How much do you enjoy your boost in legal DD driving

So we all drool over all that hp, but I was wondering how much you get to use and enjoy all that power in normal driving (80s mph) without completely shattering the law recklessly?

For me, it depends on where I am and traffic.
Most days I am able to avoid traffic and have some good fun with it, Houston has some long on ramps where I can just run through the first couple gears for fun without much worry about doing anything illegal. Even if I get stuck in traffic the car still behaves very normally, just see my temps go up which can hurt performance (heat soak) if I romp on it right after that.

There are on-ramps on Toll Road 130 between Austin and San Antonio where a rolling 15-85 is perfectly legal.

Pretty much this. You can get up to speed much more quickly. And it helps when you need to pass someone, too.

Oh and it is fun to be driving and see people in there "cool" cars come up and try to race and be d1cks, then hear a BPV/BOV and then go over a few lanes. Had friends in the car and they just start laughing. :driving:

Yeah, when people hear a BOV from a car that wasn't boosted from the factory, they tend to back off. Especially ricers. The only thing better is opening up an external wastegate dumped to atmosphere next to them. Sometimes I regret plumbing mine back in on the Z. But then I remember how ******* loud those things are, especially on a DD.

Yeah, but then everyone will know to stay away.

Ummmm.... From almost all stop signs and all stop lights your first in line for. :happydance:

Just have to know when to let off before you are runnin like a banshee...which is about 2.5 seconds..lol..

Pretty much all of this. That's how mine is. Literally makes the car a crap ton louder.

OP, it isn't hard to enjoy the boost really. Anytime you need to pass or merge you can beat on it without breaking the law too much. Just need to be sensible...like no 2nd gear rolling burnouts Haha.

Also this may sound lame but little kids love the car. I always enjoy seeing a minivan or sedan pull up on my side on the highway and the parents slow a little to let their kids see the car. Then they are all smiles when you drop a gear and do a quick few second pull just to get them some noise.

I LOVED my big HP last ride - was a blast to drive. Being legal was quite easy - was extreme enough that there was no playing at lights required.... drag track was where I unleashed it. Made street driving spirited - but with nothing to prove.

OP, it's no different than driving a car that comes with a lot of power stock. There's times and places that you can open it up, and times you can't. It's worth doing to a DD. The times you can rip through a couple of gears at WOT make up for the vast majority of the time where you're putting along in traffic.

When I worked 2nd shift I had a blast every night going home. I used to take Santa Ana Canyon to the 91 east. I used to hit the onramp at 70mph and came out of it at a rate of fun...we'll just leave it at that. I have corners on my way home to my apt here in riverside that are really fun if you catch all of the green lights. Im sure that I have woken up people in their houses at midnight lol but I enjoy it every time it fires up. I am truly happy with my Z despite all of the imperfections that I fixed.:driving:

Others will tail-gate on a 2 lane road (4 and 5deep).... Boost gives me the power to pass, not as fast as the bike but I can get around them quick-safe. And it's a blast. I never look at other driver at stoplights. In Florida it's a "Speed Contest" high fine and/or Jail for the night.

brucelidat 09-26-2013 09:09 PM

I've found that here in socal, and in my driving, I rarely ever get to accelerate that hard and I rarely get to push very hard. The car is also pretty peppy and fun with the 4.08 gears installed. I might have to remove those if I SC and, though the car will have more power, it will go back to the laggy revving of the stock 7AT gears. Also, being 7AT, I'd have to be more gear conscious unless I do the stage 4 transmission which is a whole lot more cost and at the point might as well, go tt. That's a huge chunk of $$$ for brief moments of awesome acceleration upto legal speeds.

FireDan50 09-26-2013 09:42 PM

Yup, passing is fun....especially when their windows down and you have one loud open external waste gate screaming :).
