This thread just makes me want this TT so much more... Tony and F.I team be on the look out! You'll be installing one in my car one day!
|
Save now buddy! My car had been there a couple weeks and all is smooth sailing...even tho I threw some curve balls their way. Everything is very pleasant dealing with Tony and all...I am so happy in fact that I will be throwing a couple fun projects their way this summer/fall.
I will save the rest for my review, but my build is likely to continue the trend of sounding results. Worth....every.....penny. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk |
Tony, Dan, FI and SpecialtyZ,
This thread is likely to be the best marketing (and impressing the s*** out of everyone; besides experiencing it) tool for this kit. Everyone already knows about the amazing quality and customer service from both teams, but just reading these handful of reviews will make a believer out of anyone on the performance as well. I have questioned and questioned whether I want to go TT or SC or do nothing at all because it is my daily driver and like Hotrodz (Bob) said for some this is their most expensive possession, and for me it is; so reliability is everything. That said, I am now torn because I am about to get my FI exhaust in the next few weeks (#896 Tony) and now have to ask myself if I should wait and just save for the kit and 3" exhaust etc. We now have more to talk about Tony, just FYI. :) This wasn't a discussion when we talked about my exhaust, but after all the videos, the FI TT thread and now this thread, it only seems like an obvious choice. Thanks Blake and Bob for posting the beautifully detailed reviews. They will go a long way, along with the other reviews I'm sure will follow, to helping FI and SpecialtyZ with their businesses; which will only mean more and better products/services from these great teams for years to come. My apologies if this is off topic. Now back to the reviews :tiphat: Brian |
RoyltyB I think you will be fine with the 2.5" exhaust system if you decide keep your order. As far reliability goes, its is a leap of faith in so many ways. Some engines just have inherent issues weather you mod it or not. I choose the FI kit based on Tony's reputation, his proven product record, and commitment to excellence. I had only one choice for the install and that was SpecialyZ. I have full confidence in their service and expertise. I know that they will be there for me if there was a system failure do to their products or services. They care way to much about their reputation to leave a customer hanging and if for no other reason, that is why I will stick with these two companies for all my engine modification needs. There are the best at what they do and that is about as good as it's going to get.
The bottom line is the best way to avoid engine failure is to be religious about maintenance and keep the abuse to a minimum. Good luck! |

Thank you for the feedback. We look forward to seeing you next month for the exhaust install. I am sure that we will have 1 if not 2 or 3 cars here for you to go for a ride in. Right now we are finishing up the GT28RS car w/E85 fuel. Don't know how far away you are but we will be on the dyno next week with that car and maybe another. If you like, you are more than welcome to come check it out. Thanks, Tony |

Anyone have this kits on AT yet ? I want to see some vid :)
|
cycy89 will be the first AT, they are just about started on his car as far as I know, so stay tuned!
The torque on this kit is going to require a hell of a stout autotrans....that will be a friggen insane ride when its out and "raping apes". |

A small glimpse at some of the additions I have made to the build. Should be fun! |

Faceglide you have no idea what you are getting into. I'm still smiling large. I just installed Zspeed undertray because the OEM tray will not stay button down, to much speed and turbulence :icon17:. I had it installed at my local shop because I didn't have the time to do it myself. Let's just say all work stopped for about ten minutes as all the mechanics had to check out Tony's and Dan's work of art. The four mechanics all commented on the fitment and how well the kit is designed. The fabricator was like "$***, that thing has some serious engineering behind it!!!" It was very cool, but the coolest part was when I took the service manager for a ride. He is a total rod guy and he was all smiles when we rolled out and head to old hwy 66. I mashed the pedal and he was like WOO!! and as spoon through 2nd and then it hooked up in 3rd, he said WOW and just started laughing. I turned around and headed back to the shop and his reaction was exactly the same as I put her through the paces again. He just looked at me grinning and said there is nothing like being thrown to the back of your seat. I said amen to that! :p

I hope it works out as i am seriously thinking about this kit on my 7AT. |
So I am officially driving my Z and I gotta say I love the way this kit feels. I gotta say thanks to Tony and everyone else at FI for making such a sick kit for the car guys. I'm gonna put some more miles on it and then I'll give you guys a full right up and some vids.
Tony I'll shoot you a call a little later this afternoon brotha. 639/551... (THE BOOST IS READING A PSI HIGH) actual 13.62 stock block http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...psbpogvs91.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...pshx6gspvo.jpg |

Looks like we have another to add to the FI finished builds list.

