Clutch Recomendations?

So Iam driving to Biloxi tonight to hit a few casinos and while in 5th and rolling on the gas the rpm's surge at 4500.. My car only has 28k and has been babied so Iam kinda shocked it was slipping. The funny thing is when I finished my TT install and took it for a spin I thought it was breaking the tires away but now I know I was wrong.. ha.. Any thoughts on a clutch and flywheel combo???

SPOHN 04-12-2013 11:01 PM

Call Joe@ZSpeed ZSpeed Performance Nissan Infiniti Specialist 240SX 300ZX 350Z G35 G37 370Z tell him your setup and he'll match you the best clutch for your needs. Super great guy!!

Mr&Mrs 04-12-2013 11:17 PM

Go easy because if you keep slipping it, it will not work for long.

COSMO 04-12-2013 11:38 PM

It pulls like crazy at 85mph in 5th, well atleast until it starts to slip.. I found this one at gtm. Any thoughts on it? Kinda pricey..

+1 for Joe at Zspeed - there are different clutches for different applications... street, drag, track. Call Joe, tell him we sent you, he will HOOK you up.

You should do the CSC upgrade while your in there, if you don't that will be the next thing to go... 370Z Clutch Pressure (CSC) Failures

Sh0velMan 04-13-2013 12:31 AM

I'm planning on a twin plate OS Giken TR series for the billet aluminum pressure plate assembly... light is right!

+1 get the CSC done while your in there ,if you don't want to spend the money on a Twin Disc set up get a South Bend clutch I have the TZR one that is holding my power just fine.

Blackcrimzon 04-13-2013 04:25 AM

I went with the JWT clutch and flywheel and have been really happy with it. I do agree with the other it does depend on what your doing with the car. For everyday driving JWT works great.

Yea, it's the best. But I could never justify the price when Southbend clutches will hold just as fine for half the price.

Ron 04-13-2013 08:13 AM

I have a TT too. 503rwhp/406lbft tq and running a 6 puck Southbend. Feels like stock but a little stiffer and it has NO issue handling the power. I love it. Joe is your man, give him a call.

+1:tup: This clutch was awesome. Used it in a TT build here. It'll take a lot of people a little adjustment to be fully confident driving with it when its brand new and super grabby, but as someone who gets to drive a lot of clutches I LOVED the way that thing drove. It will DEFINITELY hold the power too.

Love OS Giken for their quality. If you can swing the price tag, it wont disappoint.

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

Iam now wondering if the csc might be leaking onto the clutch causing it to slip? Your right I will go ahead and replace everything while Iam in there. If only I had a lift to do the work.... Another thing is, Iam going to have to take off the 3' gtm downpipes to get the tranny out....!@#$%^&*()

Its a pretty easy job, but a lift definitely makes it better! Youll have it out and in on a Saturday .

Here are some pics I took of my clutch/CSC job I did a couple months ago, taking it out and putting back in it helps to have another person handy. Joe also recommended using Motul Gear 300 Trans fluid (manual 6 spd)

Good luck.

If you lived closer we could of done it. A lift is everything in this hobby. I know I will always be into cars. Thats why I bought one years ago. Never had an issue yet.

Osiris 04-13-2013 03:02 PM

yea the CSC is pretty much mandatory if your replacing your clutch. The stock one is primarily plastic! My Z is in the shop right now getting the OS Giken GT clutch and OS Giken Diff installed....along with the CSC.

roplusbee 04-13-2013 04:01 PM

I second the OS GIKEN TWIN DISK, but I run he Competition Clutch Twin Disk. And I am TT as well.

The one thing we all agree on is replacing the stock CSC, with the Z-Speed unit. Get SS braided lines while you are at it.

Osiris 04-13-2013 06:01 PM

So it's a good set up? I'm about to buy that same clutch set up with a new CSC.

Yes very good. I highly recommend it. The more I drove it and the clutch broke in the easier it was to drive. When u push in the clutch it sounds like a mans clutch bwahahaha

Thinking about this one but after I purchase a flywheel to along with it makes the price close to the os giken...

That's what I have and recommend it.

COSMO 04-15-2013 03:41 PM

Whats weird is Joe from zspeed told me I should go with another type that was easier to drive rather than that one... How does your drive and what weight flywheel did you go with?

I have a Jim Wolf flywheel my car is easy for me to drive I would think a puck would be harder to drive.

So would you recommend this Z1 kit or is this a personal opinion? Just curious because if it will handle, which if you have it on your car obviously it will, around 550hp and I'm guessing around 475wtq. If it will it'll save me almost $800.

Not trying to thread jack:hello::tup:

Yes I recommend the Zspeed TZR clutch kit ,its a good clutch for the price has a 650TQ.

Hotrodz 04-16-2013 08:59 PM

I'm going with Specialty Z's SZ 6 puck. It's the one they use with the FI turbo build! IMO first think about your end goal, then chose from those proven models which best meets your needs.

The best things about this forum is all the information. The most confusing thing about it is all the information! Good luck!

Alright before I order a clutch has anyone had any experience with Spec Clutches? Looking at the twin setup....

COSMO 05-02-2013 06:40 PM

After researching spec clutches I have found a lot of failed clutches. I've decided on TZR and 17lb flywheel with the upgraded csc... Thanks for all of the help and knowledge..

roplusbee 05-02-2013 07:00 PM

Spec.............don't do it. The Twin Disks suck bad and the singles are average at best for the Z. I have heard many horror stories involving Zs and Spec clutches from shops that have installed them.

COSMO 05-04-2013 10:02 PM

Hey thanks again for the input...

COSMO 05-23-2013 07:27 AM

I went with the TZR clutch and 19lbs southbend flywheel from joe btw.. What a cool guy to deal with.. Thanks again for the help guys...!!!!

Alstann 05-23-2013 09:19 AM

I just ordered a Stage 3 6-puck Southbend Drag clutch, with a Southbend 19lb race steel flywheel. From my research, and after talking to Joe@ZSpeed (great service, helped me pick options and spelled it out to me), it seemed like the best, reliable option. Gonna be doing an install and maybe trying to do a DIY for you fellas this coming week.

COSMO 05-23-2013 01:04 PM

That six puck is going to rattle your brain. I had one on my 350zTT and it wasn't an easy engagement....
