That just means you need to keep your RPMs up the when running 20Gs if you plan on playing with folks. That gives you a good means to stay out of boost when you are attempting to be fuel conscious as well. Gotta hunt for the good stuff.

To me, it would seem like LAG would be overrated in a Greddy Twin Turbo kit considering that the 370Z has a high compression engine. Granted that the GTM Turbo kit would spool faster(ball bearing vs journal bearing).
My main question would be.....the fitment issues between the two turbo kits? Which one got hotter during aggressive driving? |
Journal bearings aren't really the problem, that hardly effects the spool on small/mid turbos. The 20g are pretty large, and capable of over 900rwhp... That's probably where the extra lag is coming from. However, I would NOT call it laggy at all. Just driving spirited around town they spin right the hell up sometimes easier than I really wanted the power to come on. Part throttling around you can consistently feel them pushing air and increasing power before even going into positive manifold pressure. In terms of full throttle, both setups are well into full boost below racing rpms.

Pretty soon, I will be able to post up my build in the finished builds thread...........Woohoo! Then I will be able to comment on the lag (or lack of lag) situation.
|
dont worry its definitely a "lack of"! lol... every turbo car has a boost transition period, these turbos are still welllllllll on the good side of "laggy".
who are you going to have tune your car? |
I inquired about the greddy tt set-up from forged performance but being as I have a g37 to modify the kit to fit my car (jus a lil longer piping) would've cost me almost what the GTM kit would've cost, I had a nice laugh. I'm opting for the GTM kit

there is ZERO moding a greddy kit 370z to your G, trust me I have it on my G37

Reason is I ask is that I am going Stage 2 SC and power should be comparable to a Turbo |

As Phunk alluded to, I am not concerned if a turbo is ball bearing or journal bearing. The theoretical improvements on the bench often exceed real world results by a good margin. Ironically, I've seen more issues with oil draining, oil supply and smokey turbos with BB turbos vs. journal and have yet to have an original Greddy turbo fail. We have seen issues when the original Greddy turbos are upgraded after the fact, so we suggest sticking to the 20G unmodified turbo. Anywhere from 400-750whp is acheivable on the same turbo. Couple examples...this one is an automatic trans at just 6psi http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/a...werandtrq1.jpg 370Z at 5psi http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/a...erandboost.jpg |
