I've had the VSR kit on my car for over a year now, since Aug 13. Its been my daily driver, been on several long distance road trips (over 500 miles round trip), dyno'd at 4 different facilities (VSR, Motion Lab, Z1, Soho Motorsports), driven hard and done several 1/4 mile runs on drag radials. My motor is still alive and still seems to be pulling strong with no problems.

VSR should know who their customers are.

They have DEFINITELY had their kit blow up motors

Do you have proof that VSR was directly responsible for damaging/blowing up engines? I could only see them or any other companies kit having DEFINITELY blow up motors if they were directly tuning or working on the car when it blew up. If the owner was not maintaining the vehicle properly, an other party messed up the tune or other parts, or any other reason not in direct relation to VSR should not be held against that company. I just don't like defamation of an entity without proof or evidence. IF there is any out there I would definitely be interested in seeing it so that I can learn as well as everyone else.

I was asked not to share by the owners of the cars who are not on the forum.

The argument was made that NO car with the VSR kit has had a motor blow... Which is 100% horseshit... Read up on the one that's confirmed on the forum. Car catching on fire, yeahhhh... Sure Bobby didn't hear about that... My major issue is the balls Bobby has in making that bullshít statement.

DEpointfive0 09-12-2014 09:31 AM

And cosmo, please share with us your engine build. Tell me how smooth that went before you start backing VSR as if Bobby was your mother that I'm calling a bitch.

FireDan50 09-12-2014 10:31 AM

Not trying to be argumentative but just trying to get everything straight. So the discussion is how many cars with a VSR kit blew or how many Nissans or how many 370s? Even if any car had a VSR kit on it, was it the kit itself (design/install/parts) that caused an engine to blow? Just in my experience it's usually the owner not doing something right (breaking in new engine, wrong fuel/fluids, not properly taking care of any issues and just beating on the car hoping either something well break or the problem will go away). Just trying to have a civil discussion and get the truth for things to benefit myself and others. We all love our cars and want the best for them...referring to them like family members lol. If there was anything bad to say about anything, people should speak out respectfully, I guess, to inform others and to possibly improve a product.

COSMO 09-12-2014 10:44 AM

Man those are some harsh words. I did run into some issues with vsr but I kept on their asses to make sure everything was done correctly. It was mainly the small things that they failed to do that bothered me more than anything. I'm now waiting on my steering mounting plate and under tray they did not put back on the car before it was shipped back to me. The tranny dust cover was off and the oil sensor was unplugged. Now matter who you deal with or where you go there will Always be some issues because the nature of what is being done. Trust me if something happens to my new built motor I will be the first to post something up.. TGIF!!!

When you start having lots of blown engines coming out of the same place it begins to point to a common issue, and regardless of kit they all had one thing in common, the tune which as stillen proved can make or break a build.

Wait now I'm more confused...are we talking about VSR or Stillen now?

Just to address this.

My example was meant to be an extreme, not harsh. But you have fought for them in other threads.

And I would LOVE to see a full story on your ups and downs with VSR

COSMO 09-12-2014 11:48 AM

You seem angry but hey it's Friday so have a drink...:tiphat:

COSMO 09-12-2014 12:49 PM

I'm getting you both blow up dolls for Christmas...

Joepro 09-12-2014 06:42 PM

Id like to see a VSR car go to RT and let Vince look at the tune...I think there is someone in the burgh with a VSR kit, maybe you all could convince him...I vote poor tuning, just my opinion....I debated between the BP and VSR kit, I think one is more well engineered, and most have gone to top notch specialized tuners and im not aware of any blown engines on the BP kits...just sayin. Hope you get it all figured out OP!

Nut_N_Much 09-12-2014 07:57 PM

I'm local,
When a company goes from Vortex to S&R to VSR is 3 years there's a reason why. Issue started there well before the kit was developed with this company. To their credit they fired some Fuc Tards and hired some pretty good fab guy's. There welds went from 2 year old on crack to pretty decent in the last 2 years.

I wanted this kit but have been waiting for it to mature into a quality set up. I've spoken with Motion Lab has done some amazing things to set this kit up to be a good performer (starting with tune).

I hope you get the out come your looking for, I personally want this kit to succeed I drive an AT Boost Performance hasn't made one for us yet. Also would like to know what people have changed to make the kit better. Starting with the MAP.

Good luck and 5 to 10 only get's you powdered eggs every morning.

Is that Bobby? It all seems to make sense now. :stirthepot:

But really, good luck with the build, man. I hope everything works out.

I agree that you want to have a civilized debate but you have to understand that the motor going doesn't always have to do with maintenance. It's all in the TUNE. If you have a shotty tune, you can do your oil changes at 2.5K miles and motor will still go. :icon14:

Like someone said, culprit really isn't the kit, it's the shotty tune job. This is the main reason why I'm super picky with tuners.

