BP turbo build/advice

Hey guys, as the title says I am soon to be a proud owner of a Boosted Performance kit. I got the V 2.0 with the Ball Bearing upgrade. I am really excited and am looking forward to getting it up and running. I do need to square a few more parts away, but first I will post what I have done:

Car: 2008 g37s coupe six speed.
Intake/Exhaust Mods: Stillen cold air, Moterdyne Intake, Stillen headers, Stillen hHFC, Ark GrIP Exhaust
Drive Line Mods: South-Bend Fly Wheel and Cutch, Carbon fiber Drive-Shaft, 3.93 gears.
Cooling Mods: CSF Triple Pass Radiator, Stillen Oil Cooler
Suspension Mods: Ark Coilovers, Rays G’2 19 Inch
Tuning Mods: Up-Rev

What I would like to get and install with the kit is a close to feel to my current clutch that would handle the power, gauges and Boost controller. Looking For some advice on these mod’s. I will update when things start happening, but it wont be for a month or two. I will also try to get some pictures up but at the moment the file size is a little to big. This is what im thinking for these three parts.

Clutch: Twin disk for more tq holding and ability to get a firm but not two firm peddle.
Gauges: This I am not sure on, what do you guys suggest?
BC: Gready EC, I saw one for sale for 500 shipped.

Also my goals are 500-550 HP and 400-450 TQ, it will be on a stock block and heads.

January 21 update: I added my dyno sheets for guys to see were I am and why I went turbo. My lowest dyno was a bad shop, not going to talk trash but the numbers speak for themselves,(the shop that did the car is not named on the dyno sheet, if you want to know pm, CT residential only need apply). The second sheet was when they found the bad 02. I ended up making 320+ hp and 250+ TQ. Really nice numbers on a mustang. That shop is ECS in CT, I will contact them to do my Forced induction tune.

I am also still looking at the gauges, I like the Innovate and my brothers car has them as well. What do you guys think about the all in one gauge and a oil temp gauge? I think that covers the basic needs and will fit nice in a two pod side.

January 28 update: I went with the GReddy Profec and got the expansion kit for boost by gear. I am going to do a diff as well; so the way I am looking at my plan is boost by gear, go back to the OEM gearing and get better tires so I can put the power down. I want to finish up getting the electronics, all I have left to do in that area is the gauges. Looks like I will be going with oil temp/pressure and AFR. Would really like the GReddy ones but they are hard to find.

February 2 update: GReddy Profec and boost controller arrived!! The two units are a lot smaller than I thought. I need to find the English directions... they are only in Japaneses.

February 6 update: I believe i got the gauge I wanted. Gauge was a fake knock off and I got a refund for it and the sensors. I ended up getting Innvoate gauges, I got AFR and oil temp/pressure. I have boost on my Profec.

February 11 update: Picked up some DEI heat wrap and safety wire, still deciding were to get the turbo blanket from. Moving forward to say the least!

February 19 update: I have received my boost controller and map, both my gauges, heat wrap, turbo blanket and safety wire. I have on order the CJM s-1s fuel return system; I wanted the simpler design and a return due to past experience. I also am about to get the Galeforce pillar for the gauges. So it looks like clutch and diff are all that's left to look at.

February 23 update: Received my S1-s fuel kit!

March 11 update: Got my Southbend stage 3 clutch; I had the stage two... and the flywheel already but wanted the extra room for more power. I also got the rest of my parts, (turbo bag/wrap, fuel system/gauges/ clutch), I also ordered a gale force pillar but will have to wait a few. The wait is coming to a end soon!!!

May 20 update:

UPDATE!!!!

The good, I am tuned on about 8lbs, I made 405hp and 323tq on a mustang dyno.

The bad, I still have an air leak I need to find; when the revs start going higher up in the afr is going up and down and not staying steady.

The ugly, I went to a local tuner East Coast Swapper that was bad, (pm for more info I’m not here to trash anyone; or look at my google review), and I let them hold my car for about six weeks and got no tune.... I tell ya what, I wish I got that oil pump, but I had a budget.... 800 would have put me over, maybe next year

March 18 update!

I'm getting close guys, the block is assembled, heads are on and the engine is on the frame. The next step is to put on the turbo kit, then break it in; and after that it will be TUNE time!! I'm hoping to break 600 whp on a dyno jet so 500 on a mustang. I attached some more pics so everyone can see the progress.

