That's probably how Ford justified their tank location.
On the corvette forum a guy took measurements of his header temps 900F at idle, 1300 under load... Autoignition is at 999F for methane so it definitely could catch fire if poured on the header of a car being driven hard. Which is probably would have been if you just rear ended someone.
