towards the top of 3rd so i let out and touch the brakes... and yup drove through a 12.7 LOL.

I let the car cool down for about a hour and try again. No luck. I make 2 passes and its worthless. I lost one of the timeslips but one of them was:

1.847 / 7.598 / 93.43mph / 12.649 / 83.21

And the car has trouble driving up the trailer with the clutch slipping so bad.

Mitco39 09-12-2014 08:40 AM

Man I wish we could get that many runs in in a night here. You might get 4 runs for 5 hours of your troubles.

What did you have in there for a clutch? I would suspect its just the CSC.

Good to know the engine can take that torque in its stock form.

Also you were so excited you couldn't sleep hey? Them are some late timestamps on your posts :p

KevinN 09-12-2014 10:25 AM

I see you are running 28s on a 15inch wheel? I have 18x12 wheels sitting around and thinking about 345/35 MT street radials once i get the car back. When you had the 18x12 set up,did you ever consider running a 345/35 radial?

megalapagas 09-12-2014 12:39 PM

DAMN!!!! That Feel Of 2nd & 3rd! Man Cant Wait till I'm boosted! Shooting you a Pm Phunk!

Yes, but I started with the 315/35/18 because the 18x12 +20 wheels were new to me, and i wanted to go on the safe side. The plan was to run the 315/35 and measure off them to see if I could go larger.

Turned out to be a wise decision... the +20 offset was too aggressive to go any wider than the 315/35 (with my like .5-.75 negative camber). Otherwise I am sure larger tires would have fit. I would go much more conservative on the offset and then use spacers to fine tune it. Thats what I did with my 28s since I wasnt sure what offset to use with that height... turned out what I got was perfect good looking fitment with some 10mm spacers, which is fine by me since I have ARP extended studs.

Its an OS Giken twin. My friends have all reminded me the mileage I have on it now and that I am lucky it did as well as it did. Hmph.

Still to push through a twin clutch setup is impressive. That car must be a absolute beast now.

Now lets see 13psi! lol :happydance:

I planned to spend the weekend settling back in after the last couple days of craziness but this morning my grandfather passed away and my father cannot drive due to a recent eye surgery... so looks like i will have my hands full this weekend. Perhaps next week I will have a chance to look into the Z and decide if I am going to make another attempt this year or just leave it down for R&D for a while.

Sorry to hear, hey atleast this way you went out with a bang. Good numbers and times are good for business!

RoyaltyB 09-12-2014 05:33 PM

Not sure any words can adequately tell you how amazing all your numbers are. Great job man!!! Thank you for sharing with this community and also being a trailblazer to see how far these cars can be pushed. Look forward to seeing you get in the 10's!!!

Funny how now that we're seeing more cars eclipsing 600 the goals keep changing of what we want.

That said, I'm still mad E85 is just not readily available here.

faceglide 09-12-2014 06:34 PM

I am surprised they let him keep running with those times, haha, sounds like a great track!

phunk 09-12-2014 08:47 PM

added video of the first pass of the day and video of the 1.7 60' into clutch slip. Sorry the vids are so long I dont have any editing software and havent looked into finding any.

Hmm Noob question, what exactly do you mean by 28s? I read somewhere here on your thread your running 15s o.0??