So I made the switch to ECUTECk, and I have to say with the new tune the car seems to be running smoother and is a little more responsive. I had John Visconti tune it, and I have to say he did a good job. He got the car tuned and let me know I had a leak and let me know where to start looking. John is also sending my files over too ECUTECK and talking to Sasa. While the numbers were a little disappointing I am happy that I found a tuner that I could trust and work with to get the car were it needs to be. Now for the air leak; John recommend to start around the downstream 02. I called my installer at Exccelrate Performance and will be dropping off the car next Friday to get the leak fixed. Any advice is always welcome! I will put the dyno chart up in a day or two.

March 10th update!

I had my car for about a year and really enjoyed it. I had some kinks i needed to work out and decided to go with a bottom end build. I purchased a AAM bottom end, and will be having them do the install and tune. I hoping to hit 600 on a dyno jet!!! I choose AAM because they were close to CT, and they have a good reputation. I also didn't like the work from the CT shops. I have attached some photos of the build and look forward to seeing the end results I should have her back in about three weeks or so.

April 6 update!

Just talked to AAM, and got so preliminary numbers before I turn up the boost; she made 515 on 11 pounds of boost on a dyno jet. I'm now aiming for 600-630 at around 18 to 20 pounds of boost. I only have a 2.5 inch exhaust exiting to a y pipe, I think that will be my biggest bottle neck. I also have cats for emissions and that egg smell! What amount of boost do you guys think it will take to hit 600? I will have a bid or two and a dyno sheet in a few days!

April 10 update!

I got the preliminary numbers...... and it hit 600 on 19 pounds of boost! Unfortunate.... my boss rolled up on me on a job so that is all I know atm..... I will have more info in the A.M.

The BP kit is designed for OEM Header. Hope the stillen one is in OEM placement. The clutch and fly you have now (south bend) might be able to handle the power as is. Might want to give them a call. Can save you $$. A twin disk would be nice though. I have the e boost street EBC. Jwick has a profec. Maybe go ECUtech and skip the EBC and just get a boost gauge.

What gauges besides air/fuel,and boost do you need to install to run with this kit. I'm in the process of picking up the 1.5 version of this kit.

A lot of guys go with an oil pressure gauge too. Other than those, thats enough for the average guy IMO.

zguynate 01-17-2016 12:51 PM

OP, you can go for a twin disk, however those are more expensive than your normal single disk clutches. There are several Southbend setups that will be less expensive and will handle whatever abuse you can throw at it at those torque levels. The Z1 combo would be sufficient as well.

YzGyz 01-17-2016 01:28 PM

You dint need any gauge to run the kit really. It's just a smart thing to do. I would be afr, boost, and oil pressure if I were to get a 3rd.

Thanks guys for the responce, I had work today so that is why so slow to responed. When I talked to Sasha he said it would work. I emailed him what I had on the car and asked what I needed to get it up and running. I really enjoy the South Bend Clutch and will be looking at them again. I do want a stouter clutch and not a on off switch so I need to do a little more research. I want a BC for the boost by gear feature, i have 3.93 gears and would like to have a little less boost in first and maybe second. Will have to get her tuned and see what it feels like.

I like the innovate dual function gauges.... Depending on which south bend setup you have, you'll be fine. The stillen headers supposed to be in oem location. And that is a plus because I haven't seen anyone have headers with this kit. Or even the driveshaft upgrade. The 3.93 gears 'may or may not' be too much for the car... You decide on that one. Also look into a 1.5 way LSD and the CJM s1 fuel system upgrade. Worthy mods to have also. Sub'd for updates.

No go on Ecutek with a 2008 coupe.

I second what others are saying about the clutch. Call Joe at ZSpeed and see but you might have enough clutch now. If you are unhappy with the engagement spend the $250 and get the RJM pedal.

My opinion on minimum gauges - Boost, AFR, Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure. I like to monitor oil temperature too but that's me.

I'm not familiar enough with EBC which offer boost by gear but I believe that some of TurboSmart ones do.

I will give Joe a call in a week or two, busy week at work. I didn't buy the highest end clutch set up I think its only good for 400 hp. Will have to double check. Will the RJM pedal help if I I have a very stiff clutch?

I want to get a boost gauges, afr, and oil temp. As for the other I would like too, but I am not sure were I will put them. I see you drive a g37 as well, were did you mount your gauges and with what?

Do you guys think that a BC is even worth it, or am I just wasting my money? I really like the idea of controlled boost in the lower gears so I can hook up .
