Thought I would pop in here with a bit of an update.

I put the kit through a bit of a torture test this weekend at Road Atlanta with Global Time Attack.

Two days of absolutely thrashing the **** out of it. Two sessions were in 90+ degree heat with high humidity.

...And it didn't miss a beat. Ran like a top. I have to admit, beforehand I was concerned with what oil and water temps I would see, but it never broke a sweat. Oil never got over 220ish, and water was never above the middle of the range. As background, I have the Mishi rad and FI 34 row oil cooler.

Anyway long story short: I had a blast. The car absolutely hauled ***, and behaved perfectly. I spent most of the time getting accustomed to all the additional power, trying to find the limits, and building confidence. I definitely need more aero now. Coming down the back stretch at 170ish, the rear is seriously squirrely under braking. I ran with the same RE11's that I've had on the car for some time. They have 20+ heat cycles, so they are definitely past it, but I was still pleasantly pleased with overall traction and balance. Still relatively neutral. Can't say enough good things about the OS giken lsd, although the fluid was totally cooked when I changed it yesterday.

One session was in the wet and that was...interesting? Terrifying? Given you can make it step out rather easily in the dry, it was a handful in the wet. Turn 12 was definitely a "pucker" moment for sure.

I put together a quick clip for you're viewing/listening pleasure. Still waiting on my buddy's to get my some outside-the-car video. We took 2 photo/video guys with us, so should have some good footage.

In the meantime, enjoy!

Awesome video! If I wasn't a college student I'd be out there with you!

So now that you guys have had your kits almost a year now... What tires and wheel/tires sizes have you tried and recommend?

It is going to depend on your application/use. Me personally, I am a big fan boy of the Michelin PSS. Yes, they suck when cold, but they work great when warm, hold well enough in the rain and last a long time. It is a great compromise tire for all around. The RE-11's Faceglide will attest to are better for dry performance but have a shorter tread life.

For an all out track tire, I am going with the Michelin Pilot Cups. As a dedicated track tire, this is a good as it get (IMHO.)

Others, feel free to chime in...

Thanks.

-Tony

Pretty much cannot go wrong with either. I prefer re11s, but they last not nearly as long. Tried drag radials and while nice, I do not like having them on the street. Working on some r888s, hopefully they last longer than 4 months! Haha!

phunk 10-01-2014 01:54 PM

my experience with the R888s is that when brand new and fresh they would hook up 3rd and sometimes second. After a month or two, 2nd never and 3rd sometimes. That was with most negative baseline camber removed (i think i have -0.6 or so, cant recall ATM) and when my car was less power than you are running right now (i was at 586rwhp)

faceglide 10-01-2014 02:15 PM

So far it has been real good(r888s), holding up to 3rd gear(forget about 1-2...). I honestly do not expect much out of ANY 19" tire at this point, with this power and this platform. We also left alot of torque in my build, so that will make things interesting.

I came to this conclusion running the tall DR(it was an improvement but marginal), so I am not at the point where I believe r888s or something like a sport cup will be a daily tire(yeah sounds nuts, but the r888 at least is great in the type of rain we get) and a dedicated 17" or smaller for proper hooking. Gotta pay to play, but jesus is it fun! I just want to be able to power-shift ANY gear without looking like an idiot and losing all sense of traction). Even 3-4 is a joke haha.

I am very curious in gearing changes when my built block is ready to roll(mostly delayed by me in my part buying silly things like wheels and seats...rofl). I dont think the car will stand a chance at my intended power/tq levels with standard gearing....who knows, I just pay and drive it, anything else I leave to you you guys, haha.

mfeinst 10-01-2014 02:24 PM

As far as a "compromise" tire goes, I don't think it gets much better than the Michelin PSS. Great all-around handling characteristics, longer-than-normal wear for high performance tires, good rain performance.

VSS370z 10-01-2014 04:03 PM

My car is been build as i wright this with the F.I. twin turbo and tires is the only aspect i have left but it seems that 1st, 2nd and mostly 3rd in this car are useless no matter the tire, still would like to see someone here chime in with a review of the Michelin Pilot Cup tires but i get perhaps why no one have tried them they are frinking $$$.

