My Stillen super charger story....

I will try to keep my review fair and to the point. Keep in mind i am not a professional driver and i don't have any track experience. so the point of view is that of your average joe daily driver with a led foot and past speeding tickets to show for it!

So my setup is as follows: Stillen super charger, high flow cats, cat back exhaust, and racing oil cooler. *Obviously the oil cooler has no impact on performance; just cooling. I should also note that i originally started out with the silver (lower psi) pulley and above config minus the high flow cats. Without the HFC, the car had more noticable power, however, I did not feel the added power until i hit 5500 rpm and above....at that point the car took off. I was told by more than one person that it was very quiet for a super charger.

In come the High Flow Cats; with this addition alone, it was like someone took the cork out of the bottle. Not a major power increase, but enough of a change to notice. The car flowed better from 1st to 2nd to 3rd primarily in the below 5500rpm range. At this stage the car had been tuned by Horsepower Logic in West Palm Beach and was pulling 343WHP on a Mustang dyno.

Next change was the original pulley (higher psi). With this addition, Horsepower Logic did a re-tune and now the car is pulling 390WHP on the Mustang dyno (see below). The power comes on in direct correlation to the throttle position. And i have to say, with the addition of the high flow cats, the car now has a distinct sound on the outside. Before, people were saying they didn't really hear much from it. Now it sings!

I know some of you will ask, so, i use 93 octane, and according to Horsepower Logic the car is running at approx 9.5 psi. This is my first car review, so i apologize for anything i left out; let me know if there are any questions. Here is the dyno:

*i'm sorry, but i don't have a pre-super charger dyno

Well all sounds good. Now I am unsure what you ment but just to make sure I understand you felt the power difference after you had a custom tune? Also can you comment on the stillen tune such as driveabilty, starting, and psi it was pushing while on the stillen tune. Thanks for your review I love reading truthfull ones where we get accurate info. +1 rep for your time providing info to the community

What did you do different that RCZ did?!?!? Thanks for spending the time to give us your honest op.

Osiris 11-11-2010 11:01 PM

Well, let's just say the Stillen provided ecu tunes aren't worth mentioning :icon17: All i can really say about them is i had to wait for the 7th or 8th tune before the car was driveable. At that point i drove the car to Horsepower Logic  So yes, my car is custom tuned. And by the way, it was custom tuned by Horsepower Logic, the same place RCZ had his tuned. The only difference between his car and mine is that he has headers whereas i have stock headers. I did communicate with RCZ and confirmed his setup.

+1 rep to you sir! Nice short post, straight to the point and data to show the results. Perfect example of how information should be relayed to the community:tup:

your power is right on spot dude! congrats!

RCZ 11-12-2010 12:29 AM

Big congrats again buddy, for comparison last time I dynoed there with full bolt ons I made 290somethinh I think. You made the same power I did on that dyno.

jnaut 11-12-2010 10:11 AM

very very nice!!

weiboy718 11-12-2010 10:58 AM

I'm jealous now, I need to get a custom tune already! Screw the CARB and warranty!

wishihadnav 11-12-2010 10:59 AM

great review thanks!.

HP Logic 11-12-2010 11:26 AM

Thank you for the review Matt!

...As already stated...these cars respond very well to the Stillen SC kit and with a little dyno time they shine!!!...I will say that running a MINIMUM of 93octane for these cars is IMPERATIVE. You will never get the benefits of boost without high quality fuel. That being said this kit performs very well and feels fantastic!!...highly recommended (for those on the fence)....and as long as you can get it on the dyno for a proper tuning session you will have no regrets!

you will not be dissapointed with Jack and his tuning abilities!

Uh, yah! I'm surprised you haven't gotten a custom tune yet! But for those of you with the kit in Florida, take the drive over to West Palm and have Jack tune it.

Anyone know what gas station(s) sell higher than 93 octane?

well, I'm looking around for a tuner already and there's only 2 uprev tuner in my area.1 of them is super busy where he doesn't even pick his phone lol. the other one just went on a vacation and be back on Monday. Wondering if your tuner can get me a base map?

