So I'm going forced induction and I'm curious if anyone knows for sure, will a 350z AT differential (with VLSD) fit my base MT 370Z? I want the 3.3 gears and also anything but my open diff, and used 350 parts are way cheaper and easier to come by

yes it will fit

There's a good chance a VLSD from a 350 will be shot. They do wear out over time. Be a shame to go through all that effort and find out it's toast.

if you're going FI, you gotta pony up for a LSD.

Right, I'd end up wanting a quaife at some point, but I'd be willing to pay the $200 for the gears alone. What wears out on a differential, like could it be that bad at ~60K miles?

Chuck33079 03-12-2014 11:09 AM

The viscous fluid inside of the vlsd gets cooked and it stops locking up. It's a wear item, unfortunately.

R3drckt09 03-12-2014 11:16 AM

Okay, so it'd basically be an open diff then. I may still pick a low mileage one up for the gears and hope it still locks, I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks!

Im on te base map, but actually suprised with how good the traction is even with these bfgs in 285, it got in the upper 60s yesterday and there is a bit of tire slippage in 1st but really that was about it...im sure that will change after the tune, but I plan to upgrade the rubber as well. I am running z1 engine/trans mounts and whileline rear diff bushings.

So the gears aren't even that necessary for ~500whp? Do you have an lsd or open diff?

Im going to run the 4.08's in the 1/4 mile with he stage 3 sc. looking at 10psig tire pressure in the 305 35 18 MT drag radials. on the 7 AT.

Just buy the pumpkin for a 350z there cheap then you could upgrade the LSD whenever you want . I have a 350z AT stock differential in my car now at some poor I will upgrade the LSD.

Attached is a photo of my new set of wheels/tires for when I dont feel like dealing with any spin. Thats 3 sets of dang wheels for this car now, although only 1 set of fronts lol. I will be putting some skinnies up front soon though, just havent done the work to pick some out and order.

I am going to do a full setup for drag... temporary. Just for a couple local events I will setup the alignment and suspension (and rear brakes) for it.

What brakes are you using in the rear? I thought the 370 base brakes can only fit a minimum of a 16 inch wheel?

SlowZ 03-17-2014 03:26 AM

Did not read that you were changing out brakes lol. What brakes are you going to use then? Stock non brembo 350 brakes?

phunk 03-17-2014 03:35 AM

Yup base model 350z rear brakes. I bought some stoptech rotors and pads for back there. Did the same on my 350z occasionally

SlowZ 03-17-2014 03:43 AM

Gotcha. The selection of 16 inch drag wheels to 15s is insane. 16s are almost non existent compared to 15s. I might get a set of base 350 brakes. Would you recommend running those as for a street car? I really wouldn't want to switch brakes every weekend. I just don't have the time and patience lol
