So just ordered my Stillen SC

Hey guys,

just ordered my Stillen SC kit :happydance:

thanks to Vividracing for very quick response/replies and the help. It's so good to get some replies quickly.

most the weight has been lifted, still waiting on refund from GTM through my Credit card company but they should have an update for me late next week, I sent all my info to them for the card dispute on 29th of last month and they said it would take around 30 days once they received all my info.

will be installing myself with the help of a friend and getting the custom tune done with a company here in Aus who is a Pro Tuner with UpRev, so hoping for some decent results :)

sadly I've got an electronic boost controller to sell off now, but all good! We are moving forward!

DEpointfive0 06-12-2014 01:33 PM

FUUUUUCK... Someone I know... Me... Has a barely used one for sale.

But at least you're out of the GTM hell hole!!! And I believe you bastard Aussies MADE money on your TT kits, lol

mikey1600 06-12-2014 01:41 PM

Sorry to say but after the crap we've been through the last 15 months or so, I just wanted to just purchase through a company lol. I was thinking of the used thing but really don't want to deal with anything that might pop up, didn't want to risk it with my luck through life ;)

we will see about the making money part! not sure if we will or not, reason being if the credit card company does the dispute, I think they just pay you back in your currency whatever it cost at the time. It's the least of my worries atm for a couple hundred lol.

Glad to see things are looking up for you.
Hopefully you can get the SC quickly and be on the road with an even bigger smile (and more power).

Plus you can be added to the FI builds thread.

Cheers mate!

yeah they are saying 5 days shipping, so if I'm super lucky end of next week, but thinking more like early the week after :) I'll be ringing the tuning place in the morning to see what days they have available in next couple weeks to work the install around.

also went with the 9lb pulley kit

Might as well bite the bullet and get the impeller upgrade as well!

mikey1600 06-12-2014 02:12 PM

haha will run it as is for now, just want to drive the Z with some FI.

I've seen the last few installs be done at shops, and noticed about people saying the instruction manual says to run the supercharger for 1000miles to break it in, would you guys recommend getting it tuned straight after install (I need to drive approx 31-32 miles to the tuning shop) to get it running right and just some safe basic changes (cause of the 9lb pulley) then go back to get it finished once I get some time on the supercharger? OR during a tuning session would they normally pretty much go through a full tank of fuel?

theDreamer 06-12-2014 02:16 PM

Break in of a SC is only like 25-50 miles tops, which you will get by transporting over to the tuner.
1k mile break seems way high, I would advise after that amount of time to do a good inspection but the tuning should be 100% when you go the first time. After that it might be little things, like a hot start issue (make of note of that one), or maybe some idle issues.

mikey1600 06-12-2014 02:20 PM

okay cheers!

I can't remember if it was 1000 or that was for something else specifically in someones build but I remember about the break in for the unit itself and some people had issues.

thanks for the heads up about the hot start, I'll let the tuner know, they have installed the SC kit before and tuned it, so hopefully they know about it. Anything else specifically that might cause a problem?

if anyone needs anything, highly recommend Vividracing!

I recommend the impeller upgrade also. You will eventually want more out of the kit, might as well save time on the install and downtime on the car. Plus the bump in torque and HP through out the entire RPM band is not bad either.

I would tune it after install since the base Stillen tune will not give you much power and run rich likely. You can still break it in with a proper tune. Might as well save the 60 miles of gas on the tune as well.

My tuner dyno and road tuned my car extensively and did go through a whole tank of gas. I also told him to thorough run the kit for any problems since I didn't want to deal with them on the side of the road. He had to tune my AT line pressures as well so that increase the gas usage. If you're just doing dyno tuning, they probably won't go through a whole tank.

On the Stillen kit, I have seen people mention something about idle but there is a plate that goes somewhere to help balance air flow. I would need to look this one up, as I do not have the stillen kit.

Besides that, on the tuning side, just check hot/cold starts, make sure the idle seems to be in check. Have them adjust the fan speeds to kick on a little sooner.

Vortech recommends the first supercharger oil change at 2,500 miles and 7,500 miles therafter.

They don't recommend running the RPM past 2,500 during warmup phase, until the coolant temps stabilize for 2-3 minutes. This is everyday.

They don't recommend start the car below 25 degree F.

All of this is on the Vortech webpage SC user guide plus some more BS.
