How much do you enjoy your boost in legal DD driving
So we all drool over all that hp, but I was wondering how much you get to use and enjoy all that power in normal driving (80s mph) without completely shattering the law recklessly?
|
For me, it depends on where I am and traffic.
Most days I am able to avoid traffic and have some good fun with it, Houston has some long on ramps where I can just run through the first couple gears for fun without much worry about doing anything illegal. Even if I get stuck in traffic the car still behaves very normally, just see my temps go up which can hurt performance (heat soak) if I romp on it right after that. |
There are on-ramps on Toll Road 130 between Austin and San Antonio where a rolling 15-85 is perfectly legal.

Yeah, but then everyone will know to stay away. |
Ummmm.... From almost all stop signs and all stop lights your first in line for. :happydance:
Just have to know when to let off before you are runnin like a banshee...which is about 2.5 seconds..lol.. |

OP, it isn't hard to enjoy the boost really. Anytime you need to pass or merge you can beat on it without breaking the law too much. Just need to be sensible...like no 2nd gear rolling burnouts Haha. Also this may sound lame but little kids love the car. I always enjoy seeing a minivan or sedan pull up on my side on the highway and the parents slow a little to let their kids see the car. Then they are all smiles when you drop a gear and do a quick few second pull just to get them some noise. |
I LOVED my big HP last ride - was a blast to drive. Being legal was quite easy - was extreme enough that there was no playing at lights required.... drag track was where I unleashed it. Made street driving spirited - but with nothing to prove.

OP, it's no different than driving a car that comes with a lot of power stock. There's times and places that you can open it up, and times you can't. It's worth doing to a DD. The times you can rip through a couple of gears at WOT make up for the vast majority of the time where you're putting along in traffic.

Others will tail-gate on a 2 lane road (4 and 5deep).... Boost gives me the power to pass, not as fast as the bike but I can get around them quick-safe. And it's a blast. I never look at other driver at stoplights. In Florida it's a "Speed Contest" high fine and/or Jail for the night.

I've found that here in socal, and in my driving, I rarely ever get to accelerate that hard and I rarely get to push very hard. The car is also pretty peppy and fun with the 4.08 gears installed. I might have to remove those if I SC and, though the car will have more power, it will go back to the laggy revving of the stock 7AT gears. Also, being 7AT, I'd have to be more gear conscious unless I do the stage 4 transmission which is a whole lot more cost and at the point might as well, go tt. That's a huge chunk of $$$ for brief moments of awesome acceleration upto legal speeds.

Yup, passing is fun....especially when their windows down and you have one loud open external waste gate screaming :).

LOL I miss having a turbo car with an external waste gate. The looks on peoples faces when it roars open.. especially when it's some dumb honda/mustang owner trying to be cool.
For me when I was living in southern california, in Irvine, where if it makes noise it's probably illegal.. I had to be very careful with my BOV and especially letting that waste gate open. There's always the right moments to enjoy it, though. Just be sane and logical about it and you'll still have a blast. Especially some spirited canyon runs. Love twisties :) |

I could get into plenty of trouble have a lot of fun when the Z was stock. After boosting it I can have the same kind of fun I just get there much faster, and with more noise.
Plus exotic car owners/drivers don't suspect a thing until it's too late. :stirthepot: |
In MA was tuff( Roads SUX) But was a blast :) Same as early, On and off ramps and fun when some tries to cut you off, Just a little gas an your gone, AHHAH

It is great, and there's plenty of power at half throttle when under boost. I honestly don't floor it that much unless it's to catch up with traffic after merging from a standstill.
There are times for some fun, but then I have to reflect on it and try to be more responsible, keep my nerves cool, and ignore provokers. I picked up a daily a couple of days ago, so it's not too much of an issue. So the Z is not a DD anymore. |
Here is a fun story for the day, just happened.
Was heading back to my office, needed over to the left lane to get onto major interstate (I10 by gessner for those in Houston). Truck was being a d1ck and not letting me over at all, kept speeding up if I sped up or slowed down. So I pushed the throttle a little and mister jacked up truck loses and I get over....glad to see his face get all upset in my side mirror. |

This is why we all need boost!!!!!!!!!:driving: |
If you are OCD like me, you wont hammer every time...
Its hard not to hit 3 digits in this car before you notice anything... This car is so well built that it masks speed quite well. Statute of Limitations: I once upon a time in a galaxy far far away called mexico, top ended the **** out of this car (on a closed private track of course) before FI, then after a hand full of times... the difference is staggering. This car wants to keep fking going!! (and it handles nicely up there too) I enjoy the power, but I like when i can take it easy and just enjoy what its capable of and just chill.... Im trying to think of engine health 20k, 30k, 40k ahead. I get into it on occasions though Rule of thumb, dont treat your expensive *** baby like a shitty rental car. But occasionally let it breathe... |
