This car isnt yours and I could care-less what YOU would have done. A shop can never assume a client will baby his car back and I for one am glad they took the time to explain that it may be reaching the limits of the stock A/T. Smart move and proved to hold true considering how this mad man drove back. He can do the upgrades later and reflash remotely. Not as big of a deal as your making it out to be. Shumby - I'm glad YOU got what YOU wanted out of this car. Not only is this a testament to the potential of this setup but also cements the claims by GTM. Especially for us 8psi - M/T guys. |
So is this the 8psi pulley?
Congrats Shumby! Glad your car is safely back home and youre happy with the way things turned out. |
no it is the 6 PSI pully
|
so I hear that the tranny might not hold up on 8 psi but again isnt this the same tranny that the infiniti m56 (or whatever it is) has and that handles like 350 TQ stock, so why would we need converters and all? Right now after hearing what Stillen wanted for theirs and now the ATs not being able to do 8 psi cuz of tranny failure I might have to rethink this. If I spend this kind of money I want over 400 whp but I want it safely. I guess I will have to wait and see how others are doing.

HOld on here no one said it was not safe. It has not been tested so I was not comfotable with it. I will be moving up to the 8 PSI pully but i want to make sure. I always play things a bit on the safe time. I am not really in a hurry to get my car 100% where i want it. ( don't thtink it will ever be there to tell you the truth). This gives me time to hammer on the tranny a bit and if nothing happens bad i am going to go to the 8 PSI pully. Do not let the fact that I am going with only 6 PSI stop you from getting this. I am just a bit more slow to jump into things then most. plus I am awa alot and don't want my wife dealing with any issues with the car no matter how small. (cuz she gets really mad).

you know i did not really calcul;ate it. i just drove home as fast as i could. plus my fule sending unit was bad and miss reading yet again. (got replaced today at the dealer) so i could not even really tell what my real fule level was
|
Isnt someone driving around with a TT and 450whp on a 7AT no problem. I think you will be fine Shumby.
|
I think i will be too. but i want to wait to get my trany goodies first then go with my smaller pully.
|
I thought Z1 Motorsports did a TT with 7AT Z with 456whp?
|
Glad you and your car are safely home.

First of all, it's not the psi that matters, it's the torque that kills driveline components. Not only that but it also depends on how the person drives, supporting mods (cooling, vb upgrade, etc.) as well as how the power is delivered (instant power from a roots type blower vs a big laggy turbo). There are way too many variables here to decide how much a tranny will handle and at which psi level it will blow. Sam simply played it safe and installed a 6PSI pulley. Not only for the tranny but probably also because Shumby will be driving nonstop for a full day with a car that now has 130+ more whp. Want more power? swap the pullies. It's a 20min job.
Also, the 5AT and 7AT trannies should be able to handle more than 400whp WITH supporting mods no problem. I don't know if you guys visit the G forums but there's been numerous G35 HR's and G37's with TT kits that are auto pushing 450whp and more. If it wasn't safe for those guys (some of which have been daily driving their cars for YEARS now), you'd be hearing tranny horror stories all over the forums. Not to mention Sam would not be pushing the AT's anywhere near 400whp. |