Super Werty 10-01-2014 09:38 PM

thanks for the reviews guys! keep em coming!

Also tires sizes would be helpful!

Well heres my review of my fast intentions kit. I love it. Haha. I dunno what else to say.
I wish i had more time to enjoy it but winter came early here in the east coast so i will be starting my winter project a bit sooner.
Currently running 13psi. My mafs maxed out at 14psi so i picked up some gt mafs and will be cranking up the boost. Will be picking her up next thursday so ill have a new dyno sheet for you guys.

20-25 psi.
This should be interesting. I will be doing an e85 tune in the spring time. Anyways stay tuned folks. I know this was long overdue but ill write something nicer when i pick up my car.

And thanks again Fast intentions!

DJTODD’s (long, LONG overdue) review.

Hey guys, this has been a long time coming and I’ve already put info out in bits and pieces, but here is my consolidated review. I originally intended to get a few thousand miles on before I posted this, but I let real life get in the way.
My apologies if it’s a bit long winded. I didn’t want to half-*** it, as it’s meant to assist people in making a very expensive decision.

I guess let’s start with the end result:
http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...g-original.jpg
http://www.the370z.com/members/djtod...le-trouble.jpg

In case the pic is hard to read, that’s 658.59whp and 588.7 lb/ft at 13.4psi and 21 degrees of timing.

If you don’t want to read the whole long review…here’s a quick and dirty summary:
Quote:

I’ve been on-board since before this kit was a reality.
I was the first one to put my money in…waited nearly two years…made huge power on the stock block…beat it like a dog at the track…and haven’t regretted my decision for one second. - DJTODD

With that said, I’ll explain how we got here, and touch on some of the important things I think those debating a purchase should consider.

I’ll try to touch on the things I would want to know about if I were in the market today. Mainly:
  • Pre-sales experience
  • Installation
  • Quality of the kit
  • Post-sales
  • Communication
  • Hindsight. What would I do different?
  • Overall Thoughts

Background:
This entire process started for me about a month after I purchased the car, in July 2012. I called to order a CBE and HFCs. My experience was the same as most others where the exhaust goes…felt like a long wait for an exceptional product. The wrinkle came when I called shortly after receiving my initial order. I asked Tony some fitment questions about a TT kit I was considering. He answered my question, then he mentioned something to the effect of “you know, we’re working on a TT kit…” Well it all went downhill from there. After talking to him for about an hour, I was sold. I literally tried to give him a deposit right then, but he was adamant that they wouldn’t take anyone’s money until the kit was ready.

My reasons for being committed so quickly were more based on many of the small details in the design. They really drove home the fact that this isn’t something they were just throwing together to make a quick buck. They wanted to make hands down, the best TT kit for this platform.

Pre-sales
Over the next 6 months or so Tony and I spoke and emailed back and forth…a lot. He kept me up to speed on the saga and heartache of bringing a product like this to market, and I tried to not lean on him too much. During this time we also firmed up exactly what components I would be going with. My initial goals were rather conservative. 500whp on the stock block. Anything more than that would be gravy.

As painful as it may have felt at the time, the waiting period actually worked out well for me as it gave me the time to do all of the supporting mods. I already had the suspension and brakes sorted fairly well, but being able to do all the other upgrades PRIOR to the TT install really made the end result that much sweeter. I didn’t have to worry about messing with any of them after the TT install.
  • January 2013 – FI releases the kit for everyone to see.
  • March 2013 – Tony finally lets me give him my deposit. I run around cackling, then settle in for the long wait between prototype & production.

All that being said, the main positive during this period was that I was kept in the loop about what was going on. This is one area where most companies (and individuals) in this space really fall down. During this time we spoke or emailed at least once a week. I can’t overstate how much peace of mind this level of communication gave me during the waiting period.

