AAM Competition : Double Z34 Twin Turbo Build

Hey all,

Just wanted to share a twin turbo build going on simultaneously here at our shop. These two Zs are here from one customer, both getting the Greddy 20G Twin Turbo treatment. The build is ongoing, so I'll be back often with updates. Here's the first batch of pictures:

damn i thought I'd seen Jon's car there.

I was wondering, did you discuss with your customer about the different TT kit options he had? I wanted to know why he chose Greddy over GTM considering they cost about the same. Or was it because he doesn't know about GTM? From what I read, on one of the threads here comparing GTM and Greddy, the GTM kit is better. So, why Greddy and not GTM?

I am not trying to start a Greddy vs GTM war here, I was just wondering what some people's opinions and thoughts were by choosing Greddy over GTM.

It's hard to say if one kit is outright better than the other, as both Greddy and GTM make great Twin Turbo packages. The Greddy 20G Kit is great right off the shelf, and we've had good experiences with it in the past with VQ35DE and HR engines. We haven't had as much experience with GTM kits, but based on what we've seen, it looks like their product is very well made and capable of supporting huge amounts of power, just like Greddy's. With that being said, yes, the customer was aware of the other forced induction options on the market, but decided for his vehicles, the Greddy Twin Turbo kit would be the best alternative.

At our shop, we don't bash one brand's product versus another, but offer our advice while encouraging the customer to do independent research to make an informed decision. Ultimately, it's all about making them happy with the products they want on their car. Whether it be our own product line, GTM, HKS or Greddy, we're in the business of building cars the way customers envision it.

Hope this helps.

Because Mitsubishi has its hands on EVERYTHING. There are probably a dozen items in your home that are made by, or have parts in them made by Mitsubishi. Thats why it can afford to stay in buisness when it hardly sells any cars.

christian370z 12-07-2010 07:41 PM

Yep, they are a heavy industrial company which also manufactures many OEM turbos for Saab (I had a TD04 15t on my old Saab at one point) and obviously on cars like the Mitsubishi Evo.

roplusbee 12-07-2010 07:42 PM

Wow. 2 TT Zs? I will be happy when my one gets boosted.................

daisuke149 12-07-2010 08:08 PM

You should be happy that at Mike's we had 5-6 Human shields :-D

haha that was a great moment.

Correct, the turbos are made by MHI, Mitsubishi heavy industries. Even though it's called Mitsubishi as well, it's a different company then the one that makes the cars, that's MMC, mitsubishi motor corporation. MHI also supplies the turbos for the BMW 335i, Porsche Panamera, Cayenne, Nissan Juke and many others. But they are less active in the aftermarket so therefore not as well known as Garrett or Borg Warner turbos.

This speaks volumes about how to respond on the net and how to conduct yourself as a professional. Very classy.

These projects are going to ROCK!.

IF if had 2 370z's, I'd would've done 1 tt, 1 sc, but I don't have two... *sad face emoticon*

Looking good!!

Glad to see some more builds!

Endgame 12-09-2010 03:42 PM

WOW. I need to stay out of these theads. I told myself I would keep the Z simple. Now I want a turbo. Honestly, I think I could sell my wife on a GTR over a turbo....

xbigb4ller69z 12-09-2010 04:00 PM

looking good! Im sure the owners are going to love their new transformed cars... I know i am!

Jon@AAMComp 12-14-2010 12:34 PM

Getting a bit closer to wrapping these things up. The dashes have to come out to custom install Defi gauges in the factory locations. After that, the cars should be ready to load up on our dyno for the tuning! I'll be sure to have videos of that once we do the dyno tune.

On to pics!

How much trouble was it to get the Defi's in there?

It was a pain. With the 350Z is a lot easier. Installing/Wiring these is a pain. The whole dash has to come out. But the end result is clean, almost like factory.

theDreamer 12-21-2010 04:49 PM

So 20 minute job? :p
A lot of work, but the results look great.

CBRich 12-21-2010 05:26 PM

Those defi gauges are beautiful.

Vegitto-kun 12-21-2010 06:48 PM

I love those gauges.

I want this so bad though the gauges are too costly in terms of work and time :p

damn "no tuning' law here

Brazilbro 12-21-2010 08:57 PM

good lord.. If I've ever seen a pic say a thousand words that one was it!:bowrofl:

Dembflyr 12-21-2010 10:58 PM

That looks like a scene from a horror movie.

christian370z 12-21-2010 11:17 PM

The gauges are beautiful, but my god do those brushed bezels really set them off!
