Don't forget the added drag of the supercharger.

^^^ As far as I know, we're talking about Turbos, not superchargers... Superchargers have one place only... DRAG RACING! :D

I'd LOVE to see a twin root-style blower setup on a 370z! That'd rock socks.

Well actually a properly set up motor and turbo combination would rule the strip. Not only can you make excellent torque down at like 1200 rpm but you also have the "free horsepower" rule of turbo charging. If it comes down to it and I really want boost then maybe I'll get the vortec, but my celica is faster than that by far anywho.

Crash 12-27-2008 09:24 PM

All of the track records are held by supercharged cars. :D Drag cars are usually alcohol+supercharged.

This is true but someone needs to pioneer out there in the drag community because if they used the same engine, fuel and compression ratio, I can almost see it now, a turbo car out performed a supercharged car. Someone just needs to get the motor set up with the properly sized turbos and boost levels and tune it really well and I bet we can see at least some higher trap speeds.

Depends on the class. BIG twin turbos, alcohol, and 2500-3000whp. :)

Yeah I love it.

Crash 12-31-2008 08:09 PM

Yeah, in the end, a turbo can easily push more power trim for trim. Superchargers spin around 50-80K RPM, but turbos spin between 100-200K Rpm.

I love this video TT grand national smoking the tires on the dyno so who really know's the amount of power this can really make.

Crash 12-31-2008 08:14 PM

^^^ Yeah, I saw that video. I'm pretty sure that car broke the dyno.

18rgcelica73 12-31-2008 08:16 PM

I saw this video about 2 years ago and still can't stop thinking about the thrill ride that thing must be.

Crash 12-31-2008 08:18 PM

Yeah, turbos are so fun... Especially if you don't spool and you let the motor catch the boost! :D I love when I put my foot down and half a second into acceleration the boost hits and you just get kicked back into the seat.

I'll be turboing the Z when I get it. I want 430-500 to the ground. :)

18rgcelica73 12-31-2008 08:35 PM

How do you get away with turboing a z car without them being smog legal? I am just curious cuz I really want to turbo mine. Well I am going to school to be a smog technician so I guess I could exploit myself a little.

shumby 12-31-2008 08:37 PM

it will not be smog legal.
