Get an uprev cable. If you can't get e85, switch tunes

Hotrodz 02-10-2015 10:46 PM

Yup, I would check with Seb on a low boost tune for 91 octane to bridge the gaps and plan well on gas stations that have it from LA to Texas. I would call them directly because the locator on the net are not all accurate. They show e85 here at the Terrible Hurst station and they have never had it....I went to the station and the owner said that many stations owner were going to jump in because of government incentives but back out when it didn't happen. So don't trust those sites just because they say so! :shakes head:

djtodd 02-10-2015 10:47 PM

This is why I fill all of our flex fuel cars up with e85 every time. Doing my part to show demand :)

Yea I wasn't questioning the kit or tune. Plenty of people pushing over 600 without problems. I know thats where I will want to go when it's my turn

Just curious if he was one of the people who asked to turn it up beyond that to find the stock rod limits

same here in Tucson, I know of at least 2 E85 stations that aren't operational at all. covered in graffiti and weeds in the front

thankfully we have a few that keep a fresh supply

Since then I have been driving mainly city and occasional freeway, and it burns realllllly quick. Last time I checked I probably got like 185 maybe 200 miles from a full tank from just mainly city driving. I'll definitely start keeping track to get a better gauge.

Also, I'm still breaking in my engine that Sebastian built for me. I think I was the first Z with the F.I. TT kit to bend two rods on the dyno lol. So far the kit is great, just waiting to get to that 1500 mile break in mark so I can really romp on it.

Where did you get your 1500 mile mark from? Just curious as to the data or theory behind this. Im planning on turning mine up and I only have 250 miles on my built shortblock.

KevinN 02-11-2015 07:09 AM

When I went to Sebastian, I did not ask to go above and beyond than what was already achieved. I specifically asked to stay within the numbers that were previously obtained by previous customers of F.I. and SZ.

Back in August, when the install was done, Seb was tuning my car on e85, and it bent two rods. How that happened, I have no idea. I guess it was bad luck. It broke at 588 hp and 581 tq.

Nothing I can do about that, except replace the parts. Seb helped me out and decided to do an upgrade to the engine. CP pistons at 11:1, Carillo Rods, and Juke head bolts.

After several months, the vehicle was up and running thanks to Seb. The final numbers on 13 psi was 568 hp 538 tq.

I am also running the SS Zele exhaust, which has a pretty restrictive design (Ill upload a pic of the exhaust if you guys are interested). Still debating if I want to go to Tony to get a custom exhaust for my Zele rear bumper. I'm in love with the way it sounds currently. Definitely does not sound like your typical boosted Z.

As for the 1500 mile break in period. I am just following the directions of Seb. He wanted to go through at least two oil changes using conventional oil before switching to a synthetic at 1500 miles.

Once the break in procedure is in place, and I get better tires, I'll give a more in depth review in the future.

Props to Seb for helping you with the rebuild. Sticking to 11:1 compression is also balsy :)

We've made as much as 590 RWT (faceglide) and 588 RWT (djtodd). A year later on both and still holding together just fine... on full boost I might add!

The 11:1 ratio on the built motor is very smart as long as you are sticking with E85. When Kevin decides to go with our exhaust, we can turn the boost up and really see what we can do!

Thanks.
-Tony

Just wanted to chime in here and say how awesome this kit was to install! Hopefully ill get to write a review on here shortly with some detailed experiences.

Hey man... We are willing to test the limits of what this engine can handle. I'm willing to take it to 700 RWH to see if it can take It and if it does, for how long!

Fun stuff!

-Tony

faceglide 02-11-2015 02:14 PM

Still running strong.

However, seb will be building something fancy for me, lets just say I do not feel like trying to push 1000hp on the stock block. =D

what are you waiting for? its a turn of the boost controller knob away :)

djtodd 02-11-2015 02:45 PM

A customer willing to sacrifice an engine I would guess...

Give me another year or so and I am willing to turn mine up.

See you soon Tony. 600WHP here I come!

No, no, no, that's not how we roll! We have a few candidates that will attempt this on their own. We also have a stock replacement long block on standby in the event something happens.

-Tony

djtodd 02-11-2015 03:03 PM

Well that's sort of what I meant. Not implying that you'd leave someone hanging, but that if you wanted to push 700,
One would seriously need to be prepared to replace/rebuild in the event it let go.

Is it dyno time yet?! :excited:

It's that excite nervous feeling...every dyno run I've ever done I sit there and think is this the time:ugh:

Rusty 02-12-2015 01:45 PM

My experience. An engine runs it's best just before it blows. :shakes head:  Been there, done that. :shakes head:

reldas 02-27-2015 11:28 AM

any chance you plan on selling the Excedy Clutch Packs and the new Flex plate you made for the 7AT separately?

Drag strip probably. Might get r888 for road course. I got them used for an awesome deal. Free. Lol

those are $600 each new now I do hate you.

i'm curious how well those will work being a hard compound vs something like a mickey Thompson drag radial using a softer compound?

cycy89 03-11-2015 02:11 PM

Not sure how drag radials work since I don't drag race.

simple tread design with soft sticky compounds used.

im guessing to get those Pirellis sticky you'll need a very nice burnout in the box before setting up on the line. EDIT: I read the specs and they seem to be at opt working temp at 50 degrees? that's pretty low. could be good

I mean you could always hand me the keys and i'll set you a very solid ET :stirthepot:

I don't have boost but I have 4 summers now of drag racing with my 7AT so if you want any pointers i'm always available to help as well :tiphat:

probably have easily 100+ runs in my Z so far even got a 2nd from import faceoff as well/ sadly on the #8 spot on the fastest ET list. damn tires but it's sub 13 so not bad N/A with just intake, exhaust, tune.
