What's the difference between manifold turbo induction and intake turbos?

Someone please explain to me the difference between manifold turbo induction and intake turbos, (the one's mounted up on intakes, or up front)? My understanding is that intake turbos pull more air to push more air IN and push the emissions out faster throughout the system, and manifold turbos pull or force the emissions OUT faster to help the engine get rid of exhaust faster and pull in fresh air faster right? IDK, help!

Sorry, hope I didn't just go full retard:ughdance:

I tell you... I feel retarded reading what you wrote... I'm so confused...

What are you asking???

XwChriswX 01-21-2013 07:55 PM

In the first part of his question, it sounds like hes asking what the differences are between top mount or bottom mount turbos...

In the second part of his question it sounds like...

Are you asking about eBay electric turbos? Lol

Your post does not make any sense...hence no reply. I suggest you start with this:

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 08:08 PM

Sorry guys, I have a hard time explaining what I mean. But yes I'm asking what the difference is between a top or bottom mount turbo. The top mount pulls air in right? and the bottom mount helps push air out ?

Hope that's more understandable.

I was thinking that too, but I had no idea because of the second part

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 08:20 PM

So when you go turbo, it increases the amount of air fed to the cylinders, but that means the injectors need to be changed to bigger ones right? or does the air to fuel ratio not really change. And does that have any affect on the Z's compression ratio?

I apologize again, I'm always full of questions and Google isn't always the best place to find solid info. I like to learn

Oh I am trust me, i'm a walking book when it comes to cars. I'm just not familiar with turbos at all, thanks for the links guys! Oh and if anyone wants to know about new releases, or car news, I'm your man.

stevent85 01-21-2013 08:30 PM

Well he mentioned something about emissions.....so maybe hes talking about the sts turbo system as opposed to a regular turbo setup. Idk maybe.

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 08:35 PM

I'm done with all the links, they were all good! I only have one more question.Do you have to upgrade the injectors at all, to match the power increase or boost that the turbo makes?

Where the turbo is mounted doesn't really matter. It can even be mounted at the rear of the vehicle.
All FI is, by definition, pushing (forced) air into the engine (induction). To pull air through the engine would require a partial vacuum on the exhaust side - not very practical.

If you are referring to superchargers, they are usually mounted with one end toward the front of the engine so they can use the front drive belt for power.

I just lost some brain cells reading this thread

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 09:34 PM

I know what superchargers do haha, but i'm asking if you have to upgrade injectors along with turbos because of the increased air flow to the cylinders, or does the fuel to air ratio not change enough to have to upgrade injectors? :tiphat:

blackonorange 01-21-2013 09:40 PM

Yes you have to upgrade injectors and fuel pump

:iagree: more air, more fuel

gbrettin 01-21-2013 09:53 PM

It all depends how much horse power you make. stock injectors are good for about 500hp on the Z. The A/F is changed by getting a tune using Uprev.

not sure if that helps?

red6spd 01-21-2013 10:14 PM

What the hell did I just read. The one vid is comparing a SC and a TC?????

XwChriswX 01-21-2013 10:17 PM

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 10:39 PM

Thanks! Got my answer:happydance: Too bad there's not a way to get 390whp without supercharging or turbo, those make more than that, yet it seems too far out of reach for just bolt-on mods. 390whp seems like a good number though, not too much and not too little.

lemon-fresh 01-21-2013 10:53 PM

Any more details on why 390whp is "just right"?

G0DZ1LLA 01-21-2013 11:00 PM

Well from what I've heard the Z tends to be fast without feeling like it is, kinda sounds like the GT-R issue. I feel like 390whp would be enough for anyone to feel the kick or feeling of fast without breaking their neck. But that's just my opinion, how everyone else feels is valid too.:tiphat:

Who kept their stock injectors after goin fi? :s

clearly someone hasnt seen a stroker engine, iirc GTMs 4.5L stroker kit makes 490hp so that is about 380-400whp n/a

asdfsammich 01-22-2013 02:06 AM

Haha! Brilliant thread. All it needs now is an explanation of twin charging.

Tapatalk & such etc

I wish I could afford the GTM stroker:shakes head:

Hey, I like that new Fast Intentions turbo manifold prototype though:happydance:

Hmmmm I thought 500hp was the cut off point for stock... I will research this further and report back!

I've never heard of a z goin fi and keeping stock pump and injectors

This is not true the injectors and fuel pump must be upgraded when going F.I

Second that, I dumped a SC on mine and had to change pump/injectors.
