Congrats! Can't wait to see and hear it running! Very clean install.

They were adding fluids today and the goal tomorrow is to break the SC in on the dyno and then do some full power pulls. Kenny is going to do a road shake down and I hope to take it home for some fun.

Thanks everyone. I hope to have more pictures and video soon.

Ok I got the car back last night. However, due to extremely high temperatures (110+ F) on the dyno, I am driving on a conservative tune. The tune is running rich on the top end and no amount of cooling was going to help indoors with that amount of ambient heat. Unfortunately, I live right in the middle of the infamous 2011 static high pressure system over Texas. The good news is I am going back early Saturday morning for the final tune on the dyno plus a picture/video session.

The 370Z was easily the most powerful car I have owned. So to me it was like one of the big dogs on the street. After the GTM Stage 1 Supercharger, it is like the big dog wielding a beat down stick. All I can say is WOW and this is on a conservative tune. I have not had a lot of time to drive it, but I can say it is impressive. Score for Jotech on the install and for GTM for the kit.

I was very concerned about an increase in cabin noise. I knew there would be a trade off somewhere. However, the Rotrex is extremely quiet. I can hear it but it is certainly not obtrusive in the cabin. Also, I can hear the pressure relief valve but that is quiet too. Surprisingly, I am really happy with the Motordyne ART test pipes with the NISMO exhaust. I honestly cannot tell that much difference in sound in the cabin and I know they will quiet down even more after the break in of the ART pipes. I have not detected a fuel smell either, but then again, I have only put about 30 miles on the car since going FI. Overall, I am very happy and impressed.

The only thing I am somewhat concerned about is the oil temperature. Prior to the oil cooler, my car had gone into limp mode twice when the outside temperatures were well in excess of 105 F. In stop and go traffic the oil temperature was creeping up near 240 on the drive home from Jotech. I sure hope this is just another result of the record heat this summer and not a symptom of some underlying problem.

Final parts list:
  • 3,450 miles on the odometer
  • GTM Stage 1 SC Turn Key kit
  • GTM 25R Thermostatic Oil Cooler
  • Motordyne ART test pipes
  • Eneos oil change
  • Red Line MT fluid change
  • Red Line Differential fluid change

Congrats! Everything looks very clean - car and install! My car is in Houston, and the install is nearly complete. Next up is the little [tedious] things like gauges and rear camber. I guess it's almost as hot. At home in KS, it's going to be 100+ as well. [sigh]

Is upgrading to a 34 row oil cooler possible with this setup?

How many rows does the oil cooler you are using have? I am worried about you still seeing those high temperatures.

Looks to be a 25R.
Same as I have, been running the stage 1 for over a year. Oil temps stay under 220 during daily driving situations, even sitting in stop & go traffic.

I have the 25R from GTM designed to work in conjunction with their SC kit. I do not think I can upgrade to the 34R but I am not certain on that. Last night I was driving light~light in heavy traffic and watched the temps creep from 220 up to about 240. I was shifting under 4k and had the AC full blast.

I have gone into limp mode 2x before this project. The first was Austin to Plano averaging 75-80 when traffic allowed and I was 260+ in 105+ heat. I definitely felt a large loss of power. The second time was Bedford to Plano in 110+ heat and I saw 260+ on the gauge. Before the cooler, 220-240 was typical for my daily commute. I was planning on an oil cooler before I started the SC project.

I thought adding the 25R cooler would help substantially but I have not driven enough to tell for sure yet. It has been an unusual summer where I live with the intense heat.

I feel you on the heat, Houston is above 100 everyday but my temp gauge is 108-115 while driving from the amount of heat on the roads. I would say my oil usually does not jump up that much thankfully but my intake temps can go from 5 above ambient to 140 very quickly.

Another great build with an awesome Kit.

weiboy718 08-18-2011 11:54 AM

Adding a GTM oil pan spacer may help with cooling the oil also