My WRX specifically goes to a tuner shop who specializes with Subies and only Subies. Why my Z isn't boosted, no shop really specializes with VQ motors. Last thing I need is a money pit like the OP.

Mitco39 09-17-2014 11:16 AM

I have a question,

In the picture on the 2nd page in this thread it shows the intake tubes. It shows them smaller and then they have a step up (literally) to a larger size for the MAFs.

Why are the boost tubes so small? They have to be maxing out when under WOT. And why the steep step right before the MAF. In order for the MAF to work correctly it needs very smooth flow across it. That step right before the MAF will introduce swirling effect of the air as it begins to rotate. I wish I had access to Solidworks Flow simulation so I could post some screens, unfortunately we only have it for static analysis.

Which will wreck havoc on the metering system on the car. If you wanted to keep the boost tubes that small for some reason at least make the change up to the maf gradual and then limit the boost allowed with the kit.

Its been proven (CJM) that these engines in their stock form will take 650+ hp and over 500ft lbs. Not sure on the longevity at this power but he did run it down the track a bunch of times without windowing the block.

The tune is only as good as the quality of the kit and vice versa.

I had ups and downs with vsr motorsports also when I was getting my turbo kit from them. I also had problems with jeimports when they were building my motor it happens.

but as for there turbo kit it's been about 1.5yrs and no problem with the kit

Most kits don't kill motors it's tuning or lack there of.

Zoren 370 11-29-2014 01:39 AM

Dang this thread started as a fairytale and ended up into a nightmare!

Its like sending your kid to nice big school to be smarter and then ended up bringing him home later to be a retard!

What a nightmare! Well Im reading this thread at 2am

Does Freddie Kruger works with SR performance?

MidnightBlueZ 11-29-2014 03:51 PM

I don't really understand your logic but everyone has their opinion.. Anyone who goes down the F.I. road should know no matter how many successful builds and happy customers there are there is always a chance of it not turning out as you dreamed it would. I don't think most shops are in the business of breaking their customers cars. But with that said some draw the short stick whether that be flawed factory parts or tuning etc. In my case I feel VSR builds a solid single turbo kit. My engine ended up having a slightly bent rod and some oil starvation on the bearings was also found. Ill leave it up to you all to make your decision as to why it happened as most of you will want to anyway but I know I generally have bad luck. So with that said maybe I just drew the short stick and had a weak part in the engine or maybe something was off in tuning? I'm not sure I can only go by what I was told and move on. Slightly bent rod and some oil starvation on the bearings.. Heads looked good, walls/Pistons good no sign of pre det. Also for the record my engine didn't "blow" and still was in running order so don't get that twisted. The noise I had ended up being a rod being bent. Car still pulled like a rocket. Anyway where we stand now the engine is done and just awaiting a few supporting parts to go back in. Bobby is shooting to have the car on the dyno Thursday. It will be tuned on pump and E85 also running a CJM stage 2 FRS 1000cc injectors and walbro 485 pump. Mike from MTuned will be tuning the car. I believe he tuned COSMOs car too. Stay tuned for the results!

MidnightBlueZ 12-05-2014 09:42 AM

Unfortunately the car didn't make it on the dyno as they are still waiting for Precision to send back my turbo. Shouldn't be much longer cross your fingers!

MidnightBlueZ 12-17-2014 07:26 PM

Little update, spoke to Bobby Monday, my turbo finally came back from Precision after some minor setbacks. Turns out it was in bad shape so they got it right (under warranty) and it's back ready to go. Car is supposed to get tuned tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck! MidnightBlueZ 12-18-2014 11:03 AM

Well of course when I make an announcement things change... :( All tuning got pushed to this Saturday, for some reason the tuner can't make it in today. Sorry fellas, I was really looking forward to this. Guess I've waited this long what's a few more days, right?

Mitco39 12-18-2014 11:31 AM

Ask to see the maf flow rates and make sure they don't peg out at 268 and that your below id say 4.6 Volts.

Just a word of advice...

MidnightBlueZ 12-18-2014 11:47 AM

^sorry forgot to mention the UpRev GT MAFs in the parts list..

I wish you luck, I personally would not go with vsr after some horror stories, but im hoping your Z will be flawless after boost.

Should have some numbers to post tomorrow! Sorry for the delay.. Happy New Years Eve everyone.

Nut_N_Much 01-01-2015 06:39 AM

I hope all works out for you. Vortec, SNR, VSR who every they are these days has the only single turbo kit except BoostPerformance. I have been holding out for Boost to build a Automatic kit. 3 years later still no kit. I may just break down and use VSR. Watching your progress, really hoping all goes well for you.

MidnightBlueZ 01-01-2015 03:43 PM

Well I wish I had numbers to post but yet again it will be pushed back. Tuner called out today. Tomorrow it is...

...I hope.

ATLz 01-01-2015 06:37 PM

VSR doesn't se to be too consistent..