Fast forward to February 2014. I get the call I’ve been waiting for, we’re ready. I pay my remaining balance and call the transport company (more on the in the next section)

Install
So, at the beginning my plan was to have the kit installed at a pseudo-local shop (~3 hours from home). Tony was going to fly out and oversee the first install. Well, the closer we got, the more difficult that reality became. The main problem was the fuel system. They had already done a production install or two and got a feeling for the headroom in the returnless fuel system. Since I was going straight e85 (damn you flex-fuel cars btw!) we made the call to go ahead and do a return conversion, step up to a larger pump, delete the in-tank regulator, and upgrade to CJM rails, and a few other odds and ends necessary for my long term goals. I also went with the Bosch 1000cc injectors.

Anyway, net-net, since they were doing this fuel system one-off (it eventually became the fast-785) Tony really didn’t feel comfortable prototyping things in someone else’s shop. So, when the time came, I had the car shipped out to Simi Valley. Tony’s best guess on start-to-finish time was 4-6 weeks, which was about what I had in mind as well. I had full confidence in the FI guys, especially after talking with Dan and deducing that he was as OCD as I am about attention to detail.

I loaded the car onto the transport on February 10th. This would have it there about a week earlier than Tony needed it, but I figured having there early was better than late. It took a little over a week to arrive.

The day after it arrived, Tony sent me some pics of it freshly washed, covered, and tucked away in its bay. The next few weeks were tough for me, but work and kids kept me busy so I didn’t go too crazy. The good news was that they were happy with the new fuel system, and fired the car on 3/18. That’s just under a month after they received it.
The next day brought the second reason I was excited to ship the car to CA. Seb@SZ! They took the car to Seb on 3/19, and by the end of the day we had the results you saw at the beginning. Nearly 660whp at 13psi and 21 degrees of timing. Pretty damn impressive.

The next day I gave the go-ahead to the transport to schedule the pickup. It would be about a week before the truck would be there, so Tony and Dan put some miles on the car just to be safe. I had a big track day at Road Atlanta coming up, so we wanted to put as many test miles on it as we could.

The car was loaded on the transport on 3/27, almost exactly 5 weeks after they received it. Tony’s original estimate proved pretty spot on. Dan sent me a quick note with a pic of the car on the transport, and I began my final week or so of waiting.

The transport arrived on 4/4. He had to pull two Mclaren 12Cs out to get mine off. Watching him unload them, it occurred to me that my car made significantly more power than them. Pretty cool revelation.

Anyway, I did a quick inspection, oogled over everything for 15 minutes or so, and then went for my first drive…
…I texted Tony with just a string of expletives a few minutes later. There was probably girly “squee” at some point during that first test drive.

Net-net for the install is this:
  • It was thoroughly planned out on their part.
  • Expectations and timelines were clearly communicated and agreed upon (by both parties).
  • The cost was reasonable for the work being performed.
  • The end result was phenomenal.

Quality
Honestly I don’t think I need to belabor this point very much. Like their other products, the quality is absolutely top-notch.
UNLIKE their other products, which are normally 2-6 pieces, this kit is amazingly complex. As impressive as the big parts are (like the manifolds for example) for me, the attention paid to the small parts is perhaps more impressive. I mean even little fittings and heat shields have the FI logo etched or machined into them.

The fit and finish of the kit is…phenomenalspectacularUNBELIEVABLY good!

If you’re considering a TT kit and haven’t seen one of these in person, do it. Make the trip to a show, or shop, or someone’s house, or wherever one of these kits is in your vicinity and just look at it. If possible on a lift…with the front fascia removed.
Again, it was the small things that blew me away. The routing of the fuel & oil lines. The perfect placement of the relocated filter. How the solenoids were mounted out of the way but still easily accessible. The hand-bent heat shields…on and on and on.

I really can’t stress it enough. Pictures don’t do it justice. You have to see one in person.

Post-Sales
Since the initial purchase and install I’ve talked or email with Tony more times than I can count. When I last checked there were upwards of 200 emails back and forth. Needless to say, we’ve kept in touch.

I’ve also purchased a few new products since then, and have been brainstorming with Tony for ideas the try over the winter. My experience after the sale has been even better than before, which is likely no surprise for anyone who has done business with FI.

Not much more to say here. Typically great FI customer service experience.

Communication
I’ve already touched on this a lot, but if there is one thing that sticks out in my mind, it’s the communication throughout this entire process. In typical FI fashion, it was top notch from start to finish. I think Faceglide may have put it best when he said something along the lines of “I didn’t have to call Tony. If there was something I needed to know, I knew he would call me.” That really sums it up well.

