Yeah, I'm going Stillen because of stupid CARB. Can't risk getting pulled over and having to worry about cops in CALI plus SMOG. Can't say what i may or maynot do to the kit though. Why can't GTM release a CARB kit yet.

Unfortunately, making changes to the kit means it's no longer CARB certified. Granted, they wouldn't really ever know, but by the letter of the law the kit is CARB certified as-is, not with any other tune, pullies, etc.

Most people who buy CARB kits are doing so not because they are completely law abiding citizens, it is because they don't want to get hassled. Call it the "leave me alone and let me have a little fun" tax.

The letter of the law says the speed limit is the speed limit and almost everyone crosses it everyday without a hit to their morals. That is how I feel about changing the pulley size on a CARB supercharger kit.

Chuck33079 06-25-2013 08:16 AM

Absolutely. There's really no way for them to know its not running the original pullies, or that its been custom tuned.

I guess then I never see that speed limit sign cuz I'm flying past it while the stillen guys think there a BAMF for going few miles over?? If ur gonna risk the chance of getting caught you might as well for broke. Reminds me of a funny story I read awhile back.

Spoken like a true South Floridian. Woe betide you if FL ever decides to cash in and jump on the vehicle inspection bandwagon!

I dread the day that happens here

im sure making fake CARB stickers is a federal offense or something crazy like that, but whats stopping people from doing that very thing? can the cop look up the CARB info in his car? and would he even know wth hes looking at?

It's definitely a state offense, I think the police can actually query a database of CARB certs.

I guess I'll actually answer OP's question.. 2+ years and ~15k miles on GTM Stg1 SC kit. 0 issues.

A cop could tell you your life story after 3 minutes on his laptop.

Great banter on the site but THANK YOU for answering my question. All this on a stock motor and transmission?

theDreamer 06-27-2013 07:37 AM

I would say yes he is, take a look at the finished builds thread. This is probably 15-20% of the actual finished boosted builds we know of. Most are still stock block & transmission.

http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...ed-builds.html

I don't know if you saw my post but, going on 40k miles boosted (60k total), DD with some twisty road runs in Texas now & again.

I hate this got derailed too, cuz I'm looking to go FI in next few months...and while none of the actual models here are what I'm looking for (TT), it's still a solid idea of what to expect down the road.

I wish there had been less "this vs that" and more "this is my experience".

If you are worried about violating emissions laws, you are a pussy.
