The 370z comes with HID headlights, if you want a different color light you just need to change the bulb.

This is one of the few times I suggest getting name brand items here. Sylvania/Osram is one that I would more than likely buy. Do not buy the cheapos on Ebay. They flicker and will go out in six months.

DDMTuning.com New bulbs for the 370 (D2S) are about $15 with $6 shipping. I have ordered from them many times and have never had any issues with their products. Their shipping takes about 2 weeks though. I actually just received a new set of 10000k bulbs this week from them.
I used them on my last Z, on both mine and my wife's motorcycles, as well as on the Mustang I used to own. |

I'm not a fan of the factory yellowish-white color of the headlights. I've heard of issues though when changing the bulbs to a higher Kelvin such as 8k or 10k, is that true? Does the ballast have to be changed as well?

Yes I switched to a 8000k bulbs from jm motorsports and they work great !!! But I should got the 6000k instead, because the road would be little easier to see vs the 6k .

I went with 10000k because I was going for a certain look. I did give up some light, but it is not bad. Optimal brightness is around 5000 - 6000k. |

6k is probably the best of white light output with a blue hue to it. One day I'll get em in

So much misinformation here. Optimal light output (lumens) is achieved with OEM 4300K bulbs. Anything over that you are sacrificing output for a certain "look". If you are serious about it you should look into theretrofitsource.com for projector/lens modifications to achieve a sharper/more vibrant cutoff, which will give you the flicker of "color" on the road at different angles without changing bulbs.

I'm not sure about optimal light output but the 5k- 6k are very bright and do look way better than the stockers that we have. If you said 8k's on up I would agree with your scientific study