I spent many, MANY hours on the phone with Tony prior to the purchase and during the early phases of planning this build. By the time I shipped the car to them, I felt so comfortable that I didn’t feel compelled to call or email constantly for updates. Of course Tony came early and often with the updates anyway. He was even calling and emailing right up until the day he hopped a plane for Italy!

Vendors and shops in the aftermarket business are notoriously poor communicators. I’m sure most of you reading this have at least one horror story. I know I do. That was never the case for me. I never felt uninformed or uncertain in any way. Tony was always great about setting proper expectations, keeping me informed throughout the process, and following through on his commitments. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Hindsight. Looking back, what would I do differently?
I honestly can’t say that I would change very much.
I learned more about transport companies than I ever cared to know. All I can say there is plan ahead and get them lined up early, then expect them to change dates on you anyway.

Knowing what I know now, there’s really only one thing I would have done differently…More tire. Spinning 305s in third gear is madness! I'll be stepping up to a 11.5 or 12" rear over the winter if all goes to plan.

Overall Thoughts
Overall I couldn’t be more pleased with my decision. I have about 6000 total miles on the car since the install, 900ish of which were on the track. Several of those track days were 95+ degree days and high humidity. The only thing I've done since the build is change the fluids.

I think Tony was as excited as I was for the first shakedown. It was a very public event at Road Atlanta, so it was really put up or shut up when it came to reliability. I had no time to do any prep on the car before the event. Literally the only thing I did was reinstall my race seat, drain the coolant that FI filled for transport, and refill with water. If I had experienced any problems it would have been very public, in front of several thousand spectators. But as expected, it ran like a top.

And it hasn’t missed a beat since. It starts, idles, and drives perfectly. I’ve never had a single problem with starting, rough idle or surging, etc (which is contrary to all my previous experience with large injectors). In all aspects other than the power, it behaves like a stock car. Speaking of the power…ohhh the power.

Ok yes, the big numbers are impressive. But for me the most impressive aspect of the kit is the power delivery. In particular the boost threshold and response.
Anytime you want, it’s just…there. 2900rpm in 5th gear, tip in and it makes boost…Instantly. And it’s not like these are tiny turbos with teeny trimmed wheels and small a/r housings. It’s shockingly responsive. I was honestly expected a bit of lag (which was fine, ultimately I wanted to headroom) but there is NONE. In fact, I have to dial it back at the track and run spring pressure in first and second gear, which is still ~500hp!

OK I’ve rattled on enough here, but I really can’t say enough good things about the kit, the company, and my experiences with both.

• Tony and the guys at FI have always been a pleasure to deal with.
• The price is more than fair considering the quality of the components you’re purchasing.
• The kit is beautifully crafted.
• It makes ridiculous amounts of power, even at low boost levels.
• The installation was top notch.
• Post-sales support and experience is bar-none the best in the business.

I never felt like just another customer. I really feel like they are much more invested in their customers, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say about some of the other vendors around here. With FI, it’s hard to say which is better: The quality of the product, the customer service, or the people.

Regardless, it’s a winning combination.

~Josh

I have now concluded my research and its time to contact Tony to see how we should proceed. My only concern is that I have a AT 370Z, not my first choice but I wanted a yellow Z and I could only find on in AT. That said, I'm wide open so changing this car is not out of the question.

RoyaltyB 11-28-2014 01:05 PM

cfran, go to the Fast Intentions Twin Turbo Kit is here thread and last few pages will show you their solution for the 7AT is ready to go to the dyno. Good luck and don't hesitate to contact Tony and the FI team

Thanks. I gave them a call, just waiting for a reply.

What size tires are you running? Would I have major traction issues with 285/35/19 re-11s in the rear? I assume I would need to lose my 4.08 gears because I'll just be spinning the wheels.

