Safety concerns regarding rear mounted turbos?
Hi forum!
I was wondering if there are any safety concerns with a rear mounted turbo? In the Z with this type of setup, the turbo is positioned right underneath the gas tank. Do you guys see any potential hazardous issues with this setup? What would happen if you get rear ended and the gas tank is punctured? Wouldn't the gasoline ignite if it touches the super heated turbo? Are we talking about a Ford Pinto scenario here? Would you instanteneously explode? Do people with this setup always look at the rear view mirror for fear of sudden death? |
fabio can answer that

LMAO @ LAKESHOW
Cosssie: Who's fabio? |
Lol.
All have possible safety issues, some more than others but yes I think the rear mounts r the most dangerous out of all of them. |
Pm tower74, blackandorange, or chinook. those are the 3 i know of running the sts setup. i think they are all doin alright. tuning seems to be the most difficult part with these kits

What are your questions I have a rear mount turbo setup.
|
OP , you watch to many movies.
|
Gas Tanks don't explode if they catch fire, they flame up long before there is.any chance of an explosion. So its no worse then a front mounted turbo with the fuel lines breaking and catching fire in the engine bay.

My only concern would be running long oil lines to the turbos. But it's probably not that big of a deal.
|
Word, it's not a big deal at all my kit has worked flawlessly for over 10,000 k
|
Right! But i am not talking about the durability of the kit itself but what would happen if you get rear ended with this type of setup.

You'll be fine as long as you don't store explosives in your fuel tank.

gas tank is in front of the rear axle, the turbos would be behind it.

You're just blind to the fact that it's a death trap! You're going to kill yourself, everyone you love, a car full of underprivileged illegal aliens who were working 3 jobs just to send money back home to feed their family, and at least 6 polar bears, if you even think of driving that thing. Plus, think of the children! |
LOL You have to consider collateral damage should you get rear ended for sure. :ugh2:

what if you run into the back of someone and the fuel rails break and the turbos explode and a time travel portal opens and your car suddenly has a flux capacitor and you fly back to the future. man anything can happen. youll be fine with the rear mount. also the turbos do not get as hot back there as the do in the front. Id be willing to bet you can get the turbo all spooled up and dump gas right on it and it wouldnt set fire. it would prolly cool it down lol