Don't take this as throwing stones. I'm sure it's a hell of a lot of fun to drive.
It's the torque that concerns me. It doesn't have to be showing any signs of running poorly to bend a rod. That's just a huge jump in torque. It really seems like the FI guys are pushing the envelope as far as stock block power, which is great until it isn't. It absolutely shows the potential of the kit, but the torque levels just seem much higher than I would feel comfortable with on a stock block. |

I purposely had my tq tuned down for longevity concerns. Will have to keep an eye on this thread to see how the motor holds up at these to levels.
|
I just think anyone running north of 600whp on the stock block forfeits the ability to say "X kit blew my motor" if it pops. The kit didn't kill your motor, the 600+whp did :rofl2:
I do think it's cool we've got a lot of guys who want to push things and find out where the limit is on the stock componants. That's what drives progress. |
Yep. Could not agree more Chuck. I know that I am only going to inch my way up to 14 psi slowly. I am putting together something built, but again slowly. I want this stock block to:
*last as long as possible(at least until the built block is on a stand somehweres), so I can get the greatest amount of data/fun out of it as possible *give us an idea where stock internals can go with appropriate fuel, tune, cooling and kit *identify at any point where VVEL shuts down this kit(it hasn't yet) *Be built into a barbecue or tablestand when it does pop..lol At the moment I know I am running at 10ish psi on the street, I have taken it to 11, but I will save that for later. Taking it slow is the only way to iron out any wrinkles, fix them and proceed. So far it has been smooth sailing, I have been kicking this car in the ***, it has been up to task. Oh yeah, I am sure alot of us guys on this kit are looking to redefine the stock vq37 name. It really is a force to be reckoned with. Only time will tell. I won't be too sad when/if this thing blows, a med comp med-hi boost 900hp build sounds like fun. |
Honestly at that power level you better hope it somehow just bends a rod and doesnt grenade. If it grenades you can say goodbye to the turbos as well as the block
I wont lie though, I would run 630rwhp if I had it:happydance: is that dyno above on pump 91? |

:tup:IF it blows, I wont be running 2860s:tup:
It's all for science! |
I love the fact that the main complaint/knock on this kit is "It just makes too damn much power". :rofl2:
|
These are awesome numbers for a TT engine with such low boost! Congrats!! RB engines with a huge single turbo are having to push 30+psi for similar power levels.
I would be starting to worry a little about these things turning into Dyno queens however. Is anyone managing to get this kind of power to the ground successfully? Having huge HP is fun but a little pointless when you will be destoyed in a straight line by something with awd and 400hp (read Evo, STI, GTR). I hope that we start to see more 0-60 and 1/4 mile times being worked on with the VQ engines at high HP. Now that we know that big HP is possible, someone needs to spend some time and $$$ figuring out how to make it more useable! |
why do i even read these threads with no money to spend? haha im addicted and dont even have boost!
|
|
Dirtyshoes, welcome to the FI TT team. Great numbers man :tiphat:
|
Whenever I read this thread, it's like the perfect dessert
at the end of a beautiful day! THE FORCE IS WITH YOU |
Heeey guys, I've had a whole lot going on and haven't been able to be on here as much as I'd like. But I'm about 2200 miles in and I gotta reiterate how badass this kit is. The drivability of it is so perfect it feels like a regular Z under normal driving conditions, gets in and out of spots without having to work hard, and the powerband is insane.
Tony I haven't forgot about you brotha, I'll call you soon. |