Osiris 11-12-2010 12:42 PM

Send Jack a PM, he knows a lot about this kit. Nissan 370Z Forum - View Profile: HP Logic

Good work HP logic! Curious in WA state we only have 92, when i go FI should i use something to boost the octane, or just tune for the 92 in my area? Also is anyone looking into direct meth injection yet? I remember dannygt talking about it..

weiboy718 11-12-2010 04:15 PM

JUst sent him a message, not sure if he can actually help me out since I'm thousands of miles away lol

wishihadnav 11-12-2010 04:22 PM

im a little curious how RCZ got 455whp and you ended up with 390...dont you two have similar mods and tuning done at the same place?

that 455 was redyno somewhere else I believe and on a dynojet.

Nitex 11-12-2010 05:06 PM

^^ correct, he already stated in this thread that 390 is what he made on the same dyno. I find that interesting though because RCZ has headers.

wishihadnav 11-12-2010 05:41 PM

ok cool..so RCZ basically made the same on this dyno..gotcha thanks..

RCZ 11-12-2010 08:21 PM

yup, except I made my 390 at 8.5 psi in 100 degree weather and he made 390 at 9.5psi in 70-80 deg weather. Makes you wonder how much the extra flow from the headers translates to hp wise eh? Now that its cold and my car goes over 9psi, id like to go redyno at hp logic. I guess with this size blower you can really make use of a more free flowing exhaust. Maybe test pipes in my future. Wonder how LTH's would behave.

Don't forget I also have lighter pulleys, lighter flywheel. Those free up some power too.

Not so my friend, but to buy 101 octane you will pay ~$8.45 a gallon.

TRICK Performance Unleaded

At Google Maps

The pump is on the South side, closest to the building but facing the street.

Good luck!

Nitex 11-13-2010 10:56 AM

^ yeah, i know a few places i can get 101 at. A race fuel map will do the trick.. I just miss the 93 i was able to get in texas!

Osiris 11-13-2010 12:45 PM

Do you just mix in the 101 octane with what's left in the tank? Seems there would be a little mixture going on unless you drained the tank manually.

MMC Racing 11-13-2010 02:43 PM

Forget thinking about having to mix 100+ unleaded in to every tank and consider an E85 conversion if you have that readily available in your area.

1slow370 11-13-2010 04:54 PM

guys Sherwin williams $35 dollars gets you 5 gallons of toluene or toluol w/e you feel like calling it.

2fast4thelaw 11-14-2010 12:00 PM

How would you convert to E-85? I can get E-85 pretty easily here but our crappy 91 octane oxygenated prem gasoline here is all I can get.

For most modern cars, upgraded fuel pump and injectors + tuning for it.

2fast4thelaw 11-15-2010 10:34 AM

From what I have read E-85 is like 105 octane.

Does anyone think that z1 motorsports can tune to this supercharger as good as the other. Its alot closer to me than florida and I can trailer my car there straight after the install. I dont really want to mess with preprogrammed tunes. I would prefer to install the FI and then take the car somewhere and have it tuned properly instead of dealing with headaches and downtime. Im not concerned about the warranty. The other threads sound like pissing contest. This one sound intelligent. Thank you in advance :tiphat:

Osiris 11-16-2010 08:33 AM

I'm not familiar with z1; all i can suggest is you give them a call and see if they use the Uprev software and if they've had any experience with this kit.

Z1 has built a number of forced induction 370zs, both supercharged and twin turbo'ed so they have plenty of experience when it comes to tuning and dialing in a FI'ed Z.

Chris_1 11-16-2010 12:58 PM

The targa 370 has been tuned their and they installed that kit in 2 days to be ready for Sema. I keep in contact with the owner and he says the car is running amazing.

Josh@STILLEN 11-16-2010 01:02 PM

Actually the targa 370 was using the STILLEN R8 tune as they didn't have time, and drove 4,200 miles in a week back and forth from SEMA without an inkling of a hiccup, and nothing but awesome things to say.

It's back at Z1 now getting tuned for 93 octane, but haven't heard where they are at with that.

short answer.. yes.. they can definitely do this kit for you with tune.

HP Logic 11-17-2010 09:31 AM

If they are working with Stillen I am sure the car can be tuned properly...The network of tuners working with Stillen is very close and TOP notch....
