Gtm supercharger stg 2 bpv stuck closed?

So last night I took my car out for a ride after about 3-4 weeks sitting in the driveway due to winter and noticed my bpv not blowing/ releasing any air. Looks like it got stuck closed and won't open at all. I wonder if it is from sitting and got stuck or maybe it's frozen due to cold weather?
Any ideas how to tackle this problem? Maybe taking apart the bpv , hopefully free it up and lubricate it?

TurboSmart Multi-Spray

I use this on my BOVs.

Nice find chuck but are the ingredients.? petroleum distillates ?

It doesn't specify. It's some "special formula".

Seems to work just fine on mine, but who knows. It might just be rebranded wd40. :rofl2:

+1, I use this on my bpv at least once a year. My bypass was stuck and this fixed my issue.

Do the bov end up with some sort of build up that requires some greasing?

i dont find this normal. ive had the hks ssqv on my supra for almost 12 years now, and never has it been stuck in the closed position. even after extended periods between startups.

Mine had some dirt in it that mixed with the grease that caused it to get stuck. This is mainly due to where the bpv is located. The open part of the bpv was facing directly toward the front of incoming air, but I have since turned it to the side to decrease the amount of dirt that enters the bpv. I'll find out in a few months if that helped.

Took the bpv apart today. It was pretty dirty so I freed it up, cleaned it and and lubed it up with little bit of wd 40. Looks like it done the trick for now. If it happens again I will buy the turbosmart multispray.

i agree, the BPV on my eclipse never got stuck and it was on the car for 14 years

Happens with mine a lot too. Sucks about the location, needing to take the fascia off each time. I ended up using sewing machine oil. A lot cheaper, and according to the Turbosmart website, should work.

I'm losing boost again, and its likely the bpv again. Yes, it really sucks to take off the front fascia every time. This time I'm shopping for another bpv that doesn't require as much maintenance. I have my sights set on a Tial unit.

Which bov did they send you with your kit? Mine was supposed to have Tial but they sent another brand. Go figure with gtm..

Did you specify Tial? Mine was always Turbosmart unless you wanted to pay for the upgrade.

Mkai0 03-19-2014 03:40 PM

I didn't specify which brand I wanted. In order to use the Tial BPV, I will have to weld on another flange. My shop here in Texas assured me the Tial unit with a supercharger specific spring (softer) will work much better and require a lot less maintenance. I called TurboSmart today and asked them if they had another BPV/BOV to help minimize the every 6 month cleaning, and they were not very helpful and basically said it is what it is. Long story short, I will never buy another Turbo Smart product. It makes me feel good that I sold the TurboSmart EBC that I had when I was going turbo. I'll update everyone and try and get some pictures when the new unit is installed.
