Agreed. what engineer decided it was a good idea to put the maf before the temp and density change

1slow370 06-12-2014 11:43 PM

Draw through isnt a bad idea IFF the mafs can support the new airflow, and you dont put them 1" from the most turbulent air source on the entire vehicle.

The stillen kit is hacked together

^There it is, remember to have them check that plate.
The stillen kit since introduced has shown to be a good kit, but as others have pointed out any expansion can be difficult with how they designed and pieced the kit together. For an out of the box (with custom tune) making 400-450 it is a good kit, after that you need to look elsewhere.

Doesn't it still come with a engine warranty if you pay extra for it?

Its not worth it, You can get it but the second you retune the car it voids the warranty. I talked in lengths with them about this when I bought mine, I wasn't going to run their tune( made 42 more WHP than bolted) I was even going to bring it to a Stillen referred shop to get a retune. They said NOPE. You retune the kit you have no warranty. Owell. So I didn't get it, Trust me tho the kit is good it will make the advertised power( On a custom tune not theirs). I had one loved it !! I swap somethings and made very very good power on it -457WHP- but my dealer sucked and botched the fuel pump install and engine went on a vacation, Sold it all, and want it back now, I will have a Stillen kit again. :driving:

How would they know you retuned. If the motor gives you issues, reflash it back to their map.

I thought about that , But I'm sure there's a way for them to see the flashes on the ECU, IE how many times or something, or everyone would do that. Maybe their flash is locked and can only be loaded once or some other BS the dealer flashed it into my car when they were done. Its just an a risk I did want to try. I don't think it would have made a difference either way with mine. They would have found out some how that it wasn't their tune.

JWillis72 06-13-2014 10:20 AM

They do lock their flash and they will not let you see it or use it as a starting point for a custom tune.

I understand that but you still have the file whether its locked or not. If you have it custom tuned that is a completely separate map file. Reflash it back to stock and then reupload the Stillen tune. Number of times its been flashed shouldn't matter because you could have had it tuned NA before the SC. The only hiccup I could see would be if the flash has a time stamp (i.e. after motor let go).

Not like it really matters as it appears no one purchases the warranty anyway. It's probably voided if you do the install yourself too.

Hey Mikey

With the high temps in summer up in QLD you might want to consider a larger heat exchanger. Considerable improvement on the stillen one.

Air to Water Heat Exchanger

ENJOY

fantastic, thanks everyone very much for the info so far along with recommendations to improve the kit right out of the box.

has anyone installed the kit with the 9lb pulley and used stillen's tune to start the car to check for leaks and also drive to a shop to get the tune done? They have advised to obviously not drive the car on the tune they provide with the 9lb pulley and say it has to be tuned straight away.

I would only be driving very calm/not high revs for 50km (31-32 miles) to the shop that is going to do the tune on my car, should it be okay to drive or should I only start it, check for leaks and get a tow?