Yea I would definitely go back to the stock drive ratio, and 285s should get you by until you burn through that set and then you can step up to something a little wider.

djtodd 04-22-2015 10:44 AM

Haha yeah. You could probably spin through 4th with a 4.08

How wide are you guys running? I'm not sure how wide of a tire I can fit on my 10.5" wheels.

djtodd 04-22-2015 11:02 AM

You can safely run a 305 easily. That's what I ran for quite a while at the track

problem with 305/30 is that it would be a much lower tire than what i am currently running. I have concerns with ride quality and clearance. I barely clear a speedbump in my driveway as is.

if youre on 275/285 the tire diameter is probably only 1/4-1/2" smaller.

RE-11 diameter is 26.3" and 285 is 26.9" for example.

PSS: 305/30 26.3" 275/35 - 26.6"

go 305's for traction. :tiphat:

djtodd 04-22-2015 12:04 PM

Right. 1/4" lower ride height. Easy trade if you ask me
Just raise the car a teeny bit if you need to :)

Fast Intentions - Customer Review

The Car: 2016 370z Nismo Twin Turbo
  • TT Kit Built and Installed by Fast Intentions
  • ECUTek Tuned by Sebastian (aka - Seb) at SpecialityZ
  • Car currently runs stock Transmission, Engine Internals, Diff and Axels (For Now)
  • Please note that I am NOT sponsored by Fast Intentions or SpecialityZ nor have I received any discounted pricing for a review
  • This is my second car ‘build’. My first was a VW Corrado that made the Dec 2009 cover of EuroTuner Magazine (now SuperStreet)

Review of my Fast Intentions experience:
Over the summer I made the decision to go TT on the Z to pursue my road racing passion at P.I.R. this spring. After looking at the various TT options out there, I went with the Fast Intentions kit. I had previously purchased my exhaust from them and was initially impressed with their customer service (Kevin Verdina and Tony Meyerson) and then totally blown away by the top-notch quality of their product. So, the decision was easy and off the car went to Fast Intentions.

Throughout the build/install process, both Kevin and Tony emailed or phoned me with weekly status updates on the car. They even went as far as providing little teaser pics on their progress just to keep me excited. This was a big ticket purchase for me and the Fast Intentions Team went to great lengths making me feel like a valued customer. Overall, a very positive 5star consumer experience for me. Once I got the notice that the car was done, I flew to Cali to pick it up in person and then decided to drive the car the 1,100 miles back home to Portland Oregon.

Since the drive home I have had two additional months of seat time for a total of 2,000 miles behind the wheel, on the TT kit and with the suspension upgrades.
  • Thus far I have seen outside temps ranging from 70°F in California to 27°F through the Mt. Shasta area. The oil temp holds rock steady at 180°F even under spirited prolonged driving
  • Stock 370Z Nismo MGP’s are advertised @ 26/mpg highway. Running ~70% ethanol on average with slightly more than spirited driving the car is averaging 19.6/mpg’s highway
  • I took the car in for scheduled maintenance at Wilsonville Nissan. (first time that they had seen the car since adding the kit) When I picked up the car, the Service Manager and several of the Service Techs pointed out that “this was the highest quality install they had ever seen. From the fit and finish to the quality of the parts used we are very impressed”. This gave me great confidence as I was worried they’d give me some kind of warranty grief. Phew!
  • Since having the car back in Portland I have had no CEL’s, noises or mechanical issue with the car. It literally performs as advertised…..Flawlessly.
  • On Tune 1 (wastegate pressure only) the car makes ~6lbs of boost and puts down roughly ~475rwhp. This tune is what I use for my daily commute and is what the Z should have came with from the factory. Perfectly streetable power and it really wakes the car up.
  • On Tune 3 (or as I call it the about to hurt some feelings tune) the car makes ~13lbs of boost and puts down +675rwhp. This tune is downright demonic and requires every ounce of driver skill that one possesses. The stock Potenza’s have no chance from a dig but fair pretty well at rolling speeds and under hard acceleration. Once these tires give up the plan is to upgrade to either Toyo R888r’s or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s.

Spend that Christmas money you got or that upcoming hard-earned tax refund on a Fast Intentions Twin Turbo kit or any of their other products that may be in your budget range. Put your trust in Fast Intentions and you won’t be disappointed.

JWes79,

Great review! We really appreciate you taking the time to compile your feedback to help inform other enthusiasts about your personal experience with our products and services.

It was a real treat working on your car; I'd say it was our best work to date. From the "trick" gauges, to the KW / SPL suspension and custom coatings, your car is definitely one of a kind. Not to mention it was our first time eclipsing 700+whp on the stock motor.

Thanks again for the business and support!

The first time I drove the car at MA-motorsports I was overjoyed. I was also disappointed in a way.
The darn roads were as winding and narrow as you would find at Zdayz. The car did great and the boost was easy
to control with the right foot. I was glad I upgraded from the 2.0 turbo's to the 2.5 turbo's.
The only problem was I couldn't stretch it's legs and boy does it have some legs. So I load the car up and off to
the house I went. I pulled in at 3:00am. I get up the next morning at 10:00am. I did my morning chores and
unloaded the car. Now, we have some roads I am familiar with and off I went. Boost controller, 17psi, E85-Full tank, Perfect.

The car is a little noisy due to the solid motor mounts but not bad at all. I drove it for about 10 min. normal
to get the oil temp up and some heat in the tires. I got on it some and let her eat in 3rd. She wiggles a little bit
but the tires hooked somewhat. Ok, so the tires aren't warm enough. Not a problem. I drive a ways more and shift
it down to 3rd. The car hooks up perfect this time and I am WOT. The front end stands up in the air, the steering get's light,
and I bang 4th gear. The front end stands right back up in the air, steering is still light, and it just keeps pulling.
It looked down at the speedo, Oops, I let off. Note to myself: Be careful the car is real fast. So off to the store for the wife. While I am letting the car idle and cooldown I just sit in the car and laugh for 5 minutes straight. LMAO. The car stays on 17psi of boost and E85 everywhere I go. I am having the time of my life with it.

I would like to say Thank You to Fast Intentions,MA-Motorsports, and R/T Tuning. The quality of the parts and workmanship are top notch.
The car turned out PERFECT first try.

We're very happy to hear you're enjoying the car. It's been a long time coming; and boy did you do it right!

Let's not forget to say thanks to the guys at R/T as well; they seem to have hooked you up with one heck of a tune!

Enjoy it and keep us updated over time. Can't wait to hear about when you stretch her legs in the half mile.

370Z Standing Half Mile - New World Record
  • Date: 10/26/2019
  • Speed: 166.85 MPH
  • Event: Shift S3ctor - California Airstrip Attack
  • Driver: Sebastian of SpecialtyZ (owner / builder / tuner)
  • Tires: Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial - 305/35/R18
  • Engine: SpecialtyZ Forged VQ37VHR
  • Turbos: F.I. Inc. - Stage 2.75
  • Power: 800 - 900 WHP

Huge congrats to Sebastian of SpecialtyZ on breaking the standing 1/2 mile world record!

This was the first time the car had been out for shakedown testing and she performed as advertised. Traction was interesting but he worked through it and consistently improved MPH as the day progressed.

On the last pass of the day he clocked a 166.85 MPH. We are proud of him and the work that we've all put in on this platform over the past 10 years. We can't wait to see what the future holds!

Not that I know of. The launch control was lame anyway.

Can anyone tell me what the Stage 2.5 for this kit has? Website only shows specs for the Stage 2 and Stage 3

It is a Zonarotor turbo comparable to a GT3076 garrett. I don't have the Zonarotor part number at this time. Give FI a call. They can help you out.

Our STAGE 2.5 features twin XONAROTOR 3076 turbochargers. We've effectively used this kit on numerous builds where customers had built their motor with a lower compression ratio from stock.

Shiiii yea I am!! Got my baby back dude! So excited! And i totally agree, launch control sucks, there’s really no way to effectively use with without spinning everywhere. Granted I haven’t tried it on slicks yet...;)

Right now she’s a JMS in TX getting a full overhaul and look over but it’s my same Z, same model, trim, color, manual, same twin turbo kit, (fast intentions the only way to go) just stage 2 and a closed deck stage 2 JMS built block. So excited to be back! Get to start right back where i left off, Suspension is the first dollar going into her. Can’t decide on AST 5200 or the JRZ RS pro
